Chapter 19: The Helmsman of Longteng Group
He spent the night at the hotel. Around six or seven in the morning, Chen Yufeng got up early, washed up briefly, and changed into a fresh outfit before heading out.
He wore a white t-shirt paired with a denim jacket on top, slim black pants and canvas shoes below—all recommendations from the salesgirl at the clothing store yesterday. With his clean, neat short hair, he looked bright and handsome enough.
Afterward, Chen Yufeng enjoyed a complimentary breakfast at the hotel restaurant. While eating, he browsed local rental listings online, planning to rent an apartment for the time being since he still had over a hundred thousand yuan left. There were plenty of apartments for rent online. After a bit of searching, he settled on Jingxuan Apartments, located near the city center.
About thirty or forty minutes later, Chen Yufeng arrived at Jingxuan Apartments by taxi. Guided by a young sales agent, he toured the apartment complex. The environment of this fairly upscale apartment was indeed impeccable, not that he was particularly picky to begin with.
After a casual look around, Chen Yufeng nodded in satisfaction and said to the agent, “Just take me to see the room.”
“Sure thing, sir,” the agent replied cheerfully, happy to oblige. He led Chen Yufeng up by elevator to room 2202 on the twenty-second floor of Building D.
The room was a standard studio apartment—one bedroom, one kitchen, one bathroom—with tasteful furnishings and decor. Though not spacious, it felt cozy and inviting. All the amenities were complete: air conditioning, washing machine, wifi—everything one could need.
It was far superior to the dorm he’d lived in at school.
He had already checked the rent online before coming. Satisfied with the room now, he made a straightforward decision on the spot: two thousand five hundred yuan per month, utilities not included. The minimum lease was six months, with a three-thousand-yuan deposit.
With over a hundred thousand in hand, this was a trivial expense. Chen Yufeng closed the deal on the spot, paying eighteen thousand yuan in cash for the first six months. He signed the contract, received the key card, and officially moved in.
He then went out to the supermarket and bought everything he needed.
Now, his primary goal was to settle accounts with Longteng Group. Once he’d stocked up on supplies, he left the apartment and took a taxi straight to the headquarters of Longteng Group.
With the Divine Disk in hand, what was there to fear?
Since he was going to seek justice, he would go directly to the helm—to Zhao Tianlong, the head of the Longteng Group. He had no interest in dealing with petty underlings.
Two lives for a mere two hundred thousand?
To hell with that.
Just thinking about it made Chen Yufeng seethe with anger.
You think you can bully others with your power? Fine, I’ll make sure you pay dearly.
…
Jiang Tailong and his men had suffered a major loss the previous day. Today, he’d mobilized everyone to scour the city for that arrogant man in ancient garb.
Several of his lieutenants were armed with real guns. He believed that, no matter how skilled that kid was, he would have to back down in the face of firearms.
If they didn’t take him out, how could their anger be appeased?
“Find him—no matter what, bring him to me. Tell the brothers to be diligent,” Jiang Tailong barked furiously from his Range Rover.
“Don’t worry, Brother Long, I’ve sent everyone out. That kid won’t get away…”
While these people scoured the city for Chen Yufeng, he had already arrived at the main entrance of Longteng Group’s headquarters.
This skyscraper, located in the bustling commercial district of Ninghai City, soared thirty-six stories high, housing all the various departments of Longteng Group. Chairman Zhao Tianlong’s office was on the top floor.
Chen Yufeng had just learned all this from inquiries.
Indeed, spending money got things done efficiently. With just five hundred yuan, he’d gotten the parking lot security guard outside Longteng Group to reveal quite a bit, saving himself a lot of trouble—no need to wait around aimlessly.
After all, Zhao Tianlong didn’t come to headquarters every day. He only showed up once or twice a month for meetings, and was always accompanied by eight highly skilled bodyguards.
“Young man, why are you asking so many questions? Are you looking for our chairman?” the security guard asked, growing wary after so many questions. After all, he worked for Longteng Group.
“Uh, well, I do have some business,” Chen Yufeng replied, slipping another five hundred yuan into the guard’s hand.
The security guard, who looked to be in his fifties and had worked there for over ten years, was naturally well-informed.
“No problem, happy to help,” the guard grinned, quickly pocketing the money.
He went on to share quite a bit more, though most of it was gossip. He didn’t know Zhao Tianlong’s exact residence; rumor had it his wife and children lived abroad, and he himself had no fixed address, moving from place to place.
Just as Chen Yufeng was about to leave in disappointment, the guard leaned in and whispered, “Young man, I’ll let you in on a secret. It’s not impossible to find out exactly where our chairman is. You just have to…”
He paused, eyeing Chen Yufeng, a calculating glint in his eyes.
“What do I have to do?” Chen Yufeng understood what the man was after. Greedy as he was, it was understandable—life wasn’t easy for people at the bottom, and rare opportunities for extra income were not to be missed.
Without further ado, he handed over another five hundred yuan, bringing the total to fifteen hundred.
He didn’t mind the money, as long as he could track down Zhao Tianlong.
The security guard beamed with delight, clapping Chen Yufeng on the shoulder as he said, “All you have to do is go to the bars—there are people there who make a living off information. It’ll cost more, but they have connections. Whatever you want to know, they can find out for you.”
“Oh, really?”
“Why would I lie? Go to a place called Maserati Bar—the beautiful bartender there specializes in this. She’ll definitely be able to help you.”
Though the guard was in his fifties, he was no stranger to nightlife. He frequented such places to unwind, and the more often he went, the more people he got to know, so he was well-informed about such things.
“Alright, got it. Thanks a lot!”
“Young man, don’t rush. Go at night—at least after ten. Those places aren’t even open during the day!” the security guard advised.
Chen Yufeng rolled his eyes. As if he didn’t know that—did the guy think he was a novice?
“And remember, say Uncle Li sent you!” the guard added, hoping to earn a few drinks in return.
“No problem,” Chen Yufeng replied. Having gathered this information, he didn’t linger. He hailed a taxi and returned to his apartment, planning to visit the bar that evening to gather more intel.
