Chapter 104: Supervision

After leading Qin Hongyu and the others for two or three kilometers along the edge of the Cangxi Jungle, Fang Mu stopped and pointed ahead.
“When I saw them yesterday, they were about a kilometer ahead. Chen Ting entered the jungle from there with those two, while the Golden Heavyblade led his people away. I have no idea where they went after that.”
Qin Hongyu nodded slightly. The people behind her also craned their necks to look in that direction.
Naturally, there was no one to be seen.
“Xiran.”
Qin Hongyu suddenly spoke.
Leng Xiran, whose brows and eyes always carried a hint of languid indifference, answered softly.
Fang Mu paused and instinctively looked past the others toward Leng Xiran.
But the instant he saw her, his pupils suddenly contracted, and astonishment appeared in his eyes.
That was because Leng Xiran’s originally jet-black eyes had, at that moment, turned silver-white.
Her silver-white pupils radiated a cool, silvery brilliance. The air around her had changed in an instant, transforming from its former languor into an indescribable chill.
Her gaze extended into the distance. Before her lay an endless jungle, yet she seemed to be looking upon the site of some opportunity, as though searching for something…
What was this?
Some kind of super-vision?
Fang Mu’s eyes widened.
For a gunfighter, the most important ability was striking and killing enemies from extreme range.
But what exactly counted as extreme range?
At the Iron rank, around one kilometer was considered extreme range. At the Bronze rank, two or three kilometers qualified.
At the Silver and Gold ranks…the distance reached five or six kilometers, or even farther.
As evolvers continued to evolve, melee fighters naturally became faster and faster. Consequently, the distance defined as “extreme range” kept increasing as well.
For example, when Fang Mu had shot down the Greedy Wolf’s men from five kilometers away, hadn’t that Golden Madblade reached him in a matter of seconds?
That was already true of a Gold-rank fighter. It was easy to imagine that evolvers beyond Gold would naturally move even faster. The distance considered “extreme range” would inevitably be even greater…
Distance had never been an absolute value, but a relative one.

To a high-speed train and a bicycle…could a distance of one hundred kilometers possibly mean the same thing?
With ordinary evolution alone, however, it was difficult for one’s eyesight to capture targets at such distances. At that point, auxiliary genetic combat techniques became essential.
“Super-vision” was one such auxiliary technique.
Super-vision referred to extraordinary eyesight. It did not denote merely one particular gunfighting technique.
Just as Inferno, Armor-Piercing, Thunder, and Frost were all offensive gunfighting techniques, super-vision was likewise a general term for a whole category of similar techniques.
These abilities varied greatly, each with its own strengths and weaknesses. Some forms of super-vision granted thermal vision. Others functioned like X-rays. Still others were even more miraculous, resembling a form of optical radar.
A true gunfighter had to master at least one type of super-vision.
Only after mastering super-vision could a gunfighter truly wield extreme-range attacks—or even the ability to snipe targets beyond the visual field.
But wasn’t this an ability that gunfighters generally fused only after surpassing the Gold rank? Wasn’t Leng Xiran merely Silver-ranked?
What was going on?
To be honest, Fang Mu was stunned. This was truly beyond his expectations.
“Big Sister Leng is a gunfighter by profession and established her path very early on. By a stroke of luck, she obtained a precious gunfighting technique called Silver Eyes, so she simply fused with it directly.”
Luo Yu noticed Fang Mu’s astonishment and confusion. Without the slightest hesitation, she began explaining, giggling as she spoke.
“You’ve heard of Silver Eyes, right? It’s an exceptionally precious ability even among forms of super-vision. It can see through obstacles and directly detect fluctuations in origin energy…”
Fang Mu drew in a sharp breath.
Silver Eyes…
Of course he knew about it!
He dreamed of becoming a gunfighter. How could he not have heard of the legendary Silver Eyes?
It was unquestionably one of the top ten abilities among all forms of super-vision.
He had once specifically watched videos and read articles introducing super-vision, so he knew something of Silver Eyes’ capabilities. It was far more than simply seeing through obstacles and observing fluctuations in origin energy. In the field of dynamic vision, it displayed extraordinary power as well.
Who could have imagined that this impossibly beautiful woman, who was always so languid, possessed such a precious ability?
At that thought, Fang Mu suddenly froze again. He abruptly recalled the scene of their first meeting…
That was right. At the time, she had been deep within the forest, yet she had fired six consecutive shots and killed six Silver-ranked Madblades who had been fleeing for their lives. He had not thought much of it then, but looking back now, it was obvious that she had used Silver Eyes to lock onto them so effortlessly.
Fang Mu clicked his tongue and looked at Leng Xiran with a trace of envy.

How could he not be envious?
That was super-vision!
The dream of every gunfighter!
And he, a man who could not even get his hands on the Armor-Piercing technique…
Such a precious form of super-vision was, to him, something he could only yearn for from afar, never attain.
Fang Mu had to admit that he was feeling a little sour.
The others failed to notice the envy in Fang Mu’s eyes, and Leng Xiran paid it no attention whatsoever. She gazed ahead with her silver-white pupils. After roughly ten seconds, the silver radiance in her eyes gradually faded, restoring their original black color.
Then her brows drew together slightly before she spoke.
“There are no signs of human presence within a five-kilometer radius. I saw only a few corpses.”
The others were all taken aback. Qin Hongyu’s brows lowered slightly as she said, “Could they have already left?…In any case, let’s first go and see who those corpses belong to.”
Leng Xiran nodded noncommittally and returned to her former lazy demeanor.
The others naturally nodded as well.
Fang Mu had not intended to go any farther after escorting them this far. But after witnessing Leng Xiran’s ability and hearing what she had said, he decided to go over and take a look too.
Thus, the group continued forward.
Another dozen minutes or so later, they entered the Cangxi Jungle. At a glance, they spotted a makeshift camp.
The camp had long since been deserted. They identified it as a temporary encampment because many trees had been felled across the ground, creating an open clearing in the midst of the dense jungle.
And within that clearing lay seven corpses, all of them horribly mutilated.
Several had already decayed so badly that their original appearances could no longer be discerned. Of the remaining two that had not yet rotted away…their former features were likewise impossible to make out.
Because the scene was simply too gruesome.
