Chapter 152: The League of Esper Powers
Rumble, rumble—
Once the four battle generals had taken their seats, the helicopter took off.
It sped beneath the azure sky, flying over the bustling capital, over towns and villages, over mountains and rivers, heading straight for the Taklamakan Desert...
The four men aboard the helicopter were each in a different mood.
Su Xiaoli was an adventurer at heart. She loved exploring all kinds of ruins, forbidden places, and perilous territories, so she was visibly excited.
Jiang Kun was a battle maniac who adored fighting. His greatest pleasure was thrashing the people of the Kamikaze Group and the Red Legion, thereby displaying the might of the Divine Generals Group.
He, too, was visibly thrilled.
Wu Qitian was aloof and cool, always carrying himself like a king and rarely revealing his emotions.
Only when he chatted with Su Xiaoli would a charming smile appear on his face.
As for Chen Yufeng, he was simply treating the trip as an outing. If he happened to gain something unexpected along the way, all the better...
The Taklamakan Desert lies at the center of the Tarim Basin in southern Xinjiang, Huaxia. It is the largest desert in Huaxia and the second-largest shifting-sand desert in the world.
Over the course of millions upon millions of years, countless ancient cities had been buried beneath its sands. The famous ancient city of Loulan, for instance, vanished here, and the ancient Silk Road had once left its mark across this land.
How many civilizations had originated and perished here?
How many legends lay buried beneath these endless sands?
The seas had changed, the stars had shifted, and countless years had passed. Countless civilizations had disappeared, yet this sea of sand remained eternal, stretching across the land as it had since time immemorial.
There were simply too many legends concerning this desert.
That was why it had attracted so many archaeologists and adventurers seeking to uncover its secrets. Almost all of them had returned in disappointment, while countless others had even lost their lives beneath these sands.
It was said that, even in modern times, many strange incidents had occurred here, adding yet another layer of mystery to the place.
It was now around five or six in the afternoon.
The temperature was finally no longer as terrifying as it had been at noon, but the wind still sent sand and stones flying. Anyone walking through this boundless desert would find it anything but pleasant.
Endless yellow sand surrounded them in every direction. Farther away, undulating hills stretched into the distance, formed entirely from the same golden sand.
This was a world of sand, an ocean of sand. The rolling dunes met the horizon, making it impossible to imagine where the desert ended...
Meng Tao was presently in a state little better than half-dead.
Although he was still mounted on a camel—
No, it would be more accurate to say that he was leading it. Half an hour earlier, the camel had thrown a fit and refused to let him ride any longer. It was probably exhausted as well.
Aside from his eyes and ears, nearly every other part of Meng Tao's body had been affected to some degree.
His legs and feet were numb, his back and waist ached, his chest felt tight, and his breathing was labored. His face was pale and his lips parched. All he could do was gulp down water repeatedly for some relief.
Meng Tao had been walking through the desert for most of the day. In order not to lose sight of the alliance formed by the Kamikaze Group and the Red Legion ahead of him, he had pushed himself to the limit.
Fortunately, he had already received word from Wu Qitian that they were nearly there and that he only needed to hold on a little longer.
The trouble was, they had said the same thing two hours ago. They had said it again an hour ago, and once more half an hour ago.
As a result, Meng Tao was deeply irritated and did not believe them at all. He seriously doubted whether they were coming in the first place.
About a kilometer ahead of him, the eight-man alliance of the Kamikaze Group and the Red Legion was advancing at an unhurried pace.
They were all superpowered individuals, after all, so walking through the desert was not especially taxing for them. They did not suffer the same exhaustion that ordinary people would have experienced.
The Kamikaze Group's leader on this mission was Sakuragi Mie, a young woman of twenty-five or twenty-six.
Her beautiful face was adorned with exquisite makeup. Her lashes were thick and curled, her eyes alluring, and her full lips sensual. Her long, wine-red hair fell loosely over her shoulders in thick waves, every strand radiating a fiery allure.
She wore a white crop top that revealed her slender, snake-like waist and prominently curved breasts.
Her lower half was clad in pale-blue denim shorts. Her pert buttocks were perfectly accentuated, while her long legs were both shapely and alluring.
Her figure was breathtakingly voluptuous, and every inch of her seemed to exude a captivating charm.
The three other superpowered members of the Kamikaze Group following behind her were all young men.
The Red Legion's leader on this mission was Teld. He was not particularly broad or muscular, and he was a little short of six feet tall. His features were sharply defined, his blue eyes deep-set, and his blond hair neat and closely cropped.
Compared with the rough, rugged appearance common among men from Country M, he looked rather delicate and refined.
Three tall members of the Red Legion followed behind him.
The two groups appeared to get along fairly well. They chatted and laughed as they walked, and this was probably due mainly to Sakuragi Mie. With her leading the team, the men from Country M were quite friendly toward those from Country R—and even more eager to curry favor with her.
At that moment, one of the men, a hulking figure nearly two meters tall, said to Teld, “Boss, that fly behind us has been following us for most of the day. My fists are itching. I really want to charge over there and smash his head in.”
“Fool!”
A trace of anger appeared on Teld's formerly mild face as he harshly rebuked him.
“Wick, you're far too impulsive. You idiot—do you know anything about my plan? I'm warning all of you not to alert the enemy. No one is to act recklessly without my order. Anyone who disobeys me and ruins my plan will end up with a pig's head. Understood?”
As he spoke, his deep blue eyes suddenly turned crimson, as if blazing flames were burning within them.
Those fiery eyes swept across everyone present, serving as a warning to them all. The superpowered members of the Kamikaze Group paid him no attention.
Wick and the other two members of the Red Legion, however, trembled in fear and hurriedly nodded.
“Yes, yes, Boss. We understand.”
“Good. I don't want any more acts of insubordination from you. Don't even let the thought arise in your minds. Clear?”
“Yes, we understand!”
Seeing them nod obediently, Teld's eyes returned to their normal blue, and his expression softened once more.
It was obvious that although he was the smallest of the Red Legion's superpowered members, he held absolute authority.
They all seemed deeply wary of him—so much so that their wariness had become outright fear.
Wick rubbed his hands together, then reluctantly abandoned his urge to beat someone up. He was afraid of angering Teld again, and the consequences would be disastrous.
Sakuragi Mie cast Teld a coquettish glance, slipped her right arm through his, and giggled beside him.
“Oh, Teld dear, why are you getting so angry? It's already so hot here. Aren't you afraid you'll be dried out?”
Teld looked at her and replied suggestively, “No matter how high the temperature gets, it still can't compare with how hot you are. I'm not afraid of the heat. I'm only afraid of being dried out by you.”
As he spoke, he gave her pert buttocks a squeeze. Sakuragi Mie responded with a sultry laugh, appearing even more alluring and flirtatious. Behind them, Wick and the other two men swallowed hard, their mouths dry.
The three members of the Kamikaze Group, Sato Kazuo among them, showed little reaction. Perhaps they were simply accustomed to her seductive ways.
