Chapter 139: A Clash of Titans
Ning Doudou and Xie Xin were among the crowd gathered to watch the commotion; they had followed the scene down from upstairs. Even though the suspect wore a large mask covering his face, they recognized him as Chen Yufeng. Watching the spectacle, Xie Xin said to Ning Doudou with a hint of schadenfreude, "My dear sister, I told you he wasn't reliable. Now that you've seen him arrested by the police with your own eyes, doesn't that prove my judgment of character is spot on?"
"Yes, it does," Ning Doudou agreed, nodding.
Xie Xin felt quite pleased and continued, "Look at this situation. Just as these people are saying, for the police to mobilize such a massive force to capture him, it means this piece of trash must have committed a monstrous crime. He must be utterly wicked."
"Sigh, I never expected that someone could be so deceptive..." Ning Doudou felt a chill at the thought.
"It’s a good thing I had the foresight to make you stop seeing him, right? Otherwise, the consequences would have been unthinkable."
"Mm, I never imagined he was such scum. It’s truly disappointing."
Ning Doudou felt conflicted. She knew Chen Yufeng had once been a street charlatan, but she hadn't expected him to be such a heinous criminal. Seeing the scale of the police operation, she didn't need to guess how grave his offenses were. As she pondered this, she couldn't help but glance at Chen Yufeng, thinking to herself, *I can't believe I actually shared meals with someone like you and was friends with you for a few days. This must be the greatest stain on my life.*
As Ning Doudou looked at him, Chen Yufeng caught her eye. Judging by the look of disgust on her face, it wasn't hard for him to see how repulsed she was. However, that was of no consequence to him.
"Withdraw!" Wang Lixin commanded, opting for a swift execution of the task. Following his order, over two hundred officers quickly boarded their vehicles and escorted the suspect away in a grand procession. The arrest had gone incredibly smoothly, just as expected. Anyone would be intimidated by such a display of force, making surrender the only sensible choice.
Wang Lixin was in a good mood. This was no ordinary arrest; it was a direct order from the head of the Kong family in the capital. He had not dared to be the slightest bit negligent, hence the massive mobilization. With the suspect now in custody, he finally felt a weight lift off his chest—his career was safe. Yet, the ease of the arrest left him with a vague, lingering sense of unease. He couldn't quite put his finger on it. Could the boy have escaped despite so much police presence? Impossible. Even if he had wings, he couldn't fly out of such a powerful dragnet.
...
Chen Yufeng spent one night in a holding cell. By eight o'clock the next morning, he was retrieved by the Kong family. They had arrived on a private jet, led personally by Kong Zehao, the brother of Kong Zetao. In fact, Kong Zehao’s team had arrived in Ninghai the previous night, but they had been entertained so hospitably that they hadn't rushed back. With the police guarding him, the condemned man had nowhere to run.
The jet soared through the sky, speeding toward the capital. By nearly noon, they arrived and landed on the helipad of the Kong family estate. After disembarking, Chen Yufeng was shoved into a black Mercedes-Benz sedan. His wrists were bound by four pairs of handcuffs, a black hood covered his head, and several men in black watched him closely. These men knew of Chen Yufeng’s reputation and dared not be careless. Yet, the entire journey—from the prison to the plane and then to the capital—had been suspiciously smooth, without a single incident. It reached a point where they began to wonder if this kid was really as formidable as rumored.
Everything was within Chen Yufeng’s expectations, so he cooperated fully. He knew he would soon face the head of the Kong family. As he sat in the car, he remained calm. Using his "clairvoyant" vision, the entire Kong estate lay clear before him. It was truly worthy of the Kong family; both the layout and scale were imposing. There were two or three hundred bodyguards alone, and over a hundred servants catering to the family. It wasn't a private estate; it was a miniature imperial palace. Their lifestyle was exactly that of ancient nobility.
This was the powerful, arrogant, and overbearing Kong family. No wonder their young masters were all so haughty and condescending; treated like princes from birth, they naturally looked down on ordinary people. To them, a commoner was likely worth less than a pedigree dog.
Meanwhile, the current head of the family, Kong Tianxiang, sat in the ancestral hall on a mahogany chair, eyes closed in meditation. Beside him sat a wooden box containing a thousand sharp blades. He had vowed to carve a thousand pieces out of the man who killed his son. Having received word from Kong Zehao that the enemy was captured, he prepared to use the man's blood to pay tribute to his fallen son.
Four or five minutes later, the Mercedes arrived at the ancestral hall. Chen Yufeng was dragged inside by bodyguards.
"All of you, get out."
"Yes, young master."
At Kong Zehao’s signal, the guards withdrew. The hall was now empty of outsiders. Kong Zehao removed Chen Yufeng’s hood and, without pleasantries, barked coldly, "Kneel!"
Chen Yufeng looked up with an indifferent expression and glanced away. "Bring your father to speak with me. You aren't qualified."
"Hmph, you’ve got guts, still mouthing off at death's door? Do you believe I’ll blow your head off right now?" Kong Zehao, feeling slighted, was so enraged he felt the urge to pull the trigger.
"If you want to kill me, just pull the trigger. Why are you so nervous? You look like a sissy. Are you even sure you have the guts to kill someone?"
"You're courting death..." Infuriated, Kong Zehao chambered a round, the cold muzzle pressing hard against Chen Yufeng’s temple. An ordinary person would have collapsed in fear, begging for mercy. Chen Yufeng, however, remained unfazed.
"Zehao, step aside," Kong Tianxiang said from his chair. He looked at his son and remarked, "Zehao, you should learn from this young man. Look at him—even at death's door, he remains so calm. Such composure is not simple!"
"Heh, what kind of crap composure is that?" Kong Zehao sneered, glancing at Chen Yufeng. "This guy just loves to put on a show, right to the grave."
Seeing the man who killed his son right before him, Kong Tianxiang also felt the urge to stab him, but he was in no rush. He wanted to see if this boy had truly eaten the liver of a dragon and the heart of a phoenix to dare provoke the Kong family. He walked up to Chen Yufeng, examining the young man in his twenties. He found nothing special, save for his unruffled, tranquil demeanor. Logically, someone in this position should feel a deep sense of crisis and the weight of impending death. Why was he so composed?
After staring for a dozen seconds, Kong Tianxiang asked with a dark face, "Did you kill my son?"
Chen Yufeng met Kong Tianxiang’s fierce, angry gaze and replied playfully, "Your son’s greatest honor in this life was being sent to the King of Hell by my own hands. As his father, you should be proud."
"Hmph, you suicidal fool," Kong Tianxiang snapped. He felt an inexplicable sense of unease. This was too unusual. Even high-ranking officials bowed their heads before his authority, yet this young man looked him straight in the eye without a shred of fear. He realized this man was indeed extraordinary. But he had seen too many arrogant people who thought themselves powerful.
"I admire your composure," Kong Tianxiang said, sneering, "but you cannot escape death today. Do you know he was a scion of the Kong family?"
"I know. So?"
"And you still dared to kill him? You really are emboldened." Kong Tianxiang’s eyes brimmed with murderous intent as he looked down at the foolhardy youth. "I don't know what forces stand behind you, but I can tell you clearly: no matter your background, you will die today. No one can save you."
