Chapter 108: Spare Ziyan
“First, take her back. We’ll deal with things once she regains her strength,” Chu Feng decided after a moment’s thought. He chose not to kill Ziyan. Although she had kidnapped Han Xuefeng, that one warning she shouted had saved Chu Feng’s life.
Chu Feng pulled out his phone and called Li Zeming, asking him to send people over to handle the corpse of the Demon Wolf first.
Within minutes, police sirens sounded outside the factory. It seemed Li Zeming had personally contacted the local police, which explained their swift arrival.
When the officers entered, sharp-eyed Chu Feng spotted Li Yanran leading the team. It appeared she was in charge this time.
“Officer Li, long time no see,” Chu Feng greeted her with a bright smile as he approached.
Han Xuefang merely glanced at Li Yanran without a word, clearly harboring a poor impression of the female officer.
“You killed this person? Why is it that every time I run into you, trouble follows? Were you a jinx in a past life? Every encounter with you ends in disaster,” Li Yanran crouched beside the Demon Wolf’s body, inspecting the wound. The wolf’s artery had been severed by a sharp blade, and he bled out.
“I had no choice. Those people just kept targeting me blindly,” Chu Feng shrugged innocently. If someone came to kill him, he had to defend himself.
“Not bad... In just a few days, you’ve found yourself another delinquent girl. Next time, are you going to pick a celebrity or an internet influencer?” Li Yanran suddenly noticed Ziyan standing next to Chu Feng and assumed Chu Feng had charmed her as well.
“Well, I can’t help it. I’m naturally handsome; women find me irresistible,” Chu Feng struck a narcissistic pose, purposely not revealing Ziyan’s true identity to Li Yanran.
If Li Yanran learned who Ziyan really was, she would undoubtedly insist on taking her to the Public Security Bureau for thorough interrogation.
“Can you lend me a car? I need to take my girlfriend home first,” Chu Feng requested. He had called the police partly to have them collect the Demon Wolf’s body, but also to borrow their patrol car.
“Why should I lend it to you? We came with two cars, and all five of us are already seated. You can either walk back or take a taxi,” Li Yanran deliberately made things difficult. Although she’d brought two cars, only five people had come. She was waiting for Chu Feng to ask her nicely.
“Should I call Secretary Li Zeming again and have him talk to you?” Chu Feng had no desire to argue and took out his phone to call Li Zeming.
“No need.” Hearing this, Li Yanran immediately softened and tossed him the car keys. “Just remember to return the car to us tomorrow.”
Chu Feng caught the keys, told Han Xuefang to watch over Ziyan, and the three of them left in the police car.
“Why did you save me? My original plan was to kill your boyfriend,” Ziyan asked once they were inside the car, puzzled by Han Xuefang’s plea on her behalf.
“Because your shout saved my boyfriend’s life just now. So you’re even now—neither owes the other,” Han Xuefang replied casually without elaborating.
“Thank you,” Ziyan said awkwardly, clearly not used to expressing genuine gratitude.
Chu Feng first drove Han Xuefang home. After she messaged him from upstairs, he returned to the hospital.
“Are you going to hand me over to the Huaxia government? If so, you might as well kill me now. I don’t want to face those hypocrites,” Ziyan said from the back seat, suspecting that Chu Feng planned to turn her in.
“First, come with me to the hospital. I’ll remove the drugs from your body before we decide,” Chu Feng replied thoughtfully. He was still considering how to handle the female assassin, who had indeed saved his life moments ago.
If she hadn’t shouted that warning, the bullet from the Demon Wolf’s gun would have struck Chu Feng in the back.
Hearing this, Ziyan sighed softly and remained silent, resting in the back.
At the hospital, Chu Feng intended to carry Ziyan to the second floor, but her legs were too weak to walk. With no other option, he lifted her in a princess carry.
Her head rested against his chest; she could even hear the steady beat of his heart. Never before had a man held her like this.
The thought flushed her cheeks, though the dim hospital lighting kept Chu Feng from noticing.
Reaching the second floor, Chu Feng placed her in an empty ward. He pretended to massage her while secretly slipping his watch onto her waist, inputting some life-enhancing energy.
After a while, Ziyan felt her hand move and a flicker of strength return. She was stunned; she hadn’t expected such a small gesture to restore some of her power.
“You’ll sleep here tonight. I’ll remove the bullet from your leg tomorrow. Rest now,” Chu Feng said, noticing her improvement. He left her guarded by two soldiers.
He couldn’t fully trust Ziyan yet, especially after her repeated attempts on his life.
Returning to Old Chen’s room, Chu Feng found him sitting on the sofa reading. Recently, Old Chen had developed an interest in modern Huaxia history.
“Why are you back so late? Xiao Li called me earlier and said you ran into trouble. Tell me, what happened?” Old Chen asked, having stayed up waiting.
Chu Feng recounted everything, including the matter with Ziyan.
“You need to make things clear with Xiaofang. If it doesn’t work out, you two should sever ties. Once you return to Shanghai, who will be responsible for her safety?” Old Chen was surprised that the very issue they’d discussed yesterday had already arisen. But there was little he could do. Han Xuefang was just an ordinary girl; he couldn’t assign soldiers to protect her indefinitely.
“And what about the girl I brought back? Should I release her or hand her over to the National Security Bureau?” Chu Feng sought Old Chen’s advice on Ziyan’s fate.
“Since she saved your life, let her go. Tell her to leave the Scorching Sun organization and to do fewer evil deeds in the future,” Old Chen said firmly.
