Chapter 34: Unable to Capture Even a Tenth of Its Beauty
Shen Yan watched her figure as she walked away, a smile unconsciously appearing at the corner of his lips. The owner of Third Y could casually tame a wild horse. Just what other secrets did this woman hold?
When Ye Yaoyao returned, Yu Wanquing was standing there, craning her neck with a worried expression. The moment she saw Ye Yaoyao, her face lit up with a smile. Beside her, Ji Yanxi wanted to speak to her, but was entirely ignored.
"Yaoyao, you’re finally back—you scared me to death..." Yu Wanquing hurried over with small steps, her concern written all over her face.
"I'm fine, trust me."
"Exactly, I told you Miss Ye would be alright," Ji Yanxi interjected at once. "Besides, wasn’t Yan there too? He would keep her safe."
Yu Wanquing ignored Ji Yanxi completely. It was obvious now that Ji Yanxi had feelings for her.
Ye Yaoyao shot him a glare, genuinely believing he wasn’t worthy of Yu Wanquing. Besides, rumors about him and Yu Qingqing were everywhere; if Yu Wanquing got involved now, she would only become the subject of gossip.
With that in mind, Ye Yaoyao pulled Yu Wanquing aside to avoid Ji Yanxi.
Ji Yanxi tried to follow, but Shen Yan blocked his way.
"Hey, Yan, don’t get in my way."
"Can’t you read the mood? She has no intention of talking to you." Shen Yan, rarely so verbose, added, "You may not care what people think, but girls still have to consider their reputation."
Clearly, with Ji Yanxi’s mind, he didn’t understand Shen Yan’s words.
"Yan, what do you mean?"
Yu Qingqing lagged behind, seething with resentment. Why? She had gone so far as to use her own body, yet the moment Yu Wanquing appeared, Ji Yanxi’s eyes were only for her? Both daughters of the Yu family, but treated so differently? Would people only appreciate her if Yu Wanquing fell into scandal?
...
Yu Wanquing gave Ye Yaoyao a thorough once-over before finally relaxing when she was sure she was unhurt.
"Yaoyao, that wild horse—no trainer could handle it..." Yu Wanquing linked arms with her. "Tell me, have you been secretly learning new skills behind my back?"
"No, I just happened to know that horse."
"You know that horse?" Yu Wanquing was astonished. "Sure, all creatures have spirits, but isn’t this a bit much?"
Ye Yaoyao explained how she had gone to the countryside on Shen Yan’s behalf for a project.
"That Shen Yan is truly heartless, sending a girl to such a remote place for business, with no thought for your safety," Yu Wanquing exclaimed, her heart aching.
Ye Yaoyao was stunned. She hadn’t even considered that. At the time, she had been entirely focused on Shen Yan, wanting to help him, never thinking of herself.
She shook her head. "It’s all in the past."
"What do you think of Ji Yanxi?" Ye Yaoyao probed.
"Why do you ask? He’s Yu Qingqing’s fiancé, it’s not my place to have feelings about him." Though things were more open abroad, Yu Wanquing was a woman of principle; if something was not hers, she wouldn’t even look at it.
"I think he’s interested in you."
"Pfft, plenty of people are interested in me. Am I supposed to entertain them all?" Yu Wanquing raised an eyebrow. After all, she had countless suitors abroad and had seen plenty of outstanding men—she would never be taken with someone like Ji Yanxi.
"True enough," Ye Yaoyao agreed. "But you’d better watch out for your sister—I doubt she’ll behave herself."
"Don’t worry."
A group of them went for lunch together, since they were all out for fun. They sat arranged by the order from truth or dare. Yu Wanquing served Ye Yaoyao food.
Ji Yanxi seized the opportunity to show his attentiveness. "Wanquing, this is delicious—try it!"
Yu Wanquing’s face turned cold. "Young Master Ji, did you mistake me for someone else? Your fiancée is over there."
"What fiancée? She’s just a rumored girlfriend," Ji Yanxi took the chance to explain. "I was young and foolish before, but I won’t make the same mistakes again."
His words humiliated Yu Qingqing, who bit her lip, eyes reddening with the urge to cry.
Yu Wanquing grew annoyed, her impression of Ji Yanxi deteriorating further.
"Wrong guarantee, Young Master Ji. Do you really think your words make you look devoted?" Her tone sharpened, "You’re just a fickle creature who thinks with your lower half."
She tossed aside the meat Ji Yanxi had placed on her plate. "Stay away from me, I don’t want to get tainted."
With that, she pushed her chair closer to Ye Yaoyao, putting more distance between herself and Ji Yanxi.
Yet Ji Yanxi, shameless as he was, only became more infatuated with Wanquing. He liked women with spirit.
Ye Yaoyao served Yu Wanquing food. "Ignore him, let’s just eat."
"Alright." Yu Wanquing smiled at her, the contrast in her demeanor so stark that anyone watching might suspect she liked women.
Shen Yan served Ye Yaoyao food as well, but she kept her face blank and tossed it aside. With the two brothers behaving this way, both Ye Yaoyao and Yu Wanquing lost their appetites. After a few bites, they put down their chopsticks and decided to go hiking.
It was five or six in the evening; the sun was about to set, and if they hurried to the summit, they could catch the sunset. Both women were accustomed to physical exercise and had energy to spare.
"Yaoyao, come here! I’ll take your picture!"
"Okay." Ye Yaoyao went over, stood on tiptoe, and made a peace sign. Yu Wanquing pressed the shutter, capturing the youthful moment forever.
"Try a few more poses," Yu Wanquing urged as she snapped away, unable to stop herself from exclaiming, "My goodness, whose best friend is this? How can someone be so beautiful? Every pose is like a magazine cover!"
Ye Yaoyao burst into laughter, her smile bringing even more life to the photos.
Shen Yan, not far off, watched, unable to tear his eyes away from her smile. Previously, he had thought her dull and uninteresting. Now he saw that was far from the truth. Everyone has a lively and fascinating side, only revealed before certain people.
Bai Moxian, observing the scene, found it beautiful and snapped a photo with his phone.
After a while, Yu Wanquing grumbled, "What’s wrong? Is it my equipment? Why can’t I capture even a tenth of your beauty?"
"Let me see," Ye Yaoyao leaned in to look. Every photo was perfectly composed, and she was quite pleased.
"They're great, aren’t they?"
"No, not good enough. They don't show even a fraction of your beauty," Yu Wanquing insisted. "The photos are lovely, but you’re even more stunning in person! I have to get better equipment—this must be the camera’s fault."
"Alright, the photos are already wonderful. Now, your turn—stand there and I’ll take some for you," Ye Yaoyao said, taking the camera.
"Alright," Yu Wanquing replied, moving into position.
