Chapter 101: The Great Hero
"What nonsense are you spouting now? What do you mean you’ve looked me over from head to toe, inside and out? When have I ever let you see anything? Has a shell hit your head, and now you want another bullet too?"
Liu Telin glared at Chen Yufeng in fury, grinding her teeth with exasperation. What a lunatic you are.
"All right, we’ll deal with that later. Let your big brother show what he can do and settle the crisis in front of us first. Just watch."
Chen Yufeng looked at her with a confident smile.
"Fine. Then I’ll see how you solve it."
Liu Telin knew Chen Yufeng possessed extraordinary means. At such a critical moment, there really was no better choice, so she could only trust him.
"Mm. Watch closely. A woman is useless if she’s only busty; she has to have a brain, understand? Learn something."
Chen Yufeng spoke with full confidence. He even pinched her slender waist before striding toward the agitated Cheng Jian.
Seeing him go over, many people who had already run a long distance shouted at once, afraid he would be blown to pieces:
"Hero, no! Come back! It’s dangerous, dangerous!"
"Yes, Hero, come back quickly! Come back! You’ll be blown up!"
"Thanks for your concern, everyone. I’ll be fine. Just watch me."
Chen Yufeng turned back, waved at them, and smiled gratefully, still pressing forward without the least hesitation.
Some people cursed under their breath, saying he was putting on a hero act and deserved to be blown apart.
Others, however, grew even more awestruck. A true hero!
From the look of things, Chen Yufeng already understood what was going on.
The man had lost both parents, his wife had left him, and his family had fallen apart. Clearly, he had suffered a crushing blow. Even the last pillar that had kept him alive, his dream of becoming a star, had been repeatedly and mercilessly battered by reality until it was utterly shattered. He could no longer see any hope.
He had completely lost faith in life.
So he had come to die, and take the director he hated with him.
Chen Yufeng could understand that bitterness, which was why he wanted to save the man’s life.
"Friend, don’t act on impulse. The moment you do, this whole thing will get far worse."
Chen Yufeng’s expression was gentle as he looked at him.
"Before anything happens, put the thing in your hand down right now. With me backing you, no one will dare trouble you, not even the police. You want a chance to rise above your station, and I’ll give you one. But if you refuse to listen, then not even the immortals can help you."
"No, impossible..."
Cheng Jian shook his head firmly.
"I don’t want to keep living and suffering anymore. It’s too tiring. Brother, you should go. You dared to forcibly kiss a female star, beat up the male lead, hit the director, punch the stunt crew, and kick the production team. I admire a man like you. The blast from this stuff is powerful. I don’t want to drag you into it."
"Be good. Don’t do anything stupid."
Chen Yufeng continued to advise him patiently.
"If you believe me, put down what you’re holding right now. With me here, nothing will happen. Your life from now on will be bright as daylight. But if you stay obstinate, then I can’t be bothered with you anymore."
"No, I don’t want to live. I only want to die..."
Deep despair seeped through Cheng Jian’s expression, leaving no trace of compromise.
"Hero, step back! If you don’t, you’ll be blasted to ashes!"
"Yes, Hero, retreat quickly! You may be skilled, but flesh and blood can’t withstand the force of explosives!"
Seeing this, the people around knew the tragedy could not be avoided.
Several who stood far away were secretly anxious for Chen Yufeng, urging him to retreat at once so he would not be caught in the blast and lose his life for nothing.
Chen Yufeng heard their well-meaning shouts and turned to wave and smile at them.
"Thank you. Since everyone is so worried about me and reluctant to see me die, I’ll step back then."
With that, he immediately jogged back toward the crowd.
Seeing him sensibly return, those who had been concerned let out a quiet breath of relief.
"Hero, that’s the right choice. This is no time to play the martyr..."
The people who had just mocked him for trying to act heroic finally found their chance to sneer.
"Show-off. Keep showing off, damn you. Why stop now?"
"So being called a Hero really made you think you were one? In the end, you still had to run back because you were afraid of dying. Disgusting."
When Liu Telin saw Chen Yufeng retreat, disappointment also flickered across her face.
So much for learning something. So much for watching me perform.
I thought you really had some heaven-defying ability. Turns out you were just running your mouth.
Her tone toward Chen Yufeng now carried an unmistakable hint of mockery.
"Weren’t you so confident that you were going to show off a little? Why are you coming back?"
"Sorry, I misspoke just now. It wasn’t a little show-off; it was a little mouth-off."
Chen Yufeng shrugged and gave her a helpless look.
"I’ve already mouthed off a little, but he wouldn’t listen. What else was I supposed to do?"
"You..."
Liu Telin clenched her teeth in anger, her face darkening.
"You’re just good with your mouth. So you weren’t that impressive after all."
"Then what did you want? For me to get blown up?"
Chen Yufeng said it as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
"Forget it, forget it. Coming back was the smartest thing you could have done anyway. At least you won’t get blown to pieces."
After giving him a bit of a reality check, Liu Telin had nothing more to say. After all, if Chen Yufeng really had tried to play hero and been blown to death, she would probably have felt a little sad.
"Big-busted sister, looks like you do care about me after all."
Chen Yufeng grinned again.
"You’re thinking too much. I just don’t want another dead person on my conscience..."
Liu Telin rolled her eyes. You really are delusional.
Just then, Cheng Jian, who had already been driven into a frenzy, suddenly threw his head back and roared at the sky.
"I’ve made up my mind to die! You worthless director can die with me!"
Then he pressed the button on the remote in his hand.
Ah!
The crowd watching from a distance shrieked in terror and instinctively covered their ears, retreating several more steps as they feared the blast might catch them too.
"No..."
Director Gao was so frightened he wet himself on the spot.
Others might still be able to run farther, but he could not escape. Once the explosives went off, he would absolutely be blown to pieces, leaving not even slag behind...
In truth, Chen Yufeng had already spent six points in advance at the Divine Disk Mall to exchange for a skill that would make the detonator malfunction, as well as a skill that allowed instant movement for ten minutes.
So at that very moment, just as Cheng Jian pressed the remote to detonate the explosives, Chen Yufeng flashed into place. In a bolt of lightning, he snatched the remote from his hand.
It all happened far, far too fast. Everyone stared in dumbfounded shock.
The entire scene fell instantly into a deathly silence. Everyone involuntarily held their breath, and even the air itself seemed thick with astonishment.
Unbelievable. Truly unbelievable...
After several seconds in that state, everyone slowly came back to their senses, still scarcely daring to believe it.
Only when they saw the remote control already in Chen Yufeng’s hand did they finally realize that the impossible scene they had just witnessed was real.
It was no illusion.
That meant that, at the last possible moment, this guy had saved Director Gao?
Everything Chen Yufeng had done up to this point was already outrageously impressive, and now he had moved in an instant, seized the remote, stopped the explosion, and saved Director Gao’s life.
It was enough to draw thunderous admiration.
How many people in real life had ever seen a monster like this?
Was he even human?
He had clearly been standing over there just a moment ago. How had he suddenly appeared in front of the long-haired man in an instant and taken the remote from his hand?
A Hero, truly a Hero!
A hero. A damn incredible hero...
Those who had just been mocking Chen Yufeng for showing off finally came to their senses and felt their faces burning with pain.
So this guy really was a man like a god.
Meanwhile, those who had already been worshipping Chen Yufeng began applauding and cheering of their own accord, and soon thunderous applause erupted.
For this godlike young hero...
[Brothers, please spare another minute or two to read this. My deepest thanks. First, I want to thank all my brothers and good buddies. With your powerful support, this book’s popularity has risen again and its ranking has climbed higher.
This is all thanks to you. Without your support, this book would be nothing. And when popularity goes up, it naturally attracts jealous people who start talking trash. I’m certain most of them are not readers, but fellow authors. They’re just mindlessly spewing nonsense. Most of my fellow writers are actually very good people, but there are always some with dark hearts who cannot bear to see others doing well.
Yesterday I deleted several troll reviews. I saw some brothers helping me blow off steam, and I really appreciate it. But brothers, don’t bother with them anymore. Let them rant if they want; I’m too lazy to care now. I just hope everyone can read my book in a happy mood and finish it feeling cheerful.
As some of you have said, if I enjoy reading, I’ll vote, tip, and leave comments actively. I’m grateful for that, and I’m also grateful to the brothers who read quietly every day. Your quiet following is also support for this book.
Another thing is that I’m feeling rather down today, very sad, and I cried badly. The older brothers who have been with me for a while know that my mother has nasopharyngeal cancer, and it is already in the terminal stage. I’m taking care of my mother while writing this book. I’ve asked the doctor about it, and the outlook is not good, but I will still continue her treatment.
I can’t just watch her go like this. My mother knows her own condition and knows she does not have much time left. In a few days it will be her birthday.
Today, she suddenly told me that this year will probably be her last birthday. My nose stung, and I went and cried in the bathroom for a long time just now.
My mother is only fifty, but there’s nothing we can do. She has somehow fallen victim to such an incurable disease.
The only thing that keeps me optimistic enough to keep living is this book. I really love writing. I enjoy the joy of creating. There are so many wonderful scenes and interesting ideas in my head, and I want to write them for you to read.
Thankfully, this book has received the recognition and support of so many brothers, and the editor has also shown me great kindness. That is perhaps the greatest comfort I could hope for.
I’ve said all this because I just got emotional and wanted to vent. In the future I’ll try not to leave messages at the end of chapters anymore, so as not to affect your reading.
Unless it concerns a life-or-death contest that could determine the fate of this book, in which case I’ll have to ask for your support.
You can also rest assured that my mother’s illness will not affect my writing. We’ve been treating it for so long that I was already mentally prepared. It’s just that when my mother said today would probably be her last birthday, I really couldn’t hold it in and suddenly got overwhelmed.
Some people may think I’m trying to play the pity card, but this really is the truth of what has happened to me. There’s no helping it. These past twenty-odd years of mine have truly been one obstacle after another.
Finally, I want to thank every brother and buddy who has supported this book. Thank you. I hope you can stay with this book for a long time. We’ve only just managed to force a small opening for now, but there are still brutal contests ahead, and we’ll have to fight through them. I still need your support as always. Only with your support can this book survive and go farther.
There will be many more wonderful and interesting ideas ahead, and I’ll make sure everyone has a satisfying read. The plot will only become more and more exciting.
My heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported this book. Thank you all!]
