Chapter 150

Zhou Deyun asked, "Are we just going to leave Xiao Yu like this? His entire body is burning up; what if he gets scalded?"

Nianyu comforted him, "Uncle, it's fine. Go ahead and do whatever you need to do, we'll stay here and look after him."

Then she turned to Pan Yuxin and said, "Xinxin, go get some snow so we can bring his temperature down physically. Burning up like this is definitely not good."

Upon hearing this, Pan Yuxin nodded and hurried outside.

After comforting Zhou's father and mother for a little while longer, the others left.

Once everyone had gone, Nianyu asked Xiao Jie, "Xiao Jie, are you certain he swallowed that red crystal?"

Xiao Jie replied, "Yes. Although the symptoms differ somewhat from how you reacted when you swallowed it, I'm pretty sure."

Nianyu sighed and said, "Well, all we can do now is wait. Let's hope he manages to pull through."

Xiao Jie nodded.

......

After lunch, Liu Long announced on the playground, "Those who have signed up for the military can now begin their challenges."

Although these people were genuinely willing to join the army, they lacked any real combat capabilities. Most of them were former office workers and the like.

Suddenly, Xiao Zhi gazed in a certain direction with a look of surprise.

That direction was where Zhao Yan was stationed.

A middle-aged man was sparring with Zhao Yan, and the two were evenly matched.

Following Xiao Zhi's gaze, Liu Long was equally astonished.

The middle-aged man was actually using military-style close-quarters combat techniques, and executing them with extreme proficiency.

Xiao Zhi asked Yan Qing, "Who is that man? He handles those military combat moves remarkably well."

Yan Qing replied, "I have no idea either. We encountered him during a rescue operation a few days after the apocalypse broke out."

"According to the soldiers who carried out the rescue at the time, he was covered in blood and had collapsed on the floor of a supermarket clutching a club."

"When the soldiers went over to check on him, they found no fresh injuries—he had simply passed out."

"After bringing him back to the base and nursing him back to health, he rarely spoke and mostly just stayed in his room."

Xiao Zhi remarked, "Judging by this, he must have been a soldier in the past."

A trace of doubt flickered in Liu Long's eyes. Why would someone like that end up mingling among ordinary civilians?

At his age, under normal circumstances of military discharge, a soldier would typically have gone into business. There was no way he should have been in some small place like Qi City, let alone collapsing inside a modest convenience store.

Although suspicious, Liu Long kept his thoughts to خود (himself).

Once the trials concluded, Liu Long declared, "We will now reorganize the squads."

"Leng Yuhang, Head of the Search and Rescue Unit, commanding two teams of fifteen people each, totaling thirty-one personnel."

"Liu Hu, Head of the Combat Unit, commanding two teams of forty people each, totaling eighty-one personnel."

"Wang Hao, Head of the Sniper Unit, commanding one team, totaling eleven personnel."

"Pan Yuxin, Head of the Intelligence Unit, temporarily commanding two personnel."

"Myself, Liu Long, Chief Military Instructor, commanding four instructors, totaling five personnel."

"Yan Qing and Xiao Zhi, Deputy Ministers of the General Staff Department. The exact number of headquarters personnel will be decided by the two of them."

"Zhou Yu, General Commander of the Base."

"Liu Haishan, Aide-de-camp to the General Commander."

"Li Hu, Leader of Combat Team One, concurrently serving as bodyguard to the Combat Unit Commander."

"Wang Lingling, Leader of Search and Rescue Team One."

"Nianyu, Head of the Medical Department."

"Xiao Jie, Minister of the General Staff Department."

Liu Long then pointed to a few other individuals. After asking their names, he continued his announcements:

"Wang Kui, Leader of the Sniper Unit, concurrently serving as Yan Qing's bodyguard."

"Zhao Yan, Instructor, concurrently serving as Xiao Zhi's bodyguard."

"Niu Guo, Leader of Combat Team Two."

Niu Guo was the very same middle-aged man who had fought Zhao Yan to a standstill.

"Yang Shu, Leader of Search and Rescue Team Two."
