Chapter 101: They Should Thank Me for Giving Them the Opportunity

Gu Changqing’s gaze swept around; all the eyes behind the windows had withdrawn. Only then did he take out his phone and call Gao Wenxin.
“Minister!”
“What’s the situation now?” Gao Wenxin asked quickly.
Gu Changqing raised an eyebrow, already knowing that Gao Wenxin must have some idea.
“We were just attacked by several unidentified Awakened. They fled!” Gu Changqing said as he looked at the woman on the ground, now nothing but a puddle of blood, with even her bones completely gone, as if she had never existed.
Only a single ring remained on the ground.
Hearing this, Gao Wenxin relaxed slightly. “Anything else?”
“We need to mobilize the Public Security Bureau to surround Jiangjing Villa, especially to check the phones of residents around my place, see if anyone captured anything!”
Gu Changqing said, death was certain, but it would be better if the video wasn’t spread.
“Are you at home? Wait for me there!” Gao Wenxin hung up immediately, her expression easing a bit.
She was on the rooftop of the Public Security Bureau headquarters, facing a two to three dozen meter long slash, cutting right through the top floor.
It wasn’t Zhongming’s rooftop, so no great loss if damaged.
Not far away was Zhongming’s headquarters, with many people crowded at the windows.
Gao Wenxin had just stepped out when someone blocked her, and they fought all the way to the bureau’s rooftop, but the attackers withdrew after a brief hold.
...
Gu Changqing picked up the ring, noting many corrosion marks but it was still in decent condition.
“If someone filmed a video and sent it out... how about I send them swimming in the East Sea? The whole family can join.” Gu Changqing said aloud, his voice carrying into the villas around.
A young man holding a phone suddenly froze, unable to press any buttons.
He dared not gamble on whether they could find him.
In another room, a young girl’s eyes widened as she quickly retracted the video she had just sent; only after confirming it was not sent did she breathe a little easier.
After speaking, Gu Changqing walked back to the villa step by step, the other end of his shackles dragging on the ground, scraping loudly.
At the original wall of the villa, only broken bricks remained; his car was also caught in the damage, and the villa was completely sliced open.
Before he could react, the villa, with most of its load-bearing walls and columns broken, collapsed with a crash.
“Damn!” Gu Changqing’s face darkened — his villa!
He had barely lived there a short while before it collapsed. Shouldn’t the property management compensate?
Especially since he had dozens of clothes, over a dozen belts, dozens of shoes, and various styles of glasses inside.
Gu Changqing beckoned, and a few blood threads flew back from the rubble. He looked down at the remaining secretary; her vitality was strong—she was still alive.
He raised his hand, and a river of blood engulfed her, quickly corroding even her bones clean.
Only a necklace remained, also a spirit equipment.
Gu Changqing called the property management, then sat on the bricks, fiddling with his shackles, which were heavily corroded, some parts nearly broken.
“I thought this would be sturdy!” Gu Changqing scoffed. They boasted so much, but this is it? Give me two minutes, and the Blood Prison can corrode this clean.

After some time, Gu Changqing removed the shackles and thought to send them for repair—they might still be usable.
At the time, he had no idea how the shackles locked him. Given the Awakened’s abilities of great strength and hardening, he guessed the shackles’ power.
They probably lock both wearer and target together once secured.
They were clearly designed to counter the other’s awakening ability.
If his guess was right, these few had actually returned his spirit equipment.
After a while, Public Security Bureau personnel arrived.
“Captain Gu, what should we do?” The officer saw Gu Changqing sitting grimly on the ruined bricks.
“Check the phones, computers, and storage devices of everyone in nearby villas. See if anything was filmed that shouldn’t have been.”
Gu Changqing’s face darkened further as he surveyed the collapsed villa.
Following the officers came the property management of Jiang’an Villas.
“Mr. Gu... this...” Their faces were full of shock seeing the rubble. Only forty minutes ago, during patrol, it was intact.
“I bought this villa less than a month ago, and it just collapsed. Shouldn’t you give me an explanation?” Gu Changqing’s stern look made even the property manager sweat.
“Rebuild this villa. Before that, arrange another standalone villa for me in the community—I think the row by the river would be good. As for what to do, that’s your problem. Ultimately, it’s due to your poor work!”
“Of course, you’re just employees collecting wages. Inform your boss—if he disagrees, have him come talk to me, or I’ll visit him personally!”
“Y-Yes, we’ll report this immediately...” The manager was sweating profusely.
Gu Changqing waved them away, and Gao Wenxin appeared beside him.
“Bullying ordinary people isn’t what a strong person should do!”
“It’s giving them a chance to make amends!” Gu Changqing smiled.
“Their boss should thank me for this opportunity!”
Gao Wenxin thought for a moment, then changed the subject: “What exactly happened?”
“We were attacked by several Awakened!” Gu Changqing swung the shackles in his hand, slapping them on the ground.
“Three level-five Awakened, one level-four! Two men and two women. Minister, they attacked you right under your nose. This is a blatant slap in the face!”
“If it were me, I definitely couldn’t stand this humiliation!”
“Where are they?”
“Probably swimming in the strait!” Gu Changqing grinned, showing white teeth. Even Gao Wenxin felt a fierce aura radiate from him.
Gao Wenxin looked deeply at Gu Changqing. “Your growth rate exceeds my expectations!”
Even knowing Gu Changqing’s awakening ability was special, killing three level-five Awakened in two months was astonishing.
With enough artifacts, she suspected Gu Changqing could soon reach level seven, even eight.
“Don’t go anywhere these next two days! Stay at the bureau for now!” Gao Wenxin said.
Gu Changqing shrugged.
After twenty minutes, the officers finished searching nearby villas and deleted all previously filmed videos.

Gu Changqing and Gao Wenxin returned to the Zhongming branch. Upon entering the building, they heard the sound of strikes from the training room, and many staff were busy in the lobby.
“So dedicated?” Gu Changqing checked the time.
It was late, yet people were still here; did they never get off work?
“Captain Gu!” Others were surprised to see him back.
Gu Changqing nodded slightly and casually asked Li Yue, “What, is the Public Security Bureau in the front yard being demolished?”
He had seen the bureau’s building up ahead, with a section cracked open and a corner of the roof missing, as if sliced by a blade.
“The minister was about to go out but was stopped, then a fight broke out...” Li Yue whispered.
Gu Changqing raised an eyebrow.
He had been pondering whether this incident had anything to do with Zhongming or Yan Hao.
But then he thought it didn’t matter.
What mattered were the guards!
Several guards had been killed in the fight. He didn’t know if the opposition would relent, but he wouldn’t.
...
At the Weiying An’gang headquarters, a man in his thirties, calm and imposing, sat straight on a sofa, saying lightly:
“Your people are dead.”
This was Qi Wuyang, the leader of the An’gang region guards, a level-six lightning controller.
Though they hadn’t obtained the video, the attackers had vanished. With further inquiry, results would come.
Opposite him sat a lean man, who set down a wine glass and said:
“This person’s growth is too fast, beyond my expectations. He reached level five in two months; even you couldn’t do that.”
“I awakened at level four, took a year to reach five, three years to six. Now five years in, I’m still level six,” Qi Wuyang said calmly, merely stating facts.
“He holds something very important. We must bring him back to headquarters!” The lean man said.
“Gao Wenxin is only level five but as strong as an ordinary level six. We must work together to bring him back!”
“That’s your business, not mine!” Qi Wuyang replied calmly.
He hadn’t stooped to attacking a level-five Awakened. He had pride from his years of fame.
At his level, he wouldn’t blindly obey headquarters orders.
Even if the other surpasses him in the future, so what?
He never looked at others, only walked his own path, aiming to surpass himself.
Therefore, he neither wanted nor cared to do such things.
