Chapter Twenty-Seven
“Who’s there? Come out.” Nian Yu quickly released her perception, trying to see who it was.
At this moment, Xiao Jie spoke, “Zhou Yu’s friend, the one who calls him Hai, is missing.”
“Uh, that’s me. Who are you two, and where am I?” The voice continued.
Nian Yu looked around but saw no one, so she asked, “Just come out.”
The voice sounded puzzled, “I’m right in front of you. Can’t you see me?”
Xiao Jie exclaimed, “Another starving invisible person!”
The voice asked, “What do you mean, another starving invisible person?”
“Don’t worry about that. Come outside with me. There’s food out here.” With that, Nian Yu walked out.
Xiao Jie said, “You two go ahead. I’ll stay with Zhou Yu for a bit and then join you.”
Outside, everyone was watching Wang Kui as he explored his abilities.
Nian Yu filled a bowl of rice and placed it on the table.
Wang Kui saw it and said, “Nian Yu, sister-in-law, I’m full. No need, thank you.”
“Woodenhead, focus on your abilities. We’ve found another one like you, a starving invisible person,” Nian Yu said, glancing at Wang Kui.
Wang Kui was stunned and asked, “Has Zhou Yu woken up?”
Nian Yu replied, “That villain is still sleeping. Don’t worry about him.”
Wang Kui acknowledged her and continued studying his ability.
A few minutes later, a voice declared, “So full, it’s been ages since I ate like this.” As he spoke, a human form emerged.
A man appeared before everyone.
Wang Kui looked at the man and asked, “Brother, can you turn invisible too?”
Peng Honghai replied, “I think it’s invisibility. My mind is a mess right now—I need to sort it out.”
Nian Yu grew impatient and said to Wang Kui, “Whether others can turn invisible isn’t your concern for now. Have you figured out your ability yet? I’m dying to see you and Little Yan spar.”
Wang Kui replied, “Nian Yu, sister-in-law, well, my ability isn’t useful in combat.”
Nian Yu was surprised. “Why not?”
Wang Kui scratched his head awkwardly. “I can’t really explain it. Let me show you.”
With that, Wang Kui entered his “invisible” state. Two seconds later, his form appeared about three meters from where he’d gone invisible.
Nian Yu frowned and watched him for a while. “You mean you can’t move while invisible? If you move, you become visible?”
Wang Kui answered, “That’s right. So I said my ability isn’t useful in battle.”
Nian Yu responded, “You must have other enhancements. Hurry and try sparring with Little Yan.”
She turned to Zhao Yan and said, “Little Yan, hurry up, spar with Wang Kui. I want to see who’s stronger—a scout or a sniper.”
Zhao Yan saw Nian Yu’s excitement and replied helplessly, “Nian Yu, sister-in-law, how can you judge? If it’s marksmanship, Wang Kui is definitely better. But for close combat, he’s no match. We specialize in different things.”
Wang Kui suddenly said, “Though I agree with you, I still want to try. After all, I’ve gained an ability and you haven’t. It might not be much, but I want to see how it goes.”
Zhao Yan saw Wang Kui’s eager look and didn’t refuse. “But it’s still raining outside, and the room is too small. What should we do?”
Nian Yu shot Zhao Yan a disdainful look. “If you’re scared, just say so. The room’s too small? Funny, you never mentioned that when sparring with me.”
