Chapter Ninety-Four: Chosen, the Desert God’s Voice
As the Desert God’s hand drew near the three men, their bodies began to flake away into grains of sand.
By then, all color had drained from their faces, leaving only naked terror.
Just as that hand was about to reach them, a pair of blood-red giant hands materialized out of thin air and seized the Desert God’s arm, stopping it cold.
“Oh? So you really are with them?”
The Desert God looked upward.
There, hovering above him, was a figure coiled in blood-red aura, smiling faintly.
“A vengeful spirit?”
Iron Pillar and the others stared stupidly at the figure above, at Xiao Zi. Since when had another vengeful spirit appeared here?
And how could this B-rank spirit actually hold the Desert God back?
Xiao Zi came to stand beside the Desert God, but before he could speak, the Desert God beat him to it.
“Your presence is very interesting. Are you planning to help these three humans?”
At that moment, Iron Pillar and the others turned hopeful eyes toward Xiao Zi.
A drowning man will clutch at the last straw, no matter whether it can save him. At this point, Iron Pillar and the others were no different. They had already taken Xiao Zi as their final lifeline.
In response, Xiao Zi simply spun around and looked straight at the three of them.
Then, before they could even react, he released three soul wind blades.
Because he was using Blood Fury, the blades were sheathed in a scarlet radiance.
The red light flashed.
Three heads dropped at once.
At the same time, the life essence of those three A-rank ghost handlers was drawn into Xiao Zi’s body.
With the life essence of three A-rank experts, it was enough to push three of his skills to Level 4.
After finishing all this, Xiao Zi looked back at the Desert God.
“Why should those foolish three make you lift a finger? I handled it for you.”
“What do you want?”
For some reason, faced with this mere B-rank vengeful spirit, he felt a faint pressure.
Impossible.
Was it because of that strange aura around him?
No. This spirit must possess some special quality beyond his imagination.
But what could possibly be beyond the grasp of even a god?
And when he considered that this B-rank spirit had so effortlessly killed an A-rank opponent across a rank gap, he understood that the creature before him could not be taken lightly.
“Actually, I have been standing nearby this whole time.”
“I know.” The Desert God shot him a look, the meaning plain enough: don’t try anything clever.
“I heard you were looking for a mortal representative.”
“Oh? What, you want to be my representative? As that fellow just said, divine power and the power of uncanny beings are incompatible. A spirit like you cannot serve as a representative.”
“Haha.” Xiao Zi suddenly laughed. “Of course I know that. What I mean is, I have an excellent candidate I can recommend to you.”
“And why would I use your recommendation?”
The Desert God wore a smile, but in truth he was already deliberately releasing his aura, trying to press down on Xiao Zi.
Feeling the weight of divine pressure, Xiao Zi did not dare relax for even a moment. He had already made up his mind: if the negotiation failed, he would immediately use spatial jump to flee.
Under that immense pressure, and forcing himself to steady his aura, Xiao Zi spoke.
“If I am not mistaken, you are actually sealed here, aren’t you?”
The Desert God said nothing, which amounted to an admission.
Xiao Zi could tell through the Blood Demon Eye that strange restraints surrounded this place on all sides. Even with the eye’s power, he still could not discern what those restraints truly were.
But combining them with what the other party had said before, the answer was not hard to guess: this was the limitation that bound his descent into the mortal realm. This was a small zone in which he could move about, but beyond it he could not act.
That was why Xiao Zi dared step forward to bargain with this deity.
And the bargain was highly worthwhile. If it succeeded, it would mean one more representative at his side.
Tsk. Turning one’s underling into a representative was certainly a delightful thing.
As for why a god would seal himself away, that was not hard to understand either. If every deity could roam the mortal world without restraint, then why would any need a representative at all?
The world would plunge into chaos, the gods would descend into open war, and what place would there be left for humans or uncanny beings?
Seeing the other’s reaction, Xiao Zi knew he had struck the mark, and continued.
“Two maps have already been destroyed. I do not know whether you still have another, but the resurgence of the uncanny has already gone on for so long, and yet no one has come. I suppose there are no other maps left, either?
If you do not choose a representative now, you may never get another chance. What awaits you will be an endless prison.”
“Are you threatening me?” The Desert God narrowed his eyes, sounding a little displeased.
“No, no. I am reminding you, as a power on the same side as you.” Xiao Zi’s tone remained calm.
After hearing that, the Desert God fell into thought.
Truth be told, after remaining in one place for over a thousand years, even an immortal would no longer wish to stay any longer.
In truth, he had been furious just now, but he had never intended to truly kill Iron Pillar and the others. Otherwise, they would not have survived even one exchange with him.
Why had he done all this?
Was it not to find a representative, so that he might make some movement in the mortal realm?
But now Iron Pillar and the others were dead, and the spirit before him had become the only remaining opportunity...
“What person do you want to recommend? Can he truly serve as my representative?”
Hearing this, Xiao Zi finally relaxed a little. But how should he describe Wang Hui?
“He... is a clever man.”
“Bring him here.”
“No problem at all.”
The words had scarcely fallen when Xiao Zi vanished in an instant.
The Desert God was stunned.
There had been no trace of energy fluctuation whatsoever. In a single heartbeat, his restraints had been broken, and he had not even sensed it, as though this spirit had never been here at all.
This...
That spirit truly was no simple matter. Then the person he was recommending...
Before he could think further, Xiao Zi reappeared before him, this time with a human youth beside him.
“This is the representative I am recommending to you, Wang Hui.”
Wang Hui carefully recalled what Xiao Zi had told him earlier, then immediately straightened his back.
“I, Wang Hui, admire nature most of all, revere the gods above all, despise humans, and even despise myself...”
“All right, enough.”
Even the Desert God was rendered speechless by Wang Hui’s little speech.
He said nothing more, only swept a hand through the air.
With that motion, the entire Desert Divine Temple began to twist and rotate, like some enormous magic cube.
After turning several rounds, it transformed again into a vast sea of sand, engulfing Wang Hui completely.
“Your constitution... this... how is that possible?”
At that moment, the Desert God suddenly cried out in astonishment.
“What is it?” Xiao Zi could not help but feel curious as well. What could possibly shock a proper god like this?
“It cannot be wrong. Though I do not know what kind of constitution this is, it is definitely connected to our gods. Hahaha, I never expected such an excellent human to be chosen by me!”
With that, his body began to radiate blinding light.
The brilliance shot straight into the heavens, then poured back down from the vault above, sinking into Wang Hui’s body.
