Chapter 54: When Something Unusual Happens, There Must Be Something Amiss
He Meixuan now found herself utterly unable to fathom Chen Yufeng; in truth, she had never truly understood him. She suspected he was hiding many secrets and had originally intended to ask him directly, but considering they’d only known each other for a few days and knowing his personality, she doubted he’d give her any honest answers. She feared it might even backfire and provoke his displeasure. So, after some thought, He Meixuan decided to keep her questions to herself for now, waiting for their relationship to deepen before probing further.
As a young heiress, He Meixuan had seen much of the world, and few people truly piqued her interest. Those wildly popular celebrities online, Korean heartthrobs, pretty-faced idols—all held little appeal for her. Yet the boy before her, seemingly ordinary, was in fact so extraordinary that she felt an urge to understand him more deeply. Women, by nature, are creatures of curiosity. The more mysterious you are, the more she is drawn to you.
At eighteen or nineteen, Miss He was filled with romantic dreams, and now, faced with the enigmatic Chen Yufeng, her heart fluttered with an unfamiliar excitement.
“So, Master Xiaofeng, have you ever considered taking a female apprentice?” she asked, genuinely eager to learn his incredible skill. But Chen Yufeng quickly shook his head. “Sorry, I don’t take apprentices—only wives.”
“You… can’t teach me, just a little?” she pressed.
“Of course not. Why would I share such a remarkable skill with you?” He was blunt in his refusal.
Struck by his direct rejection, He Meixuan couldn’t help feeling a little disappointed, her tender heart suffering a thousand wounds. After all, she was the campus belle—how could she be so casually dismissed? She pouted and protested, “Fine, don’t teach me then, stingy.”
On second thought, she realized that even if he did teach her, she might not be able to learn it, which would be embarrassing. Besides, such a godlike skill couldn’t be shared so easily.
‘I don’t take apprentices—only wives.’ Did he mean he wanted me to be his wife? Oh, He Meixuan, what are you thinking? Are you daydreaming?
“Hey, Big Sister Busty, what are you standing there for? Don’t tell me you’ve forgotten the bet. My back aches—come and massage me,” Chen Yufeng demanded, relishing his victory and the prospect of being served by the proud policewoman. Such a benefit! Even a haughty cop had to play maid for him.
Wang Lixin and his daughter Wang Hui admired Chen Yufeng immensely. Such a proud policewoman, yet he had subdued her. They were curious to see this fierce lady play maid—it was an amusing thought.
However, they seemed to have underestimated Liu Tielin’s character. She had lost the wager, but serving someone was clearly not an option for her. She retorted, “You don’t actually believe that, do you?”
“Come on, Big Sister Busty, are you trying to back out?” Chen Yufeng grumbled. He wasn’t about to let her off easily.
In truth, Liu Tielin wasn’t one to cheat, but playing maid to Chen Yufeng was simply out of the question. She paused, her eyes sparkling with mischief, and suddenly suggested with a playful smile, “How about this—I’ll make it up to you another way. Let me take you somewhere really fun later. I guarantee you’ll love it. What do you say?”
“You’ve got to be kidding…” Chen Yufeng looked her over, realizing this fierce policewoman wouldn’t be conquered easily. He actually liked her style—it showed character. He decided to give her an out.
“Are you inviting me out?” he asked with a sly grin.
Surprisingly, Liu Tielin nodded, “Yes, I’m inviting you.”
“Really inviting me?”
“Yes.”
Wow, with the divine power in my hands, my charm is unstoppable! Has Big Sister Busty already fallen for me, inviting me so boldly? Is she planning to take me shopping, to dinner, to a movie… or even to a hotel?
Pleased with himself, Chen Yufeng cleared his throat and, feigning reluctance, replied, “You know, someone as extraordinary as me is admired by countless girls. I get hundreds of invitations daily—if not a thousand, at least eight hundred. Normally, you’d have to queue up till next year to get a chance, but since we’re so fated and you’re being so earnest, I’ll prioritize you and give you this opportunity.”
“Thanks, little hero. Just wait—big sister will make sure you enjoy yourself,” Liu Tielin replied, barely able to stomach his bravado. Was he really so shameless? No, not shameless—utterly without shame.
Invite you out? Dream on. Let’s see how this policewoman plays you.
Chen Yufeng noticed her surprisingly good mood and sensed something was off—she must have something planned. He braced himself for whatever she might throw at him.
Fine, let’s see what tricks you have. I’m not afraid. Bring out all your moves—I’ll play along. Let’s see who wins.
He Meixuan couldn’t bear it any longer. He was clearly a narcissist—a total flirt. She’d originally felt a slight attraction to him, given his extraordinary abilities, but now she thought it best to dismiss those feelings altogether.
Of course, Chen Yufeng was delighted to show off. How else could he earn reward points? Bragging in front of one person earned him three points; in front of four, it multiplied. With just those few boastful remarks, his reward points shot up—twelve points gained, for a total of fifty-eight. Was there anything more gratifying?
No one dared challenge him to dice anymore, so Chen Yufeng switched tactics. They played drinking games, chatting and laughing as they ate and drank for over half an hour. There were wins and losses, but no one drank too much.
Around three o’clock, the meal finally ended. Chen Yufeng had grown much more familiar with everyone, especially with Wang Lixin, whom he now called “brother.” Wang Lixin greatly admired Chen Yufeng’s talents and felt honored to be his peer—after all, such a rare genius could solve any major illness in the family at a moment’s notice.
“Brother Xiaofeng, you all have fun. I’ll take Huihui and head out first. Stay in touch,” Wang Lixin said.
“Take care,” Chen Yufeng replied.
Knowing the three of them planned to go out, Wang Lixin didn’t delay them—after bidding farewell, he left with his daughter.
As soon as they were gone, Liu Tielin turned to Chen Yufeng and He Meixuan, “Let’s go, too. Big sister will take you somewhere fun.”
“Alright!” Chen Yufeng and He Meixuan happily got in the car, a little excited to see where the policewoman would take them.
Liu Tielin then drove them away...
