Chapter 129: The Spirit Tamer of Great Xia
Just as Wang Hui pondered whether killing Yuan Zhikong would bring more benefits or harm, the waiter had already brought the sake. The sake came in a small bottle, a little pot of clear rice wine.
Without a word, Yuan Zhikong poured himself a cup, then tilted his head back and drank it all. Finishing it off, he laughed heartily, “I never expected to run into you while on a mission in Sakura Country, hahaha.”
It was clear that Yuan Zhikong was delighted to meet an old acquaintance in a foreign land. He was happy, but Wang Hui was not at all pleased. Still, to conceal his feelings, he poured himself a cup and downed it in one gulp.
With the double divine blessings he now possessed, he was naturally immune to the effects of alcohol, so drinking a little wouldn’t cause any trouble.
After several rounds of drinking, Yuan Zhikong was visibly more lively. “Do you know how cool my current mission is?”
Wang Hui blinked in surprise. “How cool?”
“Hmph.” Yuan Zhikong snorted coldly, then glanced disdainfully around. “This trash country is apparently running some useless experiments lately. I came here following our squad leader to investigate that experiment.”
He squinted his eyes, leaning close to Wang Hui’s ear. “I’ll tell you, this country is probably doomed soon. Investigations show that the government is secretly harboring a bizarre organism.”
“That insane?” Wang Hui widened his eyes, feigning shock.
Yuan Zhikong seemed to have expected Wang Hui’s expression, waving his hand casually. “So what? Given the current situation, cooperating with these strange beings only leads to national ruin and extinction.”
“So you’re a D-rank. Then what rank is your leader?”
“How could I tell you that? It’s classified!”
Although Yuan Zhikong was rather careless, some things he wouldn’t spill.
Wang Hui, however, had his own ideas. “Even if you don’t say, I can guess. You’re D-rank and have just joined Daxia recently, so you must be at the lowest level. If your squad’s combat power is divided into three tiers and yours is the lowest, then your leader should be B-rank, right?”
He smiled at Yuan Zhikong. “How about that? Am I right?”
Hearing Wang Hui’s words, Yuan Zhikong was stunned. “Damn, you looked dumb at school, how did you get so smart now?”
Before Wang Hui could reply, Yuan Zhikong continued to reveal, “But you got one thing wrong—my leader isn’t the strongest. Daxia values specialization, so he’s just the best at command, not the strongest in strength.”
Realizing he had said too much, he quickly waved his hand. “What’s the point of all this? It doesn’t concern us anymore. I’m just here to see the world.”
After that, he pulled Wang Hui into drinking again.
Meanwhile, Wang Hui’s mind was racing. His leader wasn’t the strongest, which meant there was at least one A-rank Daxia operative here in Sakura Country.
Honestly, an A-rank alone isn’t something to fear. Not to mention Xiao Zi, even he could handle one easily. But the problem was this Ghost Tamer was from Daxia.
Any faction would highly value an A-rank, and even the pinnacle of human civilization, Daxia, was no exception.
Though Xiao Zi never said it outright, Wang Hui knew he didn’t want to provoke the five great nations. If they clashed with the Daxia Ghost Tamers in Sakura Country or even killed them...
Well...
He dared not make any rash decision yet. He would wait for Xiao Zi to finish his business and let him decide.
With that thought, Wang Hui prepared to find an excuse to leave. After all, every extra second with them increased the risk of exposing himself.
Just as he was about to speak, he sensed five powerful presences approaching.
What was this?
Ghost Tamers from Sakura Country? Or Yuan Zhikong’s teammates?
In that brief moment of distraction, several black shadows suddenly appeared inside the small room.
Gradually, the black shapes twisted and transformed into five living men.
“Holy shit!”
This time Wang Hui wasn’t pretending; he was genuinely startled.
In his perception, these people had just been far away a moment ago—how did they suddenly appear right in front of him? And in such a strange manner.
Seeing this, Yuan Zhikong quickly reassured him, “Don’t worry, these are my teammates.”
Wang Hui feigned confidence, patting his chest. “Are you Ghost Tamers always like this?”
However, the newcomers ignored Wang Hui and looked at Yuan Zhikong. “Did you tell this guy everything about us?”
One of them eyed Wang Hui warily, as if ready to kill him at any moment.
“This is my old classmate, just an ordinary person. Telling him won’t cause any big trouble,” Yuan Zhikong explained beside him, but it was clear they didn’t buy it.
“Do you realize sometimes a little carelessness can cause mission failure? Bringing you here was the biggest mistake!”
The speaker was likely the squad leader, the highest-ranking member in the team. Wang Hui dared not test the man’s strength, afraid to reveal even the slightest aura.
Facing six Ghost Tamers from different factions, he felt like he was living a nightmare and quickly said, “I have things to do, so I’ll be going.”
But before he could take a step, someone grabbed him.
The person who held him wore a black trench coat, exuding a strong aura of death. Even without showing strength, Wang Hui felt an inexplicable pressure.
The leader looked at Wang Hui and spoke, “To ensure our presence remains secret, you’ll stay with us. Once the mission is over, we’ll release you.”
“Haha, but I really have something important,” Wang Hui forced a laugh.
“Then tell us what’s more important than humanity’s future, and maybe I’ll let you go.”
“Oh, then never mind.”
In Wang Hui’s heart, a thousand curses galloped wildly, yet all he could do was look at Yuan Zhikong bitterly.
Unexpectedly, Yuan Zhikong patted his shoulder. “I’m telling you, outside is far more dangerous than you think. Here, under our protection, at least your life is safe. Isn’t that great?”
If it weren’t for Daxia’s protection, Wang Hui would have smashed his head with a single punch.
Still, he nodded with a forced smile. “Yes, I’m really safe. I’m so happy.”
But clearly, Wang Hui was just a weak, ordinary person in the eyes of these Daxia Ghost Tamers. They didn’t take him seriously and loudly began conspiring.
The volume might be unclear to ordinary people, but Wang Hui heard everything distinctly and deduced several things.
First, this restaurant was no ordinary eatery; it was a secret Daxia base.
Second, as Yuan Zhikong said, they were here to investigate some laboratory.
Third, they had already uncovered some clues about this lab, reported it to Daxia, and were awaiting orders from higher-ups.
