Chapter Eighteen: The Terrifying Cultivation Technique!
Through the scope, Fang Mu let out a light breath, muttering to himself, “So it’s just an Iron rank... I wasted a shot of ‘Blazing Fire’...”
Half of his opponent’s head had been blown off, clearly because the bullet’s power was more than enough to kill him. This showed that the enemy was only of the Iron rank.
As for those of the Bronze rank—like the sniper he had just taken out—even when shot in the head, only a red dot appeared between the eyebrows, with no explosion at all. This indicated an extraordinary toughness of the skull, the mark of a Bronze rank evolver.
Lost in thought, Fang Mu glanced down at the G-301 in his hands and sighed.
The barrel glowed red, scorching hot and slightly warped. Though the deformation wasn’t too severe, he knew very well the weapon was ruined.
Such a degree of warping rendered accuracy impossible.
After using this sniper rifle for over three months, Fang Mu felt a pang of regret at its demise.
His gaze then shifted downward. The two melee evolvers had acted decisively; as soon as the gunshot rang out, they seemed to realize something and immediately turned to flee.
Fang Mu’s brow furrowed. The two were moving swiftly, dodging with tactical maneuvers, but if he still had a functioning rifle, he was confident he could have taken down at least one of them.
Unfortunately, with the barrel so badly deformed, accuracy was now unreliable. Firing rashly would only completely expose his position.
So, he could only watch helplessly as the two figures vanished into the mountainous terrain.
Would they leave for good?
Fang Mu pondered, deep in thought.
Suddenly, a wave of intense hunger struck him.
Startled, he immediately realized the cause.
He’d fired four shots. By his estimation, solely using ‘Blazing Fire,’ his genetic energy reserves could sustain about ten shots. But his wounded shoulder had already consumed a massive portion of his genetic energy...
“Indeed, after overexerting my genetic energy, the hunger becomes unbearable... It must be a side effect of the ‘Primal Energy Refinement Technique.’”
Fortunately, while the hunger was still intense, it was far milder than last time.
Previously, he’d nearly lost all reason...
Good thing he’d come prepared!
Without delay, he willed the chunk of Gale Tiger’s flesh from his spatial arsenal.
At once, a strange, enticing aroma wafted from the tiger’s bloodied meat and burrowed into his nose.
Saliva gushed into his mouth. Fang Mu couldn’t see it, but at that moment, a strange red gleam flashed in his eyes.
He could hold back no longer. He buried his head and took a fierce bite...
The Gale Tiger’s flesh was incredibly tough, like rawhide.
Fang Mu used all his strength, tearing off a small piece with great effort. He chewed it just a few times, unable to wait for it to be fully mashed, before swallowing it down eagerly.
He could even feel the chunk sliding down his throat into his stomach...
Yet the moment it entered his stomach, Fang Mu felt it distinctly—his stomach began to churn wildly, as if transformed into a meat grinder. The Gale Tiger meat, which even his teeth struggled to tear, was pulverized in a blink and swiftly absorbed!
A warm current flooded his body—he could sense it clearly—it was genetic energy!
“What a terrifying cultivation technique!”
Only now did Fang Mu truly feel a sense of awe.
The moment he swallowed, the genetic energy surged forth!
This showed the technique’s absorption rate was nothing short of miraculous!
Last time, the hunger had been so overwhelming that he’d fallen into a frenzy and hadn’t noticed these details.
But now, he could feel it all vividly!
“No wonder it’s a technique learned by such legendary figures!”
Fang Mu marveled, his eyes alight with excitement...
The more powerful, the better!
The more terrifying, the better!
This meant his future would be transformed by this cultivation technique!
For a moment, his heart surged, but soon the gnawing hunger snapped him back to reality... A single mouthful wasn’t nearly enough to replenish his spent genetic energy.
He stopped overthinking and began devouring the tiger flesh with abandon...
...
...
While Fang Mu feasted madly on the Gale Tiger’s meat, Li Yao had already darted out of the open ground and disappeared into the mountains.
Once he was sure there were no more gunshots, Li Yao let out a long sigh of relief.
“Zhou Yang, how’s your situation?”
“I’m fine, already out of range.”
Zhou Yang’s slightly panting voice came quickly through the earpiece.
Li Yao relaxed a little at these words.
“What do we do now?”
After a moment’s pause, Zhou Yang asked through clenched teeth.
Li Yao was silent for a moment before answering in a low voice, “Our identities have definitely been exposed, and we’re now on his radar... That’s not good news.”
The words made Zhou Yang’s heart sink.
Indeed, when they’d charged forward, the gunshots had come from the southern high ground—meaning the enemy held the vantage point and had surely seen the two running for the tiger’s corpse!
To be targeted by such a sniper... Zhou Yang doubted he’d ever sleep soundly again!
This wasn’t a game—it was a fight to the death!
They had just tried to kill him!
If the tables were turned... If someone tried to kill him, Zhou Yang was certain he’d do whatever it took to take them out first!
“But in this terrain, the other side has way too much of an advantage. What should we do?”
Zhou Yang was getting anxious. Two of their teammates had already been shot dead in quick succession; the sniper’s fearsome skill chilled him to the core.
With marksmanship like that, in this kind of terrain, the enemy was almost unstoppable.
Hearing Zhou Yang’s anxious tone, Li Yao fell into thought. After a while, he gritted his teeth and said, “No matter what, we can’t let him live... Chang Le and the others should be nearby. I’ll contact them to come... Chang Le is a Bronze rank gunfighter. If he’s here, there’s no way the enemy can escape.”
“Chang Le?”
Upon hearing the name, Zhou Yang’s eyes lit up. He knew full well that Chang Le was far more reliable than the infamous Wang Cheng.
He was one of the legion’s ace marksmen!
If he could come... Zhou Yang doubted that the man who even Wang Cheng had managed to hit would have any chance of survival.
But then he hesitated, saying, “But our mission here... For a Bronze rank gunfighter like Chang Le, the task must be important, right? Will he really come?”
Li Yao replied calmly, “I’ll try to get in touch.”
With that, he fell silent.
A moment later, Li Yao’s voice sounded again, “Chang Le is at Falling Phoenix Slope right now. He’s heading this way, but it’ll take him about five hours to get here.”
“He’s coming?”
Zhou Yang’s eyes lit up. He couldn’t help but marvel at Li Yao’s connections... Chang Le was one of the legion’s top marksmen.
But then he hesitated again, saying, “We can make sure Chang Le comes, but we can’t guarantee the other guy won’t leave... Without a way to track him, if he decides to slip away, we’ll never know...”
Li Yao thought for a moment, then turned his head, leaning against the mountainside to glance back at the distant tiger corpse.
“Then all we can do is hope he’s not willing to give up that Gale Tiger.”
Li Yao spoke in a grave tone.
