Chapter Forty
Zhou Yu and Xiao Jie exchanged a glance, both puzzled by what Nian Yu was up to, but could only follow her inside.
As soon as Nian Yu entered, tears began to stream down her cheeks.
Zhou Yu and Xiao Jie came in after her, and upon seeing Nian Yu’s tears, Zhou Yu grew flustered.
He hurried forward, gently wiping the tears from her face. “Darling, I’m sorry. I—”

This left Zhou Yu and Xiao Jie completely at a loss.
Xiao Jie asked, “If you know he’ll do as he says, why are you crying?”
Nian Yu replied, “I don’t want him to lose everything he deserves just because of what he’s promised me.”
