Chapter 89: I Almost Feel Bad About Hitting You
Gu Changqing had been wholly absorbed in the pleasure of his ever-growing strength when Jing Zhaohu’s voice reached him, and he immediately noticed the others.
At once, he gave a savage grin. Blood surged violently through him, and agonized cries echoed from within his body. Blue veins crawled over his skin, his frame swelling a full size larger. With a stomp, the entire building caved in, dust blasting up toward the sky.
Gu Changqing then merged the strands of blood into a single crimson river that coiled around him, and charged straight at Jing Zhaohu.
“You overestimate yourself! I had planned to tolerate you a little longer and teach you a lesson after you got out. Since you’re courting death, then don’t blame me!”
Jing Zhaohu sneered and conjured great balls of flame in the air, hurling them toward Gu Changqing.
Above the battlements, the place seemed to have turned into a sea of fire. Even from dozens of meters away, it felt as though one’s hair might be singed off, and the other guards hastily retreated.
But Gu Changqing did not care in the least and plunged directly into the flames.
“He’s really asking for death!” The curly-haired woman’s eyes were filled with mockery and delight at the sight.
Jing Zhaohu’s flames burned at four thousand degrees, hot enough to melt steel, let alone a human body.
You think wrapping yourself in blood will let you endure four-thousand-degree flames? That blood will dry out in an instant!
Yet the next second, a giant fist smashed out from within the fire.
The smile on Jing Zhaohu’s face froze. The demonic eyes set into the knuckle dusters bewitched his gaze, and his mind blanked for a heartbeat. He hurriedly bit the tip of his tongue to force himself back to clarity.
But it was already too late.
Jing Zhaohu had never imagined that the other man could emerge from the flames unscathed. At such close range, how could he possibly dodge now?
Boom. Jing Zhaohu was struck in the chest by a fist, but the moment he was sent flying, Gu Changqing grabbed him with lightning speed, swung him against the battlements, and smashed huge slabs of blue-black stone bricks to powder before planting a foot on his head.
Blood gushed from Jing Zhaohu’s eyes, ears, nose, and mouth.
“Courting death? Are you talking about me, or yourself?” Gu Changqing said with a feral grin as he pressed his foot on Jing Zhaohu’s head.
The blood prison around his body flowed like a river; blue veins crawled all over him, and from within there still came those dreadful, piercing cries. He looked like a demon god.
This scene was beyond everyone among the guards. The curly-haired woman’s expression changed drastically. Her eyes turned silver in an instant, and countless invisible short arrows shot toward Gu Changqing.
This was her ability: to compress spiritual power into short arrows, send them into the enemy’s body, and make them explode.
Yet one invisible blast after another detonated on the red light around Gu Changqing’s body, even blowing apart the blood prison, while the light of the Turtle-Snake Eight-Trigram Lamp merely trembled a little.
The others also sprang into action. A burly man drew a short spear and lunged at Gu Changqing, but midair he split into four, four spears stabbing toward Gu Changqing.
At the same time, the stones of the battlements beneath Gu Changqing’s feet began to soften, swallowing Jing Zhaohu whole.
“Trying to run?” The blood river around Gu Changqing shot out more than a dozen blood-sea wasp needles, which pierced into the ground.
As for the burly man, Gu Changqing did not even look at him.
The four short spears stabbed into the red light around Gu Changqing, as if striking a wall harder than metal, and did not budge it in the slightest.
The burly man, unwilling to believe it, thrust again. But Gu Changqing instead bared a savage grin at one of the men.
He seized the short spear, drove his body straight into the man’s chest, slapped upward under his chin with one hand, then turned and kicked him flying.
“A bunch of trash, and you still dare come looking for trouble with me? What a joke!” After kicking the burly man away, Gu Changqing laughed wildly and pounced toward the curly-haired woman. You’ve been fighting me this whole time; it’s about time I got my turn, isn’t it?
Seeing Gu Changqing rush toward her like a ferocious beast, the curly-haired woman felt a flash of fear and split into four, trying to flee.
But dozens of blood-sea wasp needles flew out at once, piercing all four curly-haired women. They were all illusions.
Gu Changqing’s blood sea swept outward, and a figure appeared not far away. The woman’s eyes were silver-white as she gathered every ounce of spiritual power and fired a spirit arrow as thick as an arm, which stabbed directly into the red light around Gu Changqing.
With a deafening explosion, the woman was blasted away, yet the red light on Gu Changqing’s body merely trembled again.
Then he rushed forward, seized the curly-haired woman by the head, and covered her skull with his palm as if it were a giant fan.
The sight nearly broke the will of the guards present. Whether it was Jing Zhaohu’s flames, the burly man’s short spear, or the curly-haired woman’s explosive spirit arrows, none of them could harm Gu Changqing in the slightest.
“Gu Changqing, what exactly are you trying to do? Are you people from Bright Perch declaring war?” Luo Xiu shouted angrily.
Gu Changqing simply swung the curly-haired woman to the ground and stomped on her chest again, snapping who knew how many bones, before turning to grin savagely at the remaining few.
“What am I doing? Just joking with you. And checking your strength while I was at it…”
He shook his head. “I never expected you to be this useless. Why did the guards send the lot of you? Don’t tell me the guards are all this useless. That would really disappoint me!”
“I think you’d all be better off going home to drink milk!”
“Long legs, interested in joining us at Bright Perch? We’re all acquaintances, after all… Staying with this trash, you can only become trash yourself!”
“You’re courting death!” Another man’s eyes were bloodshot. His body swelled a full size larger before he lunged at Gu Changqing, but Gu Changqing merely lifted a hand, struck him hard across the neck, and sent him flying sideways on the spot.
“That’s it? Trash. Utter trash…” Gu Changqing looked deeply disappointed.
Luo Xiu watched Gu Changqing’s rampant arrogance and almost ground her teeth to pieces.
“How will you explain yourself once you get out?”
“Explain what? I came in all kindness to help you deal with the monsters here, and you lot came looking for trouble… then one punch and it all turned out like this.” Gu Changqing said with a grin.
“You think anyone will believe that?”
“No one believes it? Who doesn’t? Let him step forward and let me see him!” Gu Changqing said, surprised.
As soon as he finished speaking, he kicked off the ground and shot toward Luo Xiu.
But since he had been standing on the curly-haired woman’s chest, his leap drove her straight into the earth.
Luo Xiu saw it clearly. She knew she was no match for Gu Changqing; the red light around him was not something she could break.
She also did not believe Gu Changqing would kill them, so she merely met his gaze coldly.
Since awakening, she had never felt so powerless.
Gu Changqing pinched her chin and clicked his tongue. “That look of yours makes it seem like I’ve been bullying you. At this rate, I almost feel bad hitting you!”
“Get lost!” Gu Changqing sneered. “You’re so useless that I’ll take over and explore this place for you!”
The monsters in the city had already come chasing out, but Ning Ze and the others were there, blocking them all. Several hundred monsters were held outside.
And who knew how many more were still climbing down from the walls.
Gu Changqing smashed straight into the mass of monsters, the blood prison around him surging like a rushing stream. In moments, those monsters were reduced to pools of blood.
...
Luo Xiu glanced at the battlements, her expression shifting uncertainly for a moment before she appeared beside the curly-haired woman and lifted her onto her back.
Then she grabbed the burly man with the short spear and, gritting her teeth, said, “Go!”
