Chapter 118: The True Purpose

Han Xuefang had shown a fair amount of sense this time and had not revealed too many secrets. Her head nurse had also agreed to her request, saying she would go and take a look shortly.

After hanging up, Chu Feng grew even more anxious. Although Old Chen had been transferred to the military district, and only a few doctors were stationed in that special ward, Chu Feng was afraid that Jack and the others might take their anger out on those doctors and kill them all. If that happened, he would have no way to answer to Liu Shuiqing.

About twenty minutes later, Chu Feng’s phone rang again. It was Ma Han calling.

“We haven’t found any trace of Jack or the others. The doctors in the special ward are all safe as well.”

Ma Han’s report allowed Chu Feng to relax slightly. It seemed Jack was not quite as deranged as he had feared.

“I’ll reach the hospital in an hour. Report everything to the team leader and to General Gao’s people.” Chu Feng gave Ma Han his instructions before slowing the car.

Although they still could not be certain whether Jack was lying in wait somewhere, there was no longer any need to remain so tense. Old Chen was not in the ward anymore.

“Chu Feng, did you mean what you said to me at the hospital today?”

Han Xuefang had remained silent for so long because she wanted to wait for Chu Feng to speak to her first. She had not expected that his mind would be occupied entirely by what had happened at the hospital, leaving no room for thoughts of her.

“If you took it seriously, then it was true. If you took it as a joke, then it was only a joke.” Even while driving, Chu Feng did not know how to answer her question.

Han Xuefang’s innocent nature was admirable, but it would also bring her a great deal of trouble. She was simply too naïve.

She said nothing more, turning over the meaning of his words in her heart.

The reason she had insisted on going to the hospital was that she had been worried about Chu Feng’s safety. After learning why he was there, she had been unable to sleep the entire night.

She had even considered using marriage to persuade Chu Feng to leave that line of work. Unfortunately, she had no idea what he truly wanted.

After an hour and a half, Chu Feng finally returned to the Air Force Hospital. Ma Han had gone to the military district. The matter was of extraordinary importance, and he had to give General Gao a detailed report.

Chu Feng brought Han Xuefang to the seventh floor, where Ziyan was still recuperating. Although Chu Feng had healed her wounds, the pain in her body had not yet faded.

“Ziyan, are you all right? It was all my fault. I shouldn’t have been so willful.” Han Xuefang had personally witnessed Ziyan being beaten into critical condition.

“I’m fine. Your boyfriend saved my life. Jack came this time to deal with me for being a traitor.”

At first, Ziyan had not understood why she had encountered Jack. It was only while lying in the hospital that she finally pieced everything together.

Jack had appeared there because he had been waiting for her. Ziyan had betrayed the Blazing Sun, and Jack had come to purge the organization of her betrayal.

After hearing what Ziyan said, Chu Feng carefully went over everything that had happened that day.

Once he had finished, he realized that he had been led around by the nose. The original plan had clearly been for Jack to kill Ziyan, abduct Han Xuefang, and then use her to lure Chu Feng out of the hospital before bringing his men inside to assassinate Old Chen.

What had thrown Jack off was that there had been too many pedestrians at the place where he injured Ziyan. Some had already gathered around and even used their phones to call the police.

There was another factor as well: Chu Feng had secretly transferred Old Chen to the military district, and Jack’s people had received no intelligence about it.

“Once your injuries have healed, leave this place. Find somewhere safe and hide. After this is over, I’ll personally lead a team and wipe out the Blazing Sun.”

After giving it some thought, Chu Feng decided that Ziyan should leave once she had recovered. If she stayed and he still failed to catch Jack, Jack would continue sending people after her.

“I was thinking the same thing. Xuefang was dragged into this because of me. I’ll leave tomorrow or the day after.”

There was a trace of guilt in Ziyan’s voice. If she had firmly stopped Han Xuefang from going out that day, none of this might have happened.

Han Xuefang did not dare say a word. She was afraid Chu Feng was still angry with her, so she stood quietly behind him and listened to their conversation.

Before leaving, Chu Feng examined Ziyan once more. Apart from some superficial wounds, she had recovered completely, and none of her internal organs had suffered any serious damage.

Chu Feng first drove Han Xuefang home, then headed to the military district. Old Chen’s surgery should originally have been performed that day, but Chu Feng had been at the hospital the entire time, so it had been delayed.

When he arrived at the military district, Chu Feng went straight to the infirmary. Minor injuries such as temporary sprains and abrasions could be treated there.

Old Chen was in good spirits that day. General Gao was accompanying him as they drank tea and discussed weapons.

“Chu Feng, is your girlfriend all right?” The moment Old Chen saw him, he asked about Han Xuefang’s safety.

“She’s fine. She was just frightened. I’ve already taken her home.” Chu Feng recounted everything that had happened on the way.

“Tell me what you think we should do next. I believe we ought to teach the Blazing Sun a lesson. If possible, we should wipe them out entirely.”

After exchanging a few polite words with Chu Feng, General Gao asked how they should proceed.

“First, we’ll perform Old Chen’s surgery. Once he has recovered, I’ll personally lead a team and destroy the Blazing Sun. As for Jack, I’ll do my best to capture him alive. If that proves impossible, I’ll kill him.”

Chu Feng answered without the slightest hesitation. His feud with the Blazing Sun had already reached the point of no return.

He had Old Chen lie down on one of the infirmary beds and gave him a brief examination. Old Chen showed no signs of discomfort.

Because Chu Feng had been giving him medicinal soups for some time, Old Chen’s health was considerably stronger than before.

“Tomorrow, then. I’ll operate on Old Chen here and remove the shrapnel. Once it’s out, there shouldn’t be any major problems afterward.”

After thinking it over, Chu Feng decided to perform the surgery the following day and remove the shrapnel. The matter could not be delayed any longer.

“Then I’ll have someone make the preparations. The equipment and instruments I ordered from the hospital are all here; they haven’t been sent back yet.”

General Gao was delighted by Chu Feng’s words. He had been worried about Old Chen’s condition all along, since Old Chen’s status was so important. Now that there was hope for his recovery, the research into advanced weaponry would soon be completed as well.
