Chapter 140: Don't Eat It, It's Poisonous
Chu Feng looked down at the girl in his arms and was suddenly seized by the feeling that he had committed a crime. Slowly, he withdrew his hand.
The moment he did, Ziyan woke up. She had already been startled awake when Chu Feng squeezed her moments earlier.
“How was the feel?” Ziyan suddenly asked.
“Not bad. Quite large,” Chu Feng replied without a thought.
The instant the words left his mouth, his whole body stiffened. There were only the two of them here, which meant that the voice he had just heard had been Ziyan’s.
Chu Feng had no time to think of anything else. He sprang to his feet and ran. He had barely taken two steps when his legs went weak, and he nearly sprawled flat on the floor.
Suddenly, a fierce gust came rushing from behind. Terrified, Chu Feng hurriedly executed a rolling dodge and tumbled aside.
“You dared touch my breasts? I think you’re tired of living!” Ziyan shouted. She drew the soft sword from her waist and slashed at him.
“Who knew you’d suddenly end up lying in my arms? Heaven knows what you were doing last night. I’m the one who got the short end of the stick!” Chu Feng shouted as he dodged her sword. The two of them had been talking the previous night and had somehow fallen asleep. Who could have expected them to wake up in such a position?
“You still dare say that? Go to hell, you lecher!” Ziyan grew even angrier and swung directly at his arm.
Chu Feng failed to dodge in time. The soft sword sliced open his arm, and blood immediately began to flow.
Seeing that he was injured, Ziyan withdrew her sword and walked over to him.
“Why didn’t you dodge?” She tore a strip from the bottom of her clothing and wrapped it around the wound on his arm.
“Who knew you’d suddenly try to kill me? At this rate, you’ll never find anyone willing to marry you.” Chu Feng replied irritably.
Ziyan slapped him directly on the wound.
“That hurts!” Chu Feng grimaced in pain.
The two of them went downstairs together, where Ziyan found some iodine and Yunnan Baiyao wound powder for him.
She carefully applied iodine to the cut, sprinkled the powder over it, and bandaged his arm. At the end, she even tied the bandage into a butterfly knot.
“I never would have guessed you knew how to tie such a beautiful bow.” Chu Feng looked at the butterfly knot on his arm and thought of his younger sister.
Ziyan said nothing. She merely rolled her eyes at him. Then the two of them went to Elder Chen’s hospital room. Chu Feng had been gone all night, and Elder Chen was certain to be worried.
“Chu Feng, what happened to you? Did you run into assassins again?” Old Wang saw the bandage on his arm and assumed that he had once more encountered an assassin and been injured.
“It’s nothing. I was bitten by a dog.”
Chu Feng had forgotten that Ziyan was standing behind him and said it casually. The moment his words fell, Ziyan slapped him on the head.
“Say that again. I didn’t hear you clearly.” She placed a hand on her waist.
Frightened, Chu Feng quickly backed away two steps to keep a safe distance between them.
“I didn’t say anything. Old Wang, did you hear me say anything just now? You didn’t, right?” Afraid that Ziyan might suddenly lose her temper, Chu Feng began playing dumb.
Watching the two of them, Old Wang suddenly pictured them quarreling after getting together. Would it end with Ziyan chasing Chu Feng around with a sword?
“Chu Feng, why hasn’t that girl Xiaofang come by these past two days? A different nurse took my blood pressure this morning.”
Elder Chen emerged from his hospital room. He had not seen Han Xuefang for the past two days. Since Chu Feng had gone to look for Han Xuefang the day before, Elder Chen asked about her.
“She and her parents have moved away. They’re no longer here, and she has already resigned from the hospital.” Chu Feng told Elder Chen that Han Xu had just left.
“Ah! If it weren’t for this old man, the two of you might have been able to get married.” Elder Chen felt deeply ashamed after hearing Chu Feng. Chu Feng had previously told him that Han Xuefang had learned his true identity.
“Please don’t blame yourself over this. It has nothing to do with you. The problem lies with me.” Chu Feng felt that Elder Chen had no responsibility for what had happened.
“If I hadn’t come here to treat you, I never would have met her. In fact, I should be thanking you.” If Chu Feng had not come to the Air Force Hospital to treat Elder Chen, he would never have met Han Xuefang, and the two of them would never have shared this chapter of their lives.
Chu Feng stepped forward and took Elder Chen’s pulse, then massaged him for a while to help circulate his blood and energy. Afterward, Elder Chen and Ziyan began playing chess, while Chu Feng went to the Chinese medicine department to prepare a medicinal decoction for him.
Once the medicine was ready, Chu Feng carried it over to Elder Chen when he had a spare moment. But no sooner had he sat down than his stomach began to growl.
“You’re hungry, aren’t you? When I didn’t see you here this morning, I assumed you had gone to eat. Hurry and take the girl to the cafeteria for a meal.”
Elder Chen had heard Chu Feng’s stomach rumbling as well, so he urged him to take Ziyan to the cafeteria.
The Air Force Hospital had its own cafeteria. In addition to serving the doctors, it also prepared nutritious meals for the patients.
Chu Feng took Ziyan there. Since it was not yet mealtime, there were very few people inside, but food was already being served. Some patients woke late, so the cafeteria provided meals throughout the day.
They first walked around and discovered that the hospital food was quite good. There was fish and meat, and the cafeteria could even prepare nourishing soups for patients.
Chu Feng filled two large bowls with rice and chose several dishes. Ziyan asked for only one bowl of rice and two small dishes. Girls her age were particularly conscious of their figures.
The two found a secluded place to sit. Chu Feng scooped up a spoonful of rice and had just raised it to his mouth when he sensed that something was wrong with it.
“Don’t eat it. The rice is poisoned.” Seeing that Ziyan was about to put the rice into her mouth, Chu Feng hurriedly snatched the spoon away.
“What happened? How could someone have poisoned the food?” A glint flashed in Ziyan’s eyes. Who would be so heartless as to commit such a vile act?
Chu Feng immediately took out his phone and called Li Zeming, telling him to send people from the health bureau at once and have the hospital food taken away for testing.
He did not explain the situation to the cafeteria staff. There were hardly any customers at the moment, and even if he told them, they would not believe him.
Chu Feng could tell that the quantity of poison in the rice was extremely small. Eating it once or twice would not cause any trouble, but anyone who continued eating it for two or three days would be poisoned.
After hearing what Chu Feng said, Li Zeming realized how serious the matter was. He quickly called the health bureau, then personally drove to the hospital.
