Chapter Thirty: The Police Come to Arrest Chu Feng
Zhang Dayong had no intention of clashing with the police, so he first asked who the criminal was, planning for his own people to go in and make the arrest.
“Deputy Director Sun, who is the suspect? Please tell the company commander,” Li Yanran muttered to herself, cursing her own carelessness. After arriving, she had been so focused on apprehending the suspect that she forgot to ask for the suspect’s name.
“Company Commander Zhang, the suspect is Chu Feng, the one treating Elder Chen. He just killed eight patients upstairs in one go,” Deputy Director Sun was going all out, seizing this opportunity to send Chu Feng to prison.
“Deputy Director Sun, are you joking? I may not know Chu Feng well, but judging by his medical skills, there’s no way he could have killed eight people at once,” Zhang Dayong was suspicious of Sun’s claim. With Chu Feng’s renowned medical expertise, how could he possibly have caused such deaths?
What Zhang Dayong didn’t know was that Chu Feng had done it deliberately. Those eight had committed countless heinous deeds; their existence was superfluous in this world, and it was better to send them straight to reincarnation.
“I’m not joking, Company Commander Zhang. It’s true. If you don’t believe me, you can ask the doctors downstairs,” Sun was confident, certain that Elder Chen wouldn’t protect a doctor who had killed patients.
“Wait here. You, come with me—we’ll ask Chu Feng for his side of the story first,” Zhang Dayong instructed Li Yanran to follow him to find Chu Feng.
Li Yanran followed Zhang Dayong inside, leaving Deputy Director Sun and his colleagues waiting.
Chu Feng was at the ward entrance, chatting with Old Jin and Old Wang. Elder Chen was still inside, speaking with the chief.
“Chu Feng, look at that female police officer over there—she’s really pretty, and those peaks are massive. I’d wager one hand wouldn’t even cover them,” Old Wang said lewdly, winking at Chu Feng and urging him to look behind.
“You’re over fifty and still so crude. No wonder you’ve never had a wife. Serves you right,” Chu Feng replied casually; his relationship with Old Wang was close, forged through shared life-and-death experiences.
Yet Chu Feng still glanced back. After one look, he couldn’t tear his gaze away—the female officer with Zhang Dayong was stunning.
“See? She hasn’t even walked over yet and you’re already drooling. I bet she’ll haul you off as a hooligan soon,” Old Jin teased, seeing Chu Feng staring at the beautiful policewoman.
Chu Feng didn’t respond, his eyes fixed on the officer. He had a premonition—she was here for him.
“Chu Feng, this is Police Officer Li Yanran from the Public Security Bureau. She’s here to take you to the station for questioning,” Zhang Dayong introduced Li Yanran.
Old Wang’s expression changed as he overheard; his earlier jest had come true—the officer really was here to take Chu Feng away.
“Officer Li, even if Chu Feng was staring at you, there’s no need to drag him to the station, is there?” Old Wang assumed Li Yanran was acting because Chu Feng had been watching her.
Li Yanran blushed instantly. She had noticed Chu Feng staring as she walked over. She hadn’t minded the man’s gaze, but after Zhang Dayong’s introduction, she began to size up Chu Feng.
He was handsome, and seemed refined—not at all like the doctor described by Deputy Director Sun, accused of killing eight patients.
Oh, what am I thinking? I’m here to arrest someone, not to indulge in idle thoughts.
Li Yanran shook her head, banishing those notions.
“Chu Feng, someone called in to report that you killed eight patients on the first floor. I have to treat you as a suspect and take you to the station for investigation. Come with me,” Li Yanran stepped forward, pulling out handcuffs, intending to restrain Chu Feng. Old Wang snatched the cuffs away.
“Officer Li, you must be mistaken. Chu Feng’s medical skills are exceptional; he wouldn’t kill patients. Tell me who made the report—I want to speak with them,” Old Wang didn’t reveal Chu Feng’s true identity, thinking he could resolve the matter himself without exposing their secrets.
“Sorry, until the matter is clarified, you won’t meet the informant. I must take Chu Feng away today. If you disagree, pursue it through legal channels,” Li Yanran remained resolute, even though her handcuffs had been taken by a man in his fifties.
“Old Wang, let it go. I’ll go with the officer. If Elder Chen asks, say I had something to attend to—don’t tell him the truth. His health is fragile; he can’t handle emotional upheaval,” Chu Feng didn’t want conflict between Old Wang and the beautiful officer, so he agreed to go to the station, confident he could secure his release once there.
“What’s all this crowd doing here? Zhang Dayong, what are you doing? Looking for trouble?”
At that moment, the ward door swung open and a middle-aged man in military uniform stepped out. Chu Feng turned and saw two shining stars on his shoulders.
Heavens, a Lieutenant General. A Lieutenant General visiting Elder Chen—Elder Chen must have reached a new pinnacle in weapon research.
Zhang Dayong hurried over and explained the situation. The general listened, his brows furrowing.
“Officer, please return for now. I’ll call your chief and explain,” the general decided, not allowing Li Yanran to take Chu Feng away.
“As a mid-level leader of the nation, you’re protecting a murder suspect? I suspect you got your rank through connections. I’ll report your conduct through proper channels,” Li Yanran declared boldly in front of everyone. Chu Feng, Old Wang, Old Jin, and Zhang Dayong all changed color at her words.
“Officer Li, may I have a word with you in private? There’s something I need to tell you.”
