Chapter Thirty-Five: Wang Hui Wants to Scare Every Student in School to Tears

Because of what happened at the school last night, the police have already stepped in to investigate.
But it was obvious from the start that they wouldn’t uncover anything useful.
Moreover, due to a major murder case in a certain neighborhood the same night, all the exorcists had rushed there, leaving this matter unattended and ultimately ignored.
To prevent fear from spreading, the authorities resorted to their usual tactic: suppressing the news.
This method can temporarily contain the spread of panic, but it also keeps the citizens living in a pleasant illusion.
At least, that’s how the school explained it. They claimed that Teacher Peng had brought a friend to the dormitory, and that friend had ill intentions toward Jiang Yuqi, who had come for tutoring.
A struggle broke out. In the chaos, Teacher Peng was killed, and then Jiang Yuqi killed Peng’s friend. Overwhelmed by what she had done, Jiang Yuqi took her own life.
But such a story could only fool the feeble-minded; not a single student at this school believed it.
Yet the school had its own countermeasure: a new rule stating that anyone who discussed the matter would be expelled.
However...
After class, Li Dongxu sat surrounded by a group of students, gesturing animatedly as he began his account.
“There’s no need for me to spell out the relationship between Jiang Yuqi and Teacher Peng, is there? Do any of you really buy the school’s nonsense?”
Everyone, including Wang Hui, shook their heads.
Li Dongxu seemed unsurprised by this reaction. He simply nodded, his tone calm. “I’ll tell you this: I’ve actually investigated the matter myself and have found some clues.”
His words sent a ripple of shock through the group.
But the most astonished of all was Xiao Zi, the spirit residing within Wang Hui.
He was certain that nobody had witnessed his movements that night—could this kid have seen something by accident?
If he had managed to evade Xiao Zi’s notice, he couldn’t be allowed to live.
Yet, in the next moment, Xiao Zi dismissed the idea of dealing with Li Dongxu.
Li Dongxu wore a mysterious look, eyes narrowing. “Here’s what I think happened. First, Jiang Yuqi was definitely called to Teacher Peng’s dorm room by him last night. Then, shameless as he is, Peng invited a friend along. In the end, Jiang Yuqi couldn’t take it anymore, so she killed them both and then jumped to her death.”

“The reason the school told us their version is simple: they want to protect the reputation of our teachers.”
When Li Dongxu finished, the group went silent for a while, until someone voiced their doubts.
“Let’s put aside whether a girl could fight back and kill two grown men—could she even manage it if she tried?”
“What do you know? Anything’s possible. Maybe Jiang Yuqi was secretly a martial arts expert.”
Seeing Li Dongxu flounder in his boasting, Wang Hui interjected coolly.
“What if something strange killed all three of them?”
As soon as he spoke, all eyes turned to Wang Hui.
Compared to the mundane explanations of murder, they were far more intrigued by tales of the supernatural.
“What do you mean, Wang Hui? What strange thing?” a girl asked softly.
“What is it?” Wang Hui seemed lost in thought. “Roughly around last night, on my way out of the school gates, I saw a strange red figure. It felt just like...”
He trailed off, as if reluctant to continue.
“Like what? Hurry up and tell us!” Li Dongxu was the first to show his curiosity.
“The thing is, I’m afraid you won’t believe me. The whole thing is just too bizarre.”
“Come on, we’re friends. If we don’t believe you, who will?” Li Dongxu draped an arm around Wang Hui’s shoulders as he spoke. “Say it. Don’t hold back.”
“All right, I’ll say it.” Wang Hui nodded, glancing around at the group, his voice suddenly taking on a sinister tone. “I think it was a ghost—a real one, like in the stories.”
His words startled everyone. At this age, students are especially curious about ghosts and the paranormal.
But most of their exposure to such things was through creepy stories online; in real life, they’d never encountered anything supernatural.
Though this world was truly a realm of horror, and ghosts did exist, most supernatural beings had only just emerged and were typically captured before they could act more than once or twice. So for ordinary people, encountering the supernatural was still extremely rare.
Seeing the group begin to grow uneasy, Wang Hui pressed on.
“Have any of you ever heard the story about our school?”
No one spoke; they just shook their heads, adrenaline already coursing through them, fear creeping into their hearts.

The atmosphere was perfect—ideal for telling a ghost story.
“This is something I heard from a relative who studied at this school years ago.
The story takes place in the very dormitory building where Teacher Peng lived.
They say there was once a female teacher who came from the countryside, but not long after she arrived, she mysteriously vanished.
At the time, rumors were everywhere, but then, oddly, the authorities suddenly forbade anyone from discussing her or letting the police investigate.
When everyone thought the matter had blown over, a male teacher suddenly went mad, raving that he’d seen the missing woman when he went to the bathroom at night.
No one believed him—they thought he’d lost his mind and sent him to a psychiatric hospital. Not long after that, the man vanished without a trace.”
Wang Hui finished his story and glanced toward the dormitory building, his eyes full of fear.
“And then? Don’t you dare stop now!” someone urged.
Everyone stared at him eagerly, waiting for him to continue.
“After the male teacher disappeared, the authorities once again sealed off all information, which only made those who were already suspicious even more convinced that something was being covered up.
So, that very night, a group of them decided to investigate. But from that point on, strange things started happening one after another.”
Wang Hui paused again.
“For God’s sake, just tell us! If you keep us hanging any longer, I’ll strangle you,” Li Dongxu exclaimed in exasperation, standing up and pretending to throttle Wang Hui.
But unexpectedly, Wang Hui frowned. “I think I just saw a red figure flash by the dormitory building again.”
Everyone was startled by his words. A girl trembled and whimpered, “Wang Hui, don’t scare me. I still have to go home alone tonight.”
Wang Hui shook his head. “Maybe I just imagined it. I’ll go on.”
“When the group reached the dormitory building, they found the entire place eerily quiet, not a sound to be heard. But since it was midnight, they didn’t think anything of it...”
