Chapter 16 Trampled to Death!
Qin Miao pointed at herself, then at Ye Yaoyao. “I couldn’t get you to move no matter how hard I tried, but the moment she says a word, you turn around and fetch the dress for her to try on?”
“Because she’s my boss,” the manager replied honestly.
She had shown up in time not to serve Qin Miao, but because the boss had sent word. The gown in question had been designed by the boss herself and was not for sale. A new employee, unaware of its significance, had hung it out on display, and the manager was there to clean up the mess. She hadn’t expected to walk into such a dramatic scene—what a disaster. Qin Miao always appeared so gentle and virtuous on screen, but in private… she turned out to be a bully.
“What did you say?” Qin Miao’s eyes nearly popped out of her head. Her finger trembled as she pointed at Ye Yaoyao. “You’re saying she’s your boss? Are you kidding me?”
“3Y is a top national chain, and it’s even going international. She grew up in an orphanage with no money or connections—how could she possibly be…”
Wait. 3Y—the initials of Ye Yaoyao’s name. Isn’t that it?
So she really is the boss here?
Qin Miao’s voice stopped abruptly. With her shocked expression, everyone else could see she had finally understood.
“Yao Yao, I’m going to try on the dress,” Yu Wanquing chimed in, reveling in the commotion.
Ye Yaoyao shot her a glance and strode away.
Qin Miao collapsed onto the sofa, her mind blank from the impact of this revelation.
Ye Yaoyao was actually the owner of 3Y?
How had she managed it?
How could someone who grew up in an orphanage possibly have the capital and influence?
Of course—she didn’t have the background, but she did have her looks and figure.
Hadn’t she once shamelessly pursued Shen Yan and ended up marrying him?
Tsk. No wonder even A Yan was fooled, for Ye Yaoyao was a seasoned player.
Naturally, Qin Miao would never reveal Ye Yaoyao’s true identity to the Shen family. After all, the 3Y brand alone was worth as much as a listed company worth billions. Old Mrs. Shen always looked down on Ye Yaoyao for her background—if she knew this…
Qin Miao didn’t even dare to imagine it.
…
Yu Wanquing came out after changing, standing before the floor-to-ceiling window and admiring her own beauty.
“It’s stunning! This gown is simply incredible!” Yu Wanquing gushed with praise.
Ye Yaoyao nodded, satisfied as well. “Alright, you can take it off now.”
“Yaoyao, can’t I wear it ahead of time? There’s still a while before my birthday party,” Yu Wanquing coaxed coquettishly.
The dress was too beautiful; she wanted to show it off.
“No. It’s your birthday gift. How can you wear it ahead of time?” Ye Yaoyao insisted. “Take it off, now.”
Unable to win her over, Yu Wanquing had no choice but to take off the dress.
“Yaoyao, what do you think—if Old Mrs. Shen knew you were the cherished daughter of the Ye family, loved by all, with so many assets in your name, would she regret treating you the way she did?”
They had all heard the things Old Mrs. Shen had said.
“It doesn’t matter to me whether they regret it or not. Regret means nothing,” Ye Yaoyao replied calmly.
If her background was the only reason for their regret, then it proved they only cared about the Ye family’s status. Such a relationship was not what she wanted.
No matter how Shen Yan treated her, Ye Yaoyao had never intended to reveal her true identity. She, Ye Yaoyao, did not need anything external to earn love.
After leaving, the two wandered around for a while more, enjoying some snacks before heading home.
…
After a day of relaxation, Ye Yaoyao was ready to wrap up her project, when trouble arose. The supplier she had a deal with for construction materials suddenly backed out. Ye Yaoyao immediately sought alternative suppliers, but none would provide materials.
Upon investigation, she discovered it was Old Mrs. Shen interfering behind the scenes.
How childish!
If she had the guts, she should deal with Shen Yan, not throw her weight around with Ye Yaoyao.
Ye Yaoyao called Shen Yan directly.
He answered quickly, his voice tinged with pleasure. “Hello?”
In the conference room, the other executives couldn’t help but notice the smile tugging at Shen Yan’s lips. Whose call could make their boss so happy?
“Shen Yan, can’t you keep your people in check? This project isn’t just mine, is it? If it succeeds, both you and I benefit. Now my materials are blocked, and Shen Group stands to lose as well.”
Ye Yaoyao got straight to the point. “You handle this yourself.”
Without waiting for his reply, she hung up with a snap.
Shen Yan’s smile froze on his lips.
He tossed his phone onto the table, and the conference room was once again shrouded in tension.
“Meeting’s over.”
Materials? Shen Yan investigated and soon found it was his grandmother behind the trouble.
She just couldn’t sit still for a moment, could she? No sooner was she back than she started stirring up trouble.
Shen Yan dialed her number. “Grandma, your only task now is to enjoy your retirement. Leave everything else alone.”
“Are you instructing me on how to live?” Old Mrs. Shen was displeased with his attitude. “That woman went running to you to complain, didn’t she? She acts like she doesn’t need you in business, but when something happens, who does she turn to? You need to open your eyes! Don’t let her play you with her two-faced tricks.”
“I know exactly what I’m doing, but you’d better not overstep,” Shen Yan replied coolly. “If you can’t keep your hands out of this, I’ll have no choice but to send you abroad for your retirement.”
“You’re threatening me? You’d threaten your own grandmother for the sake of a woman who grew up in an orphanage?” Old Mrs. Shen felt deeply provoked.
An orphanage girl? Yes, Ye Yaoyao had grown up in an orphanage. But over the past three years, he hadn’t treated her well; he hadn’t cherished the opportunity. From now on, he would love her properly and make up for all the affection she had missed.
“If that’s what you think, so be it.”
Shen Yan hung up and gave orders for the materials to be released so the project could continue.
The moment trouble arose, Ye Yaoyao had come straight to him. Did that mean, in her heart, he was still reliable?
Meanwhile, Old Mrs. Shen went to Qin Miao with her complaint, and the two fumed together.
Three years ago, Shen Yan had listened to her every word. She said west, and he wouldn’t dare go east. She had fiercely opposed the three-year agreement, convinced that someone as outstanding as Shen Yan shouldn’t waste his time on a woman of no standing.
But Shen Yan would not be swayed.
Out of spite, Old Mrs. Shen had spent three years abroad, believing that without her help, he would soon be trampled in the Shen Group. Who would have guessed the boy actually had some skill, and managed to secure his position solidly! He contacted her less and less, and ignored everything she said. Now he was even defying her for that woman!
She should have fought harder to keep them apart in the beginning!
Once she heard the project was proceeding smoothly, Ye Yaoyao rolled her eyes.
Completely speechless.
Shen Yan was too slow. If not for her desire to keep her identity hidden, she could have solved everything with a single phone call—there was no need for all this back and forth.
With the project perfectly completed, Ye Yaoyao felt a genuine sense of joy.
This was the first project she had poured her heart and soul into and completed after three years.
