Chapter Twenty-Two: Traces of the Untainted
Wang Hui sat on the bed, oblivious to whatever Xiao Zi was saying, counting the money ceaselessly, nodding as he did so. “Alright, alright, boss—whatever you say, I’ll do it.”
Xiao Zi regarded Wang Hui’s greedy expression without comment. After absorbing all the blood from the floor, he transformed into a soul and entered Wang Hui’s body.
Wang Hui witnessed the entire process; terrified, he touched his own body and cried out, “How did you get inside?”
“You don’t need to worry about how I entered. From now on, this is how we’ll coexist. Let’s get along.”
Get along? Wang Hui suppressed the urge to complain and, clutching the money, walked out the door.
He needed to buy a phone. Due to his family’s financial difficulties, every peer had a phone except him. Now that he had money, naturally, he wanted to buy one.
And clothes, too—he’d long coveted the branded outfits his classmates wore. Now, flush with cash, he could finally follow the trend.
Thus, Wang Hui began his wild spree, money in hand.
Xiao Zi didn’t stop him. He understood the human principle: you don’t bite the hand that feeds you. Now that Wang Hui had used his resources, he’d work harder for him in the future.
Back in the dilapidated wooden hut, black smoke began to rise from the shattered corpse of the assassin rabbit.
The smoke took the shape of a rabbit—it wasn’t truly dead.
“That was close. Seems that guy doesn’t know that after a strange being dies, a life essence remains. As long as the essence exists, it’s not real death. If I get the chance, I can start over!”
After muttering to himself, the assassin rabbit drifted toward the distance. But he hadn’t gone far before an even larger, more terrifying figure appeared before him.
This figure was shrouded in white mist, marked with many peculiar triangular symbols.
Each triangle contained boundless terror.
If an ordinary person saw this figure, they would faint—or even die of fright—on the spot!
But the assassin rabbit knew who this was.
“U...Unblemished One, sir...”
Indeed, standing before him was the Unblemished One—beaten by Fan Tianxing until he had lost his physical form.
Had the assassin rabbit met this being before encountering Xiao Zi, he would have been delighted.
But now...
He had lost his body, even his energy-storing eyes had been taken. Now, he couldn’t withstand even an F-class strange creature, let alone the A-class entity before him.
The Unblemished One didn’t respond, but instead spread the white mist, releasing an aura only an A-class strange being could emit.
The assassin rabbit understood perfectly—he was about to be absorbed!
The Unblemished One needed energy, and as a devourer, this was only natural.
Yet, the assassin rabbit grasped at hope and spoke, “I ended up like this because I met a strange fellow. He only had the aura of an E-class, but still managed to beat me, a D-class, to this state. Aren’t you interested?”
At this, the Unblemished One stopped, speaking slowly, “Continue.”
The assassin rabbit had gambled correctly.
“That guy is definitely not a ghost controller, but I don’t think he’s a strange creature either. He has the scent of a human, but also that of a strange being. He sought me out to ask about you—he seems especially interested in you…”
But before he could finish, the mist enveloped him, and in moments he was utterly absorbed, not a trace remaining.
The Unblemished One sighed contentedly, narrowing his eyes.
“Could it be the Human Spokesman?”
But then he shook his head. “Forget it. It’s none of my business. As long as I don’t provoke him, it’s fine. What I need now is strength!”
With that, he looked toward Wang Hui’s school.
“There are some interesting auras in this school.”
Then he vanished into the sky...
Meanwhile, Wang Hui, clad in designer brands and holding the latest Pineapple 14plus phone, was feeling quite dashing—like he’d reached the peak of his life.
But just then, a van stopped in front of him. Before he could react, the door opened, and a burly man dragged him inside without a word.
He tried to resist, but a blow to the head knocked him unconscious.
In the darkness, Wang Hui gazed at the blood-red figure opposite him, dazed. “What happened to me?”
Xiao Zi looked at the boy, speechless. “How old are you, and you still got kidnapped by traffickers?”
Thanks to Wang Hui’s powerful soul, Xiao Zi was miraculously able to communicate with him through dreams.
“Damn! I was kidnapped by traffickers? Don’t tell me they’ll sell me to a mountain village to be someone’s son?”
Xiao Zi nearly l
