Chapter 120: The Heiress's Birthday Party
Inside the luxurious bedroom of the He family mansion, He Xiaoying was constantly trying on different outfits. Looking at her stunning reflection in the mirror, she flashed a narcissistic smile and turned to ask He Meixuan, “Sister Meixuan, which gown do you think I should wear? Oh my, I’m suffering from such choice paralysis! Everything looks so good, I’m even swooning over myself. Still, I need to pick the one that best highlights my temperament.”
“Whatever, they all look good,” He Meixuan replied distractedly, barely paying attention.
“How can you say ‘whatever’? It’s your twentieth birthday today! As your younger sister, I have to dress up properly. But really, Sister Meixuan, what’s the matter? Ever since you came back two days ago, you’ve seemed to have something on your mind.” He Xiaoying noticed something was off and couldn't help but voice her suspicion. As a girl herself, she knew that a girl only acted this way when she had someone special living in her heart.
“Do I? I don’t think so. You’re definitely overthinking it!”
“See, you’re still denying it! Are you smitten with some handsome guy? That can’t be right. Sister Meixuan, you must not fall for that. You have to maintain your pride! Besides, you and Brother Zijun are childhood sweethearts; he’s deeply devoted to you and wouldn’t hesitate to risk his life for you. You can’t do anything to let him down.”
“Xiaoying, stop talking nonsense. There’s nothing between him and me.”
“Sigh, ‘the unattainable is always restless, and the favored are always fearless.’ I don’t blame you—it’s the privilege of a beauty. I’m beautiful and lonely, so when will my Prince Charming appear?”
“You child, stop talking nonsense and focus on your studies,” He Meixuan said, pinching her cheek. *You’re right, though,* she thought, *I have fallen a little.*
Thinking of that god-like man, a look of pure adoration appeared on He Meixuan’s face. She checked her phone, hesitated for a moment, and finally sent a WeChat message…
*Ding—*
At the same time, Chen Yufeng, who was lying on his bed playing with his phone, suddenly received a message.
He Meixuan: "Divine one, do you have time tonight? (Smiley face)"
Chen Yufeng: "Don't ask me out, I'm a busy man. (Smug face)"
He Meixuan: "Oh. (Pouting face)"
Chen Yufeng: "Is there something up? (Confused face)"
He Meixuan: "It’s my twentieth birthday tonight. I’m throwing a party and wanted to invite you to come and have fun. (Winking face)"
Chen Yufeng: "Alright."
He Meixuan: "Romanti Nightclub. Be there before eight! (Happy face)"
Chen Yufeng: "OK."
Chen Yufeng thought the girl was decent enough, and since she’d gone out of her way to invite him, he couldn’t really refuse. Besides, he had nothing better to do, so he agreed.
By six or seven in the evening, Chen Yufeng rode a very flashy bicycle toward the Romanti Nightclub. This wasn’t an ordinary bike; he had spent five points to exchange for it in the Divine Disk Mall. Its quality was absolutely superb, forged from some unknown material that was much harder than standard steel. It felt amazing to ride, and he sped along, looking incredibly cool.
At the Romanti Nightclub, things were exceptionally lively today. The venue had been bought out for the night, and the person who had done so was none other than the owner of the establishment, He Shihao. A grand birthday party was underway. As a famous tycoon in Ninghai, He Shihao naturally wanted his precious daughter’s twentieth birthday to be a spectacular affair.
Following He Meixuan’s wishes, the main hall had been specially decorated with a "Starry Sky" theme. The layout perfectly captured this concept; stepping into the hall felt like walking through the vast expanse of the cosmos. It was a marvelous experience.
It was only 7:30 PM, but a dance troupe was already performing to entertain the guests. Invited guests were arriving one after another, and the hall was filled with men and women in stylish evening wear, mingling and clinking glasses. The hall was massive, easily capable of accommodating over a thousand people, and was equipped with all sorts of entertainment facilities. In the center was a large dance floor, surrounded by high-end tables and chairs for dining.
When Chen Yufeng arrived at the entrance of Romanti on his bike at about 7:40 PM, he followed the directions of the security guard managing the parking and parked his bike at the very edge of the lot.
“Yo, isn’t this the great fighter? What’s this, riding a bicycle here? Couldn't find a decent car to drive?”
Before Chen Yufeng had even finished parking, he heard a voice clearly dripping with mockery. Looking up, he saw a handsome face he recognized: Zhao Zijun.
Zhao Zijun was dressed in a blue suit and looked quite dashing. Seeing the guy looking down on him, Chen Yufeng didn’t get angry; he just gave him a calm glance and couldn't be bothered to respond.
“Sigh, I’m curious. How did you end up coming to Meixuan’s birthday party? Do you even have an invitation?” Zhao Zijun was annoyed; he didn’t think Meixuan was that close to this guy.
“It’s a friend’s birthday party. What’s the problem with me coming?” Chen Yufeng looked at him with annoyance.
“Right, sure, sure.” Zhao Zijun chuckled with a knowing look. “Meixuan is beautiful and comes from a good family, so she’s naturally popular. But I’d like to remind you: don’t get any ideas about her. She’s the leading lady tonight, and I’m the leading man. Do you understand what that means?”
“What does that have to do with me? I’m just parking my bike, and you come over here yapping at me. What do you want?” Chen Yufeng was losing his patience.
Zhao Zijun glanced at him impatiently. “I’m just warning you to know your place and back off.”
“Do you listen to too many imaginary rival tropes? You think everyone is your love rival?” Chen Yufeng was speechless. It seemed this guy was a loyal protector of He Meixuan—but she was the one who had invited him, wasn't she?
“Anyway, I’ve said my piece. I hope you don’t embarrass yourself further, got it?” After this final warning, Zhao Zijun couldn’t be bothered to say more and walked into the club.
Chen Yufeng shook his head in silence and prepared to head inside after locking his bike. Just then, a flashy, silver BMW sports car came speeding toward the lot. It looked like it intended to park right there, but because it was going too fast, it overshot while braking and slammed directly into Chen Yufeng’s bicycle, sending it flying.
