Chapter 90: I Must Be Right Too
“I sent it to the wrong person.”
In front of Ye Shen, Ye Qian was rarely this obedient.
Seeing that the two of them were about to start fighting again, Ye Yaoyao stepped in at once.
She looped her arm through Ye Shen’s and smiled up at him. “Big Brother, Second Brother didn’t do it on purpose. We’re both fine now, and that’s what matters, isn’t it?”
“And I didn’t charge in all by myself either. I called for help.”
As she finished, Ye Yaoyao winked at Ye Shen.
The Ye family’s indulgence toward Ye Yaoyao was carved deep into their bones. With just that little act of coquetry, Ye Shen’s temper instantly cooled.
He gave a soft hum and reached out to pat her head. “Fine. For your sake, we’ll let him off this time.”
“Thank you, Big Brother.”
Ye Yaoyao glanced at Ye Qian, then sent Ye Shen away. “Big Brother, I’ll go to the company less these next few days. I’ll stay and take care of Second Brother.”
“You’ll have to work hard and keep the company running for a while.”
“Alright.”
Ye Shen nodded, then turned to give Ye Qian a long, hard look.
This brat had committed such an outrageous act, and yet he still got to have his sister taking care of him.
Ye Shen felt unfairly put upon, but when he thought of how badly Ye Qian was injured, he couldn’t be bothered to argue.
Only Ye Yaoyao and Ye Qian remained in the room.
Ye Yaoyao sat by the bedside and began peeling an apple for Ye Qian.
“Yaoyao, tell me. How did you know something happened to me, how did you arrive in time, and how are you so skilled?” Ye Qian had already shed his carefree facade.
Earlier, he had even wondered whether those past incidents had anything to do with Yaoyao.
Now it looked as though there was probably no escaping her involvement.
Damn it.
The sight of Ye Yaoyao kicking into the crowd so deftly had even made Ye Qian jealous.
“Someone told me.”
“Who? Shen Yan?”
Ye Qian could only think of Shen Yan. The moment that name came up, his expression changed. “But the way he looked at me was pure jealousy. He clearly sees me as a rival in love.”
If a rival in love had gotten into trouble, Shen Yan ought to have been hoping he died. How could he possibly tip off Ye Yaoyao?
Ye Yaoyao had originally had no intention of making excuses for Ye Qian, but now that he had already come up with one for her, she simply followed his lead.
“That’s right, it was him.”
Ye Yaoyao nodded, silently praising herself in her mind. “He probably saw at the family dinner that Mom was sincerely protecting me, so he told me your whereabouts.”
When she finished, Ye Yaoyao glanced at Ye Qian, then prayed inwardly.
Please don’t keep asking about my fighting skills.
Unfortunately, her wish was not granted.
Ye Qian looked straight at her and asked the next question. “Then what about your skills? What’s that about?”
Taking on a whole group by herself was not something one could learn in a short time.
At that moment, Ye Qian found the sister before him unrecognizably strange.
He and Ye Shen had always worked hard to shield her, wanting nothing more than for her to grow up carefree, unharmed, and safe.
Yet now there were signs that Ye Yaoyao had not only broken free of their protection, but had carved out a world of her own?
It should have been a good thing that Ye Yaoyao had the ability to protect herself.
And yet Ye Qian felt a surge of bitterness.
If they had been capable enough, she would never have needed to become like this.
Ye Yaoyao knew how hard the Ye family had worked all these years, which was why she had always pretended to be a little white rabbit.
She finished peeling the apple and handed it over. “Come on, Second Brother, have an apple first.”
Questions were questions, but a sister’s apple still had to be eaten.
Ye Qian took it and bit into it. “You still haven’t answered my question.”
Ye Yaoyao forced a smile. All right, then. She couldn’t dodge this one.
“I learned it while I was abroad before.”
Ye Yaoyao said honestly, “There was a friend among the people who came today. We learned together.”
“The one behind Shen Yan?”
“Yes.”
Ye Yaoyao used a tissue to wipe Ye Qian’s hands. “At the time, I just thought I had free time and that it wouldn’t hurt to learn another skill for myself, so I followed along.”
As she spoke, Ye Yaoyao revealed a harmless smile. “I didn’t expect to have such a decent talent. By the end, my results were pretty good.”
Pretty good?
Ye Qian was nearly shocked enough for his jaw to drop.
The way Ye Yaoyao had taken on so many by herself today was not merely pretty good. It was spectacular.
If he fought her, he was afraid it would end in a draw.
“How long did you train for?” Ye Qian took another bite of the apple and asked with deliberate indifference.
It had taken him nearly five years of relentless effort to reach this level.
His sister had studied abroad for four years.
Four years...
Still, that made sense. She was young, after all, and would learn things faster. Mastering it in four years was normal enough.
Ye Yaoyao lowered her head and slowly held up one finger.
“One year.”
“One year?”
Ye Qian was stunned. He lost control of his movement and tugged at his wound. The pain sent him leaning back again. “You became this good in just one year?”
How could the gap between people be even greater than the gap between humans and pigs?
Ye Yaoyao was busy with school, so she could only have learned this in her spare time.
But Ye Qian had devoted himself to this path every single day, studying with no regard for food or sleep.
After all that time, the result was only a draw?
Ye Qian was... unbalanced!
Fearing he might report this to Ye Shen and Liu Ruyan, Ye Yaoyao immediately went soft. “Second Brother, I won’t take such risks again.”
“Don’t tell Big Brother or Mom about this, okay? I don’t want them worrying about me.”
Learning martial arts was a grueling process.
Ye Yaoyao had suffered a great deal, and even now she thought she had endured quite a lot.
But if Big Brother and Mom found out, they would be heartbroken.
At that, Ye Qian arched a brow. “You want me to keep this from them?”
Ye Yaoyao nodded repeatedly, looking at Ye Qian with bright, pleading eyes. “Yes, Second Brother. Will you?”
Her matters were major matters in the Ye family.
Ye Yaoyao couldn’t tell how Ye Qian would decide.
Of course Ye Qian was willing to keep it secret. After all, it would become a little secret shared only between him and Ye Yaoyao.
But this really was dangerous. Ye Yaoyao had secretly done something like this abroad, and he needed her to understand just how serious it was.
“If you want me to keep it quiet, that’s fine. But there has to be a condition.”
“Huh? Second Brother, I thought our relationship was close enough that we wouldn’t need all these formalities. Looks like I was the one overthinking it.”
Ye Yaoyao let out a deliberately wounded sigh, and that one sigh nearly made Ye Qian lose his composure.
This was the Ye family’s little princess. What was he doing?
When Ye Yaoyao still did not get his concession, she had no choice but to continue. “Alright then, what is it?”
“From now on, whenever Big Brother and I disagree, no matter what we’re arguing about, you have to stand on my side.”
Ye Qian seized the opportunity. “Even if I’m wrong, in your eyes, I have to be right.”
What could be better than learning his sister’s secret and then using it to make her stand unconditionally on his side?
Nothing.
At that, Ye Yaoyao blinked, then burst out laughing.
She should have guessed it. With Second Brother’s level of ambition, he would never ask for anything more complicated.
“That won’t do, Second Brother. Most of the time you’re not as steady as Big Brother, and some things still have to be left to him.”
