Chapter 16: The Guardian of Beauty, Yu Linfeng
At this moment, however, Chen Yufeng spoke with a hidden meaning:
“In this line of work, credibility is everything, isn’t it? If the price is three thousand, then it’s three thousand. You give thirty thousand, he gives three, of course I’ll take all the money. But I’ll represent the one who gave me three thousand.”
He Meixuan and her companions were taken aback, finding his words rather baffling, yet sensing a glimmer of hope.
Jiang Tailong’s gang, on the other hand, were furious. Their faces darkened instantly. “Brother, there are rules in this world. If you take the money, you do the job. What you’re doing isn’t right!”
To Chen Yufeng, the money these men made was hardly honest. They bullied the common folk and strong-armed their way through the streets. It was clear they’d done no end of shady deeds.
If such people were handing over money, why shouldn’t he take it? He had no intention of feigning lofty morals and refusing dirty money. So he replied indifferently, “I forgot to mention, I never play by the rules. All those so-called codes of the underworld mean nothing to me.”
“You… you’re shameless and arrogant!”
The bald, burly men, still nursing the pain from their earlier beating, felt their rage ignite at Chen Yufeng’s words.
As Chen Yufeng and his group turned to leave, the thugs, ignoring their injuries, erupted in fury, brandishing their blades at him once more. But it was futile; the effect of the Vajra Arhat possession was still active, and they were swiftly subdued.
Cries of pain filled the air as they were thrown to the ground again, glaring hatefully at the imposing figure before them.
“What are you waiting for? Move!”
Chen Yufeng had no interest in dealing with them any further. He signaled to He Meixuan and the others to hurry up and leave.
“Wait, let me get to the bottom of this first.”
He Meixuan, knowing these men were acting under orders, wanted to uncover the mastermind. She demanded of Jiang Tailong, “Who sent you after me? If you tell the truth, I won’t make things difficult for you. I’ll even pay you a fair sum. If not, I’ll call the police right now and have you all arrested.”
“Hmph. Miss He, don’t waste your time. We have our rules. I won’t talk. If you have the guts, kill me,” Jiang Tailong replied, resolute, clearly unwilling to betray his employer.
“You…”
He Meixuan bit her lip, glaring coldly at him, her voice icy. “Fine. Since you refuse, I’ll call the police and have you all arrested.”
“As you wish.”
Jiang Tailong seemed to have something up his sleeve and showed no fear.
Chen Yufeng had no interest in wasting time here, especially since the arrival of the police would only bring him trouble. He’d have to cooperate with their investigation, which was far too much hassle.
Besides, the thirty thousand yuan he’d just extorted would likely have to be returned, and he wasn’t foolish enough for that.
So without further delay, Chen Yufeng left. He Meixuan was flustered, “Hey, how can you just leave? Can’t you stay a little longer? At least wait for the police to arrive!”
Chen Yufeng glanced back at her, shrugged, and replied with an air of indifference, “This is your business, not mine. Besides, that gentleman over there just gave me thirty thousand. By rights, I should be helping him, shouldn’t I?”
“You… how can you be so morally blind?”
“Say what you will. I’m leaving. Goodbye. Perhaps we’ll meet again.”
Chen Yufeng couldn’t care less; he’d already gone above and beyond by rescuing them. He had no time to meddle further.
“W-wait for us!”
Seeing this, He Meixuan and her friends hurried after him. With Chen Yufeng gone, who among them could stand up to those bald thugs? If they waited for the police, they might well fall back into the gang’s hands. Better to leave now.
He Meixuan had already taken precautions, recording Jiang Tailong and his men on her phone to hand over to her father later.
Jiang Tailong and his men, still writhing in pain from the earlier beating, couldn’t even get up off the ground, and could only watch helplessly as their adversaries departed.
Once Chen Yufeng and his group had left, Jiang Tailong suddenly shouted, “Friend, the world is round—may I have your name, so we might meet again?”
“Heh.”
Chen Yufeng stopped, turned his head with a faint smile, and said,
“They call me the Guardian of Beauties—Yu Linfeng.”
With that, he strode off with effortless grace, leaving only a noble silhouette behind.
“Yu Linfeng? Hmph, you arrogant bastard. We’ll see who has the last laugh!”
Watching Chen Yufeng and the others leave, Jiang Tailong and his men gnashed their teeth in fury, smoldering with humiliation.
They were used to bullying others, but it had been ages since anyone dared lay a finger on them. Today, on their own turf, they’d been beaten not once but twice, and forced to hand over thirty thousand yuan—failing to pull off even a minor job, ruining their own reputation.
Such a loss of face was intolerable in their world.
If they didn’t recover from this setback, how could they hope to maintain their standing in Ninghai?
A bald thug nearby muttered resentfully, “Brother Long, we lost out this time because we didn’t bring weapons. That kid got the better of us. Next time, I’ll turn him into a pincushion.”
“We can’t let him off easily. I’ll cut his tendons, make him a eunuch—let him beg for death. That’ll show him.”
The burly men, smarting from their defeat, were all in foul moods. Jiang Tailong was no different; he could hardly wait to skin Chen Yufeng alive.
He clenched his teeth, slammed his fist into the wall, and roared, “Find him! Double our manpower if need be. Dig up every inch of the city if you have to, but bring him to me…”
“Yes, Brother Long.”
As this gang plotted their revenge, Chen Yufeng, unbothered, settled back into Zhao Zijun’s BMW SUV.
Injured as he was, Zhao Zijun couldn’t drive, so He Meixuan took the wheel.
The atmosphere in the car had changed. The ordeal had left a deep impression on all three women; none of them had imagined that this seemingly ordinary man would possess such overwhelming strength.
Yet his character left much to be desired—he was, in truth, a slave to money.
No matter how Zhao Zijun looked at Chen Yufeng, he found him unbearable. If only he’d acted sooner, he might not have ended up beaten so badly—he’d be lucky to spend just a few days in the hospital.
Still, he took solace in the knowledge that he’d been injured for the woman he loved. Even in the hospital, he’d have her to care for him. In that sense, it was the perfect opportunity to deepen their relationship.
As for He Xiaoying, the pretty young woman, she didn’t even know how to describe Chen Yufeng. He was fierce, cunning, domineering, and cold—a combination of cool, handsome, wild, and unruly.
But above all, he was far too enamored with money, lacking in character.
After all, they were both beautiful women, yet he’d refused to help without a fee. He had no chivalrous spirit. Had he shown a bit more grace, perhaps the young lady would have been moved by his heroics and rewarded him with her heart.
Who knows—she might have truly offered herself to him!
