Chapter Thirty-Five: An Ambush on the Road
After Director Liu finished announcing the punishments for those people, he left with the security guards. Xiao Niu collapsed onto the ground alone, not expecting that he had provoked such a formidable figure.
“Gao Zhongjiang, I’ll go out to buy some herbal medicine and have the hospital prepare a decoction for him. As for what comes next, it will depend on how the doctors handle the surgery,” Chu Feng said, driving Gao Zhongjiang’s car to the Tongrentang pharmacy in the capital to purchase some herbs. Tongrentang boasted a century-long legacy, and the medicines it sold were of genuine quality.
Gao Zhongjiang had originally wanted to send a soldier at the gate to accompany Chu Feng, but the latter refused. After all, it was only a quick errand to buy medicine.
“The target has appeared. Wolf Squad, it’s up to you now. This time, the mission must be completed!” As Chu Feng drove away from the hospital, in an office building across the street, a man observed him through binoculars. When Chu Feng left, the man took out his phone and made a call.
Chu Feng had been in the capital for three days, but during those days, he hadn’t gone sightseeing. He’d stayed at the hospital, never wandering around the city.
Driving out of the hospital’s main gate, Chu Feng turned right onto the expressway, which would get him to Tongrentang in no time.
He drove Gao Zhongjiang’s official Audi A6 at a measured pace on the expressway, since the matter wasn’t urgent. He decided to take in the scenery along the way.
After a short while, his eyes narrowed, a cold glint flashing within them. A Ford had been tailing him for some time.
At first, he thought the car simply shared the same route, but after five or six minutes without the Ford trying to overtake him, he realized otherwise.
With his keen vigilance, Chu Feng quickly deduced that the Ford was following him.
He abruptly accelerated the Audi A6, and the Ford behind him sped up as well.
The Ford kept close, and a Volkswagen in the adjacent lane also increased speed, doggedly sticking to the Audi.
Pushing the Audi A6 to its limits, Chu Feng had the car up to 140 kilometers per hour in less than ten seconds.
Yet, the Ford and Volkswagen managed to keep up. Ordinarily, they wouldn’t be able to match the Audi’s performance, which meant both vehicles had been specially modified and were now on par with the Audi in terms of power.
The Audi wove rapidly through the traffic, but Chu Feng’s driving skills were beyond reproach. Still, the sheer number of vehicles on the expressway prevented him from fully exploiting the car’s capabilities.
He realized that escaping like this was not a solution. The best course was to shake off his pursuers and resolve the threat directly.
With this in mind, Chu Feng exited the expressway. The Ford and Volkswagen followed closely, and together, the two cars carried eight men, each armed with a long blade.
Chu Feng drove into an abandoned, spacious park, where fallen leaves covered the ground and no one came to tidy up.
After parking, he quickly climbed a tree to hide. Since he didn’t know whether these people carried firearms, he dared not confront them head-on.
He waited in the tree for less than two minutes before the Ford and Volkswagen arrived. The eight men disembarked, all dressed in black night-gear with long blades strapped to their backs, resembling the assassins of the island nation.
Two of them approached the Audi to investigate, but when they found no one inside, they began scanning the surroundings, searching for Chu Feng.
Well-hidden among thick foliage, Chu Feng remained invisible.
A minute later, the man in the center gestured forward, and the eight men advanced together, drawing their blades.
Perched in the tree, Chu Feng frowned. These men were clearly not locals; their posture, moving sideways with swords drawn, was characteristic of island nation assassins.
He stayed motionless, waiting for them to approach. They were now about seven or eight meters from his position.
If he revealed himself too soon and his thrown scalpels missed their mark, he might find himself in trouble.
The eight men advanced step by step, eyes sweeping the area, convinced Chu Feng was hiding nearby and couldn’t have gone far.
Sweat streamed down Chu Feng’s face as he crouched in the tree, but he dared not wipe it away, lest even the slightest sound betray his position to the eight below.
When they finally passed beneath his tree, Chu Feng flicked both hands, each holding two scalpels.
It was unclear where he’d concealed so many blades, but with each movement, another set seemed to appear in his grasp.
He waited for the perfect moment. Suddenly, a bead of sweat rolled off his face, dropping onto the man standing directly below.
Feeling something drip onto his face, the black-clad man instinctively looked up, only to see a cold, glinting blade descending upon him.
With a swift motion, Chu Feng hurled four scalpels. Three struck their targets, burying into the men’s arms but missing any fatal points. The fourth was knocked aside by another’s blade.
Though not killed, the three wounded men were instantly rendered incapable of fighting.
With a twist of his right wrist, Chu Feng produced two more scalpels and threw them as he leapt down from the tree. His aim was to drive back two more opponents.
Landing, he seized a blade from the ground. The five men wounded by his scalpels rushed at him, weapons raised.
Chu Feng flung two more scalpels with his left hand, even as he charged at one of the black-clad assailants, blade in hand.
The attacker dodged the scalpels with a sidestep, but as he regained his footing, he saw Chu Feng swinging the blade down at him.
