Chapter 106: Visitors from the Jia Family Arrive
The patient smiled and said, “You bear a striking resemblance to an old friend of mine. I’m just wondering, could you be his son?”
Gu Xiangnan’s heart suddenly skipped a beat. His expression changed abruptly.
“Who is your friend? Could you introduce him to me?”
Could it be that his father was still alive?
The patient nodded in agreement. “Sure, once I’ve recovered a bit, I’ll invite you to my home so we can discuss this in detail. How does that sound?”
Gu Xiangnan had no patience for that.
“May I ask how you’re called?”
“You can call me Uncle Fu.”
“Uncle Fu, is there any way you can give me his contact information now? I could reach out to him directly.”
“Unfortunately, I can’t get in touch with him either.”
Hearing this, Gu Xiangnan’s heart sank. But then he thought, at least he could learn some information about his father. With that, he could investigate further.
He took down Uncle Fu’s contact info and was about to leave when Yang Dianfeng called.
“Little brother, the Jia family has sent people.”
“So soon?” Gu Xiangnan frowned.
The Jia family was indeed formidable. They had just eliminated the One-Eyed Dragon, and now they were already targeting them.
“I’m at the Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital. Wait for me at Oscar Bar. I’ll be there shortly.”
Gu Xiangnan planned to discuss strategies with Yang Dianfeng. The bar wasn’t far, and he arrived quickly.
They had formed a habit of meeting at Oscar Bar to discuss matters. It had become their base and a convenient meeting spot.
“Come in, little brother.”
Yang Dianfeng was already waiting in his office.
“What’s going on?” Gu Xiangnan asked directly.
Yang Dianfeng looked troubled. “My backer in the provincial city just sent a message. The patriarch has ordered a thorough investigation into the One-Eyed Dragon’s disappearance.”
“They’ll probably be here soon.”
Yang Dianfeng, as the underground king, had his own connections. But his backer and the Jia family both operated within the provincial city—it was a small world, where everyone knew everyone.
His backer couldn’t openly show support for Yang Dianfeng, so this matter was left to him alone.
Just as he finished speaking, a subordinate came in to report, “Master Feng, the Jia family people from the provincial city have arrived.”
Yang Dianfeng was startled. He had just hung up with his backer and immediately called Gu Xiangnan.
Gu Xiangnan had barely settled in when the Jia family arrived? That was incredibly fast.
He wasn’t quite prepared and felt a twinge of panic.
Gu Xiangnan reassured him, “It’s okay. Let’s hear what they have to say first. If worse comes to worst, I’ve got your back.”
Yang Dianfeng straightened his clothes, and the subordinate led the visitors in.
In walked a tall young man, over six feet, dressed in designer clothes. He looked a few years older than Gu Xiangnan and wore a cocky, defiant smile.
Without waiting to be invited, he plopped down on the sofa, pulled out a cigarette, lit it, and took a drag. Then he sized up Yang Dianfeng and Gu Xiangnan.
“So you’re Yang Dianfeng?” he asked, glancing sideways.
“Yes. And may I ask who you are from the Jia family?”
“I’m Jia Siqi, eldest son of the Third Master of the Jia family.”
Jia Siqi smiled arrogantly, flicking ash onto the floor with a reckless air.
Yang Dianfeng was secretly surprised.
The Jia family had three brothers: the eldest, Jia Mingxuan, was the clan head, nicknamed ‘The Patriarch.’ Then there were the Second and Third Masters.
This young man was the eldest son of the Third Master.
For him to be sent personally was unusual. Generally, such prominent families never send direct heirs for errands—too risky.
That the Third Master’s eldest son was sent showed how seriously the Jia family regarded Jiangning City.
It also showed they didn’t take Yang Dianfeng seriously. Even the underground king of Jiangning dared not provoke the Jia family.
They were supremely confident.
“Ah, so you’re the young master of the Jia family. My apologies,” Yang Dianfeng said, fully aware of the stakes.
This was the real heir. Offending him would give the Jia family cause to wipe out Yang Dianfeng’s entire operation.
“My time is limited,” Jia Siqi said. “I just happened to be passing through Jiangning City, so I won’t waste words.”
“You killed the One-Eyed Dragon. The Jia family is very displeased. When you beat a dog, you must look at its master. Do you intend to stand against the Jia family?”
“My purpose here is simple.”
“First, to apprehend the murderer. Yang Dianfeng, you’re coming with me.”
“Second, Gu Xiangnan, you’re coming too.”
Yang Dianfeng shook his head.
“You can take me, but this doesn’t concern Gu Xiangnan. Don’t take him.”
Gu Xiangnan was standing up for him, and he couldn’t let him get involved.
Jia Siqi stood and approached Yang Dianfeng, slapping his face arrogantly.
“That’s not up to you. Dare to resist? You’ll be killed without mercy!”
Yang Dianfeng tried to negotiate again.
“Put all the blame on me. Don’t take him.”
Jia Siqi sneered.
“Who do you think you are? You dare bargain with me?”
Then he pressed his cigarette butt into Yang Dianfeng’s hand.
A faint sizzle sounded, and the smell of burning flesh filled the air.
Yang Dianfeng gritted his teeth, enduring the pain without a sound.
He could retaliate easily, but if he did, he’d have declared open war on the Jia family.
“Ha ha ha! What a tough guy!” Jia Siqi laughed wickedly, pressing harder.
Suddenly, Gu Xiangnan flew forward, delivering a kick straight to Jia Siqi’s face.
“Damn you! Look at you acting all high and mighty!”
Jia Siqi fell to the ground, cursing.
“Who the hell are you? Are you looking to die?”
“Smack!”
Gu Xiangnan slapped him hard.
“I’m your grandfather!”
One slap, and Jia Siqi’s face swelled.
Covering his face, he pointed at Gu Xiangnan.
“So you’re Gu Xiangnan? Are you looking for death?”
“Smack!”
The other side of his face was slapped.
“Do you know who I am? I’m from the Jia family—”
“Smack!”
Another slap interrupted him.
“I’m going back to report this!”
Gu Xiangnan lifted his hand, and Jia Siqi trembled with fear.
Yang Dianfeng was stunned.
Was his little brother really that formidable? Even he, the underground king, dared not provoke the Jia family, yet now Gu Xiangnan was slapping them around.
Grabbing Jia Siqi by the collar, Gu Xiangnan pulled him to his feet.
“Good. Hurry back and tell them Gu Xiangnan is waiting for them in Jiangning City.”
He was openly provoking conflict.
Then, without hesitation, Gu Xiangnan tossed Jia Siqi out the second-floor window.
“Remember this. Make sure you take my words back with you!”
Jia Siqi lay on the ground, wincing in pain.
Yang Dianfeng was deeply moved, realizing Gu Xiangnan did this deliberately—to take the hatred upon himself.
Grateful but also worried, he said, “Little brother, the Jia family will definitely come after you.”
Gu Xiangnan reassured him, “Brother-in-law, don’t worry about me. They can’t hurt me.”
“Besides, I live alone in a villa. Even if they come after me, no one else will get hurt.”
Even Yang Dianfeng’s men standing nearby were touched by his words.
How many bosses cared so much about their men?
Yang Dianfeng shouted, “Bring the best cigars and red wine for Brother Nan!”
His men hurried off to prepare.
“Little brother, I truly don’t know how to thank you enough. This glass is for you!” Yang Dianfeng said, eyes red with emotion.
Just as Gu Xiangnan was about to comfort him, Zhang Baolian called.
