127. Mystique's Night Raid: The "Potency" of the Special Card
Who is Mystique’s boyfriend?
Looking at the entire X-Men film series, in the original trilogy, Mystique may have been strikingly powerful, but she was still only a minor character. In terms of her backstory, she was Magneto’s devoted follower, yet after losing her mutant abilities, she was coldly abandoned by him.
In the prequel series, Mystique rose to the position of female lead and even pursued Professor X, but Professor X treated her only like a younger sister.
Later, Mystique seemed to develop an ambiguous relationship with Beast, Hank McCoy, and in the end, she died in Beast’s arms.
Yet some people claimed that until the moment of her death, Mystique never looked at Beast at all. Her eyes had remained fixed in Professor X’s direction.
So was Professor X Mystique’s true love after all?
Su Ye scratched his head. Suddenly, he felt that his magnificent hair might not be safe after all.
As for the comics, Mystique had several husbands and had even been involved with women. Those relationships could basically be ignored. The system probably would not acknowledge them.
Ding! Use the Excellent-Grade Girlfriend Card “Mystique (Special: Star).” Girlfriend delivery in progress…
No matter what, he still had to use the card. After clicking Use, Su Ye could do nothing but go to sleep and quietly wait for a miracle to occur.
After lying down, Su Ye soon drifted off. In his dream, he seemed to have returned to his childhood.
Back then, his parents had both been extremely busy and were often away from home at night, leaving him alone in the house.
One night, while he was sleeping, he suddenly heard noises coming from the kitchen. He grabbed a rolling pin and went to investigate, only to discover that his mother was rummaging through the refrigerator, looking extremely hungry. Her tone and expression were completely different from those of his usual mother.
After Su Ye exposed her, the fake mother transformed into a little girl with a blue face and red hair.
Later, that little girl changed her surname to Su and began living in Su Ye’s home.
The dream felt incredibly real, almost as though it were not a dream at all, but an actual memory.
However, toward the latter half of the dream, the scene suddenly became dim and indistinct. There was thunder and torrential rain, but he could not make out what had actually happened.
At the same time, the sky over New York suddenly darkened. Thunder boomed overhead from time to time.
Then a bolt of lightning tore across the sky, illuminating Su Ye’s room. At some point, his door had been opened a crack.
A slender figure quietly slipped in through the gap. Tiptoeing to the bedside, she launched an attack on the sleeping Su Ye.
The attack came so suddenly that, with the thunder and lightning outside masking the noise, it did not alert the guards in the Osborn Group building.
But against Su Ye, who possessed spider-sense, a nighttime ambush was useless, even while he was asleep.
Su Ye immediately pinned the attacker beneath the blankets with a move like a lion seizing a lamb. Yet his opponent showed no sign of panic and calmly responded with a counterattack known as the Old Tree Twisting Counter.
When two evenly matched opponents met, both naturally had their strengths. Su Ye’s offensive power was formidable, but his opponent was no weakling either—and she possessed an astonishing ability to transform.
One moment she became Gwen, the next Sharon, then Black Widow, and then Maria Hill. At one point, she even turned into Hinata…
That incredible transformation ability, combined with her wide variety of combat skills, left Su Ye thoroughly impressed.
The night passed without incident.
Early the next morning, Su Ye opened his eyes and glanced sideways at the figure beside him. His brows immediately rose.
Red hair and blue skin were quite a shock when viewed from such close range.
The color of that skin made her seem almost like an entirely different species. If she had merely been dark-skinned, it would have been much easier to accept.
Looking at that blue skin, Su Ye could not help wondering whether it would fade and stain the sheets, his body, or even his manhood…
All right, he was overthinking it. The blue was her natural skin color, not dye. Naturally, it would not come off.
The red-haired, blue-skinned woman beside him was the attacker from the previous night—the one Su Ye had ultimately conquered.
She was none other than Mystique, whom he had just obtained from the card.
Su Ye had not expected Mystique to arrive so quickly, or to be so direct. Was this the power of the “Special” prefix on the girlfriend card?
What reassured him was that although Mystique had blue skin, she did not have as many scale-like protrusions as she did in the movies.
So not only was she pleasant to look at, she also felt comfortable to the touch.
Besides, there was really nothing wrong with blue skin. Once one accepted the premise, she even looked rather adorable.
Without waking Mystique, Su Ye first reached up and touched his own hair. Thankfully, it was still there. He had not gone bald.
Then he raised two fingers and gently pressed them to the corners of his eyebrows, attempting to sense his surroundings through something resembling spider-sense.
He soon discovered that the world he “saw” had changed. Walls no longer blocked his perception. Instead, countless small blue dots appeared before his eyes, moving about.
He selected one at random and focused on it. An unfamiliar thought instantly appeared in his mind.
“Another busy day. I wonder when New York will finally finish rebuilding.”
He switched to another dot.
“That man’s backside is really something. His suit trousers and shirt fit him so well, too. I wonder whether he likes men…”
Ahem! What the hell was that? There were actually fencing enthusiasts hiding among the employees of this building?
That was too indecent. He changed to another one.
“Commander Yisu is so handsome. I want to have his children. That would be amazing!”
That was a good thought. Keep it up. Next.
“I dreamed about Commander Yisu last night. It was as though spring had come. I was so happy!”
His suggestion was to go back to sleep. Perhaps she could continue that springtime dream.
It was obvious that these little blue dots represented individual human beings, and Su Ye had acquired the ability to pry into other people’s thoughts at will.
This ability naturally came from Professor X’s telepathy—and this was merely the most basic application of telepathy. There were many more powerful abilities waiting for him to develop.
So, in the end, had Mystique’s boyfriend been designated as Professor X? He was practically one of the leaders of the X-Men.
Su Ye was delighted. He had become stronger without going bald, and he had conquered such a powerful woman as well. That was three times the happiness.
Besides, secretly using this ability to peek into other people’s thoughts was genuinely addictive. The female employees in the building were beautiful, and their voices were pleasant. It was difficult to stop.
Heh. Another one.
“I wonder when Commander Yisu will show up. I put on makeup especially for him today. Surely he’ll notice the effort I made?”
“I bought coffee especially for him. I wonder whether I’ll have a chance to give it to Commander Yisu.”
…
“Why isn’t Ye up yet? I’ll go wake him. I spent the whole night talking with Sharon yesterday and couldn’t go see him. He won’t be angry, will he? I’ll give him a good-morning apology bite—wait, what’s going on? Why do I feel so strange, as though something is watching me?”
“Gasp!”
Su Ye could not help drawing in a sharp breath.
The last thought had belonged to Gwen.
But he had not gasped because Gwen had discovered his peeping. He had gasped because Mystique was still lying beside him. What would he say if Gwen found her there?
Worse, Gwen had already reached the door. Even if Mystique left now, it was too late.
“Raven, wake up!”
While linking to Mystique through telepathy and urging her to get up, Su Ye looked toward the distant door, which had been left unlocked, and considered how he might lock it and slow Gwen down.
Could he use webbing? No, he was not wearing his web-shooters.
Telepathy could control a person’s consciousness and actions. He could perhaps freeze Gwen outside the door, but would her spider-sense detect it?
If only telepathy could control the lock as well.
Just as Su Ye was thinking this, he suddenly felt a strange power appear within him.
Then the distant lock clicked and locked itself.
Su Ye’s eyes lit up.
“Could this be Magneto’s power?”
He raised a hand and waved toward the web-shooter on the table. The device immediately rose slowly into the air, flew to his hand, and automatically fastened itself around his wrist.
Then Su Ye waved both hands. Every metallic object on the table lifted into the air and began whirling and drifting around him.
As expected of a card with the “Special” suffix. Combined with Magneto’s abilities, this was four times the happiness.
“Bro, can you let me sleep a little longer? I’m exhausted.”
Raven, Mystique’s current form, mumbled from behind him.
Su Ye was watching the dancing metal objects and thinking about how to develop his magnetic-field manipulation. Without turning around, he replied,
“Get up already. My girlfriend is here…”
In that instant, the air in the entire world seemed to freeze. The metal objects in midair clattered to the floor one after another.
Su Ye turned around stiffly, screaming inwardly, Raven, let me explain!
But Raven did not take it seriously. She merely rolled her eyes at him and snorted.
“I understand.”
Then the blue skin covering her body began to shift rapidly. Before long, she had transformed into a handsome young man with a sunny appearance, neatly dressed and bearing a slight resemblance to Su Ye.
At that moment, Gwen heard the clattering from outside. She kicked open the locked door and dashed inside.
“Ye, what happened…?”
After entering, Gwen cast a fierce gaze around the room. Then she saw Raven sitting on the sofa, holding a magazine and pretending to read it.
“Who… who is this?”
Su Ye scratched his head and tried to put on a calm expression as he prepared to explain.
But Raven stood first and smiled at Gwen.
“Hello. I’m Su Ruiwen, my brother’s younger brother. I just arrived from the Dragon Kingdom last night. Something this serious has happened here, and our father was worried, so he sent me to take a look.”
As he spoke, Raven stepped forward and looked Gwen up and down. With a faint smile, he said,
“You must be Gwen Stacy, my brother’s girlfriend?”
Gwen was completely bewildered. She had not expected anyone else to be in Su Ye’s room. Still, since the person was a man, it was not really a problem.
Su Ye would never sink so low as to fool around with another man. Gwen knew that much for certain.
But this man was Su Ye’s younger brother. He shared the Su family name and had been sent by their father. What exactly was he here for?
Was he planning to take Su Ye back to the Dragon Kingdom?
After her brief clash with Hinata the previous day, Gwen had temporarily set aside her doubts, but the matter had not disappeared. It still remained lodged in her throat like a thorn.
The appearance of this man calling himself Su Ruiwen immediately set off every alarm in Gwen’s mind, filling her with a profound sense of crisis.
When Raven saw that Gwen had remained silent for so long, he shrugged and turned to Su Ye.
“Looks like my little sister-in-law doesn’t like me.”
Su Ye could only remain silent. He had no position in this matter.
On one side was his official girlfriend. On the other was Raven, who had just lost her own formidable advantage. He had better keep his mouth shut.
The rest could be discussed later.
Gwen hurriedly shook her head.
“No, no. It’s just… this happened so suddenly that I’m having trouble taking it in. You two carry on. I’m going to find someone to repair the door.”
With that, Gwen backed out of the room and ran away without looking back.
I’m a foreigner—the foreign girl in their eyes. Hinata already looks down on me, and now I’ve kicked down the door to Ye’s room right in front of his younger brother. If his parents find out, they’ll probably dislike me even more. Maybe they’ll never accept me at all.
Gwen fled in a panic, completely unaware that Su Ye could hear her thoughts.
Inside the room, Raven walked over to Su Ye and looked sideways at his face.
“What? Feeling sorry for her? I haven’t even said anything yet. Want me to chase after her and comfort her properly?”
As he spoke, Raven struck one of Michael Jackson’s iconic dance poses and raised an eyebrow.
“You know, I have the ability to comfort her now.”
Su Ye rolled his eyes.
“No need. Thanks, but no thanks.”
Shaking his head, Su Ye got dressed and walked over to the window.
“You said Old Su sent you here?”
Raven came to a stop beside him and nodded.
“Yeah. Old Su said you might be in danger and told me to come check on you, so I rushed over overnight. I just didn’t expect you to…”
Raven adopted an affected, coy posture.
“I never would have imagined that you, Su the Great, were this kind of person. When we were children, you ignored me, and now that we’re grown, you actually… Hmph! I misjudged you!”
Su Ye fought the urge to scratch his head.
“You were the one who initiated it.”
I merely didn’t refuse.
This time, Raven said nothing. He simply stared at Su Ye, his eyes filled with grievance. Tears even began to gather in them.
Su Ye could only surrender.
“All right, all right. It was my fault. I forced you. I apologize, my dearest little brother.”
“Hmph!”
Raven turned away angrily, but a trace of amusement appeared on his face.
“By the way, did Old Su say anything else when he sent you? For example, did he send scrolls or magical artifacts? Or ask a few uncles and old friends to come help?”
Su Ye asked again.
Old Su knew that there was danger here, which was why he had sent Raven over. But Raven, in the form of Mystique, could only transform and heal somewhat faster than ordinary people. She had no other abilities.
What help could someone like that provide?
He had traveled all this way. Surely she had not come simply to deliver a pen.
Raven shook his head.
“I don’t know. Old Su just said that I needed to come. He said I didn’t have to worry about anything else.”
“Gasp!”
Su Ye drew in another sharp breath, his eyes lighting up.
There was clearly more to Old Su’s words than met the eye.
