No matter how skilled someone is, they’re still afraid of madmen. It had been a long time since she’d raced cars, but thanks to Qin Miao, Ye Yaoyao was finally able to let loose.

Horns blared all the way, crashes resounded behind her, and Ye Yaoyao sped toward the deserted outskirts to avoid disrupting city traffic. But fate intervened—her car ran out of fuel.

She abandoned the vehicle and fled into the woods. Qin Miao’s face was smeared with blood, her smile twisted and feral as she crashed into tree after tree. Ye Yaoyao had to dodge both the car and the falling trunks.

Now it was a contest of Ye Yaoyao’s stamina against Qin Miao’s sheer willpower.

Eventually, Qin Miao’s car also sputtered to a halt. Ye Yaoyao, gasping for breath, found herself atop a small hillside, collapsed on the ground. Qin Miao stepped out with a knife, approaching her with relentless intent.

“Ye Yaoyao, you ruined me! Because of you, I’ve become so pitiful!” Qin Miao screamed, swinging the knife at her. “If not for you, Ah Yan wouldn’t have abandoned me, I wouldn’t have been humiliated, I wouldn’t be disgraced!”

“Ah Yan left me, I lost my job, you forced me to the brink of death!”

Ye Yaoyao dodged easily, while Qin Miao, weakened by her injuries, moved sluggishly.

“Qin Miao, you brought this upon yourself. You tried to harm me, and now you’re suffering the consequences.”

Ye Yaoyao had no time to soothe Qin Miao’s emotions; she was furious herself.

“It’s you!” Qin Miao hunched over, blood loss clouding her mind. “If not for you, none of this would have happened. Once you’re dead, everything will return to the way it was.”

Ye Yaoyao gazed at the irredeemable Qin Miao and shook her head in resignation. She resolved to send Qin Miao to prison.

“I’ll kill you!” Qin Miao shrieked, slashing at Ye Yaoyao several times, but when she couldn’t land a blow, she panicked and tried to push Ye Yaoyao down the hill.

Ye Yaoyao sidestepped, and Qin Miao, propelled by her own momentum, toppled downward. At the last moment, she grabbed Ye Yaoyao’s clothes, and together they tumbled down the slope.

With Qin Miao as a cushion, Ye Yaoyao’s injuries weren’t severe, but she still scraped herself and bled. She reached for her phone to call an ambulance, only to discover it had vanished.

Getting up, she realized her ankle was sprained.

Ye Yaoyao limped toward the road. As soon as she emerged, she heard the sirens of ambulances and police cars.

“Over here, there are injured people!”

Ye Yaoyao was lifted into the ambulance. She blinked, wondering if she needed to check for a concussion.

Soon, Qin Miao was found and placed in the ambulance as well.

After examination, Ye Yaoyao’s condition was stable, but Qin Miao was sent directly to intensive care.

Upon hearing the news, Ye Shen was the first to arrive at the hospital. Seeing Ye Yaoyao with her head bandaged, he was furious and heartbroken. “Yaoyao, Qin Miao deserves to die for what she’s done!”

“If anything happened to you, ten lives wouldn’t be enough for her to compensate.”

“I’m fine, brother, don’t get so worked up.” Ye Yaoyao hurried to comfort Ye Shen, but in the process tugged at her wound, grimacing in pain. “Ugh…”

“Lie down and don’t move! I’ll stop scolding, all right?” Ye Shen sat on a bench. “A hundred days to heal bones and tendons—you’ll need time to recover from these injuries.”

“These days, don’t worry about company matters.”

“Alright, I’ll listen to you,” Ye Yaoyao replied obediently.

Ye Shen ordered a slew of nourishing supplements for her.

Shen Yan, having heard the news, rushed over and was greeted by the sight of Ye Shen sitting at her bedside, feeding Ye Yaoyao porridge.

Ye Yaoyao lay relaxed on the bed, enjoying Ye Shen’s care. She opened her mouth, and Ye Shen naturally spooned porridge in; their gestures were intimate and familiar, evidence of many years of affection.

The scene stabbed at Shen Yan’s heart.

He slammed the door open, the panel crashing against the wall with a loud bang.

Hearing the commotion, both Ye Yaoyao and Ye Shen frowned in unison, clearly annoyed at the sight of Shen Yan.

Ye Yaoyao glanced at him, then reached out to Ye Shen for a hug.

Ye Shen saw through her little ploy and wrapped her in his arms, continuing to feed her.

Shen Yan kicked the door again.

“You’re in the wrong place—the psychiatric ward isn’t here,” Ye Shen said without lifting his head.

Ye Yaoyao laughed and planted a kiss on Ye Shen’s cheek. “Exactly.”

“I have something to say to you,” Shen Yan’s face was dark.

“Are we that close?” Ye Yaoyao replied.

“Ye Yaoyao!” he barked.

At that, Ye Yaoyao feigned a headache and nestled closer to Ye Shen. “No, I can’t stand the barking—I’m getting a migraine.”

“Get out,” Ye Shen snapped.

Shen Yan trembled with rage, but recalling that night, he smiled meaningfully. “I’m here to take responsibility—for the night of the birthday party.”

At the mention of that night, Ye Yaoyao’s expression changed and Ye Shen’s grip tightened.

Birthday party?

Yu Wanqing’s birthday?

That day, with Yu Wanqing present, Ye Shen had never expected such an incident would occur.

Sensing the shift in atmosphere, Shen Yan felt his provocation was working.

Men could hardly tolerate such things.

“That night, we were mutually willing, so naturally—”

“Enough!” Ye Yaoyao glared fiercely at Shen Yan. This man was truly shameless, speaking of such things in front of her brother!

Watching her react so vividly, Shen Yan smiled in satisfaction. This was exactly the effect he wanted.

“What’s wrong? Don’t you remember what happened that night? I can recount it for you in detail,” Shen Yan continued to provoke.

“Enough, I’ll make you shut up!” Ye Yaoyao yelled, her head hurting. She pushed Ye Shen gently and said, “You go out first.”

Ye Shen nodded, set the supplements aside, gave Shen Yan a deep look, and left, closing the door behind him.

“You’d better have something important to say.”

“What do you plan to do with Qin Miao?” Shen Yan got straight to the point.

“So you’re here to plead for her?”

Ye Yaoyao laughed sarcastically. “President Shen is a man of deep feelings, I see.”

Shen Yan did not respond.

“This isn’t negotiable. Qin Miao must go to prison. If you want to oppose me, then let the Ye family and the Shen family face off,” Ye Yaoyao said calmly.

“The Ye family against the Shen family? Are you so sure Ye Shen will use his power for you?” Shen Yan asked irritably.

How could she be so confident in Ye Shen?

“You’re welcome to try.”

Ye Yaoyao closed her eyes, unwilling to look at Shen Yan any longer.

Shen Yan took a deep breath. Considering their current relationship, he could only retreat for now.

He hadn’t come today to plead for Qin Miao. Qin Miao had hurt Ye Yaoyao behind his back, and he couldn’t let that go. He’d let Qin Miao off before, out of old affection, but she’d only escalated her actions.

“How are you feeling? Are you uncomfortable anywhere?” Shen Yan asked awkwardly.

Ye Yaoyao found his concern strange and opened her eyes to look at him, puzzled.

“What are you talking about?”
