Chapter 85: The Rather Useless Supercomputer

Old Li was still a man who cared about his reputation. His views might be old-fashioned, but it was enough that he was aware of them himself; the young people didn’t need to know. He knew Qingxue’s age, but since Qingxue looked young and called him Uncle Li, he subconsciously ignored her actual age and regarded her as a peer of Yunyang.

“My little granddaughter is sure to be clever and adorable. I’ve thought of a name: how about Xiaoxue?” Old Li glanced at Qingxue as he spoke, as if seeking her opinion.

When Qingxue heard that her niece’s name would have the character for “snow” in it, she thought perhaps the little girl would be even closer to her in the future. She looked at Old Li with a hint of joy and said, “Yunxue, what a lovely name. Uncle Li, you’re so good at naming children.”

Yunyang stood to the side, listening as the two easily settled on the name of his unborn daughter. He couldn’t help but feel a wave of exasperation and tried to interject.

“I think it’s too soon to have kids. Earth isn’t even at peace yet.”

But neither of them heard him—or perhaps pretended not to. Neither paid him any mind.

Seeing that he was being ignored, Yunyang pouted helplessly and raised his voice, “Enough, you two! I don’t want kids yet.”

This time, they couldn’t keep pretending not to hear. Both turned to look at him. Old Li spoke first.

“So you want to deny me a grandchild, is that it? Careful, or I’ll shoot you where you stand.”

Qingxue said nothing, but the resentful look in her eyes was impossible for Yunyang to dodge.

Old Li didn’t know his own situation, and Yunyang could understand that. But Qingxue, you know what’s going on—what’s with that look? Enough already. Of course, these thoughts stayed in Yunyang’s mind; he didn’t dare voice them.

He had no choice but to stand up. Under Old Li’s surprised gaze, he walked onto the table—though it was more like merging into it.

Old Li couldn’t stay seated any longer. When Yunyang’s body began to emit light, Old Li had assumed it was some special ability. After all, he didn’t understand much about super soldiers. But what was happening now? He couldn’t help but exclaim in surprise.

“Are you turning into a ghost? What about my grandson?”

Clearly, Old Li’s only concern was still his beloved grandchild, not Yunyang’s transformation.

“Uncle, aren’t you worried about the wrong thing?” Yunyang replied, covering his face.

“Ahem, so what’s happening to you?” Old Li coughed and walked around the table, observing Yunyang.

“I...”

“Yunyang is about to ascend to godhood,” Qingxue explained succinctly before Yunyang could finish, though she didn’t elaborate—it would be too troublesome to explain in detail.

“Oh, so that’s what it looks like to become a god? Well, couldn’t you have given me a grandson first?” Old Li clicked his tongue, then grumbled in annoyance.

Yunyang, seeing the subject wasn’t going away, simply fell silent.

When Yunyang said nothing, Old Li took the hint and changed the subject at the right moment.

By the time Yunyang and Qingxue left, her cheeks were flushed, while Yunyang wore a pained expression. He had sat there for over an hour, watching as Old Li and Qingxue enjoyed their meal. Old Li, meanwhile, kept urging Yunyang to drink and took every opportunity to ask Qingxue whether she liked anyone, or if she was about to ascend as well.

From Old Li’s point of view, Yunyang couldn’t be counted on in his current state. He might as well see if Qingxue could give him an external grandchild—a grandchild is a grandchild, after all.

Looking at the slightly bashful Qingxue, Yunyang couldn’t resist teasing her. He said, “Qingxue, when will you bring me a little niece? I’ve already picked out a name.”

But as soon as Yunyang finished, Qingxue’s face—previously tinged with red—returned to normal. She replied, “A niece? Just wait and see.”

As Qingxue flew off, Yunyang shook his head and hurried to catch up.

Before long, the two arrived at Tianblade Seven. Qingxue had suggested that Yunyang could use Tianblade Seven’s supercomputer to accelerate his upgrade process, and Yunyang, agreeable as always, accepted.

Ever since Ge Xiaolun got his hands on Yunyang’s King Sword, he’d become utterly enamored with it, carrying it everywhere and ignoring the affairs of Heaven and Earth. He even tried to test it against his own Void Greatsword. The result left him dumbfounded: his Void Greatsword snapped clean in half.

Looking at the King Sword in his hand, then at his broken Void Greatsword, Ge Xiaolun was nearly in tears. He knew perfectly well how special the King Sword was—so why had he been so reckless? It looked like the Void Greatsword was out of commission. Should he just keep the King Sword for himself?

As for Yunyang, Ge Xiaolun figured that wasn’t his concern. After all, Yunyang couldn’t use it right now and wouldn’t come looking for it, so he might as well keep using it. At least now he’d have a weapon. Ge Xiaolun consoled himself: he wouldn’t take more than he was given. Now, if only a cute puppy would show up—he’d feed it something tasty.

If Yunyang knew Ge Xiaolun had broken his own sword, he’d laugh out loud. But if he knew what Ge Xiaolun was thinking, he’d surely curse him for being less than human.

Soon, the two arrived at Tianblade. Qingxue immediately took Yunyang to find Azui and explained his intentions. Azui considered it and agreed, but needed to get Ge Xiaolun’s consent.

Yunyang didn’t think this was an issue and tried to contact Ge Xiaolun through a private channel. But after several attempts with no answer, his face grew slightly stormy.

Ge Xiaolun, seeing Yunyang’s call, instantly felt guilty—afraid Yunyang was asking for the King Sword. He’d only just decided to keep it, hadn’t even come up with a good excuse yet, and now Yunyang was calling.

As Yunyang kept calling, Ge Xiaolun eventually realized he couldn’t put it off forever. After all, this was the fifth time—if he didn’t answer, Yunyang would show up in person.

“Hello, Xiaolun, can you hear me? Do you know what time it is? Why are you still in bed?” As soon as Ge Xiaolun answered, he was greeted by Yunyang’s angry shout.

Hearing this, Ge Xiaolun realized Yunyang was a good guy—he’d even provided an excuse for ignoring the calls. So, following Yunyang’s lead, he put on a just-awoken voice and said, “Huh? What time is it? What’s up?”

Yunyang briefly explained his reason for calling and, contrary to Ge Xiaolun’s fears, didn’t mention the King Sword at all. With a grand gesture, Ge Xiaolun declared that Yunyang could use Tianblade as he pleased—it was just sitting there anyway.

“Alright, I’ll hang up then,” Yunyang said, after getting Ge Xiaolun’s agreement.

“Wait, wait, Yangzi—no, Brother Yang, I have something to ask,” Ge Xiaolun said anxiously.

“What is it?” Yunyang asked, puzzled.

“Yangzi, since I’m letting you use Tianblade, and you can’t use the King Sword right now, can I keep using it for a while?” Ge Xiaolun asked ingratiatingly.

“Fine. I’ll extend your permissions. Actually, I’ll just send you the access codes. Use it as you like,” Yunyang agreed, thinking Ge Xiaolun had a point.

Hearing Yunyang’s reply, Ge Xiaolun’s eyes lit up. That easy? Overjoyed, he replied, “Great, Yangzi, you’re so generous.”

Ge Xiaolun was utterly delighted. He’d never expected happiness to come so easily. He hadn’t realized his previous access to the King Sword was only temporary—he’d thought he could use it as he liked. Without Yunyang’s permission, he couldn’t have kept it. But now, with the password sent, everything else was unimportant.

With the password in hand, Ge Xiaolun learned all the King Sword’s abilities. There were only three: absorbing stellar energy, Tianblade Judgment, and One Slash, Two Halves. Ge Xiaolun realized it was a high-end version of the Blazing Sword; the last ability seemed like an afterthought. But none of that mattered—as long as it worked.

Meanwhile, at Tianblade, Yunyang informed Azui that Ge Xiaolun had authorized him. Azui, satisfied, took Yunyang to the supercomputer center, where the Kayla database projection appeared.

Azui explained their purpose, and the projection accepted the command, leading Yunyang to a platform.

“If you want to use most of Tianblade’s computing power, you’ll have to connect here unless you have first-level clearance,” Azui explained, seeing Yunyang’s confusion.

“What should I do?” Yunyang nodded, indicating his understanding.

“I’ll try to link to your gene engine. Just explain yourself,” Kayla’s projection said.

As soon as Kayla finished, Yunyang received a prompt from his gene engine.

An external supercomputer requests access to your engine. Accept or decline...

“Accept,” Yunyang replied without a second thought.

As soon as he answered, he heard Kayla’s gentle laughter beside him. He was puzzled and glanced at her.

Kayla noticed and understood his confusion, explaining, “Do you always talk to your gene engine out loud? Sorry, I couldn’t help it.”

“Well, it’s my first time linking to a supercomputer—just a rookie mistake,” Yunyang replied, embarrassed.

Kayla laughed again, but seeing Yunyang’s blue face flush slightly, she didn’t tease him further. She flickered and disappeared.

Yunyang felt a little better and let his consciousness slip into the shadow dimension. As soon as he arrived, he heard the gene engine’s voice:

Tianblade supercomputer linked...
Access limited to computing power only...
Computing power boost granted...

Yunyang understood why only the computing power was available, but that was enough for him. He immediately began high-speed calculations.

Before long, Yunyang stared at the data from the gene engine in disbelief. Even with the supercomputer, the time required was only halved—from six months to three. This supercomputer was a little disappointing.
