Let’s meet in person.
“Brother, c-can we meet up in person?”
“Meet up for what?”
“……”
Clearly, Su Mengyao understood in a heartbeat. Though Li Jie’s mind was clouded with desire, he still retained a steadfast will not to be swindled out of his money.
Just one look at Su Mengyao’s small, glimmering eyes and he knew—this girl, truly, was as fair as she was voluptuous.
“Maybe another time. I think staying behind the screen works just fine.”
“All right then…”
Su Mengyao was clearly a little disappointed.
She felt like she had messed up somehow.
She just liked “Lord Fengxian”—he just seemed like someone who could protect her.
Li Jie exited the video chat and chatted with Guo Rong for a while about skipping class again next week. Brother Rong responded, “Old Li, what are you even saying?”
Is that really skipping class?
You’re just seeking another form of education elsewhere.
Makes sense.
After saying goodbye to Guo Rong, Li Jie felt a bit forlorn. “Sigh, that girl is really stunning! Fair-skinned, bold, and straightforward—absolutely perfect.”
Worried he might end up dreaming about her later, he quickly rewarded himself with a visit to a familiar website.
Naturally, incognito mode.
Even if he died in his sleep, he needed to stay spotless.
The next day, Li Jie wandered through a public class, just enough for his classmates to know he wasn’t a ghost.
Then he headed off to check on his own company.
Chen Pi had rented out a small office as their “Limited Creativity Co. Ltd.” headquarters. Usually, no one was there—just two workstations, with a key for Chen Pi, a key for Li Jie, and a spare.
Upon entering, he saw that the entrance was plastered with signs of various startups, all of which looked destined for failure.
“Limited Creativity Co. Ltd.” was among them.
He took a seat inside, savoring the feeling of being a boss as he spun in his chair.
Suddenly, the sensation soured—there wasn’t even a secretary. He could only purse his lips and get up, wandering around the lobby.
There were game development companies, their workstations filled with coders; marketing firms, filled with salespeople; some had soundproof rooms—one side doing telemarketing, the other live-streaming product pitches.
As he emerged, he happened to see a small live-streaming company disbanding. After cleaning out their things, they left behind a few unwanted items.
Li Jie took a look and picked up a potted plant, a mechanical height-adjustable chair, a streaming stand, and a fill light…
The most valuable find was the adjustable chair—it would cost at least eighty yuan at a warehouse store.
The others hadn’t wanted it because they weren’t short on chairs; Li Jie took it because his company only had one.
If he ever had to meet a client, surely he’d need an extra seat.
Companies folding was nothing out of the ordinary around here. During stock market crashes, there were more than a few jumpers, too.
This was supposed to be a prime location—rumor had it some big company had started here, though Li Jie had never seen it himself.
Back in his office, he tidied things up—the streaming stand fit perfectly. So, he logged onto the “Maolei” streaming platform, ordered takeout—saltwater goose and seafood fried rice—and launched a round of “League of Kings.”
After twenty minutes of streaming, his food arrived, and not a single viewer had tuned in; his only followers were himself and someone called “Will of E.”
“Come to think of it, ‘Will of E’ must be ‘Shake Shake Shake,’ right?”
“Hm…”
“Now that I think about it, this girl is kind of scary, too.”
“Whatever, who cares—as long as she’s pretty, isn’t that enough?”
So he quit the game and focused on his meal.
He had to admit, the saltwater goose was definitely made from an old bird—the meat around the neck was just right, with a distinct texture and a deep, savory flavor. Li Jie enjoyed it immensely.
The seafood fried rice was mediocre—shrimp, scallops, a bit of octopus, but too oily and lacking any real seafood taste.
Still, the portion was generous, so Li Jie was satisfied.
As he ate, his phone buzzed—a message from “Shake Shake Shake” asking to meet up in person, saying she had no classes today.
Wait a minute!
Li Jie was suddenly startled. “No way—could she have known I go to school in Canglong District even before I did?!”
“Does she know I’m at Jianye Academy of the Arts?!”
“Oh hell, could she be a yandere?!”
Sweat broke out on his forehead.
But it wasn’t cold sweat—the fried rice was just a little too hot.
“Yandere or not, as long as she’s pretty, it’s fine!”
The little head took command over the big one.
No problem!
As the boss of “Limited Creativity Co. Ltd.,” if he didn’t even have the guts to face a little danger, how could he survive in this world?!
Boss Li decided he had to be tough!
Absolutely tough!
So, after adjusting his shorts, he replied, “Okay.”
Then “Shake Shake Shake” asked where he was, sending her own location as well.
“Could this be a honey trap?”
Boss Li chickened out again.
“But what’s there to be afraid of? She’s gorgeous! So what if it’s a trap?”
Boss Li steeled himself once more!
Looking at the address, it was just an ordinary milk tea shop next to an elementary school.
Driving over in his battered secondhand car, Li Jie saw a girl standing under the parasol. She seemed to recognize his car, walked straight up, then pulled out her ID and handed it over: “Brother, I really just turned eighteen…”
