Chapter Eighty-Four: The New Deity
Chapter 84: The New God
In the end, the drinking plans fell through—after all, you can't expect someone who can't even hold a cup to drink with you. Wouldn't that just mean watching you drink alone? Who could enjoy that?
After parting ways with Zhao Xin, Yunyang once again found himself idle, but to his surprise, Qingxue came to seek him out. She had finished her duty the day before and had today off, so with nothing to do, she decided to drag Yunyang along to visit Old Li. Because Yunyang had been grievously wounded and on the brink of death, Old Li had been very worried but, for some special reason, hadn't gone to see him in person.
However, he did talk with Qingxue about Yunyang's condition. Originally, Qingxue planned to visit with Yunyang once he was recovered, but with Rose's arrival, she decided not to disturb them. She merely mentioned it to Old Li, who grinned from ear to ear, almost unable to contain his delight, convinced that he would soon have a grandchild. He even reminded Qingxue not to interrupt the pair.
Qingxue herself began to imagine the possibility of having a little niece to dote on. Given Yunyang and Rose's looks, their child would no doubt be an adorable, delicately sculpted cherub. Why a niece and not a nephew? Because in the Angelic Civilization, there are no males; in Qingxue's mind, boys simply didn't exist—at least, not yet.
"Yunyang, are you there?" Before they even arrived, Qingxue was already calling out his name.
Yunyang, bored to the point of counting the photons on his hand, immediately heard her voice and leapt to his feet. Qingxue had come for him—he could finally go out and have some fun.
"I'm here!" he shouted, flying up into the air, afraid Qingxue might leave if she didn't hear him.
"I'm off duty today—let's visit Uncle Li," Qingxue called back, spotting Yunyang glowing with a blue light. She paused, clearly puzzled by his current state, but quickly explained her purpose.
"I thought you came just to see me. Turns out I'm only an afterthought," Yunyang replied, imitating Zhao Xin's wounded expression.
Qingxue, confused by his words, looked at him with a sweet, innocent expression. "I am here to see you!"
"Then what about Old Li?" Yunyang, seeing her expression, wondered if he had misjudged her, but pressed on.
"I'm here to take you to see Uncle Li," Qingxue replied as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
Yunyang covered his face, feeling foolish for assuming Qingxue had come just for him. Thinking back, it was always him seeking her out; his own assumptions had blinded him to the truth.
"Alright, let's go," he said, despite his swirling thoughts, without missing a beat.
At his words, Qingxue reached out to grab him, but just as Yunyang was about to protest, her hand passed straight through his body.
Qingxue was startled. She circled him in shock, uncertain. "An illusionary form? No, you're glowing—phosphorescent state?"
"No, no," Yunyang quickly explained, not wanting her to overthink. "I've activated a new permission—I'm upgrading."
"Will it be like this after the upgrade?" Qingxue, first nodding, then suddenly anxious, asked urgently.
Now she was genuinely flustered. If she couldn't even touch Yunyang's body, how was she supposed to have that little niece? Could it be that she... Qingxue felt her cheeks heat up.
Yunyang, seeing her blush, was completely baffled. Why was she embarrassed now, talking about his body? Still, he answered her.
"After the upgrade, I'll be back to normal—just stronger."
"How strong?" Qingxue, recovering from her embarrassment and rubbing her flushed cheeks, lowered her head and asked softly, worried he might notice her discomfort.
Yunyang could see she was shy, but didn't say anything. He explained his post-upgrade state, though he couldn't quite define how strong he would become.
After hearing him out, Qingxue tapped her chin thoughtfully. "Isn't that a divine body? You're about to ascend to godhood."
Fearing Yunyang might not understand, she clarified, "A divine body is one that's freed from the limits of mortal death, able to survive on energy alone—that is what makes a god."
"I know that," Yunyang replied without thinking.
"What? How do you know? Did someone tell you?" Qingxue asked, puzzled.
Yunyang paused. That's true—who had told him? No one, really. He couldn't exactly say he learned it in the Super Seminary. His mind raced, and he finally decided, "Rose told me. She went with Liang Bing to upgrade to a divine body."
He had enough sense not to mention Morgana's name in front of Qingxue, an Angel.
Sure enough, Qingxue, assuming Liang Bing was just someone from Earth, nodded. "I see."
As the daughter of Dukao, the old monster of ten thousand years, it wasn't strange for Rose to know about divine bodies.
Suddenly, Qingxue remembered why she had come. "Let's hurry and find Uncle Li."
Demon One, Laboratory.
Rose stood inside, uneasily surveying the silver walls. She figured this was probably the only white place on Demon One; everywhere else was either black or red—not her taste. Yet, the lab made her uncomfortable as well.
Outside, Liang Bing and the assembled demons were deep in conversation.
"My Queen, Rose hasn't joined our demons. Why waste such precious resources on her?" Atto asked, barely hiding his discontent.
Many demons nodded in agreement. Though their Queen was the Supreme God, the Demon Civilization was the home of all demons, and they cared for its future.
Morgana clearly understood their thoughts. As a god who cherished her followers, she explained, "Don't you trust your Queen? Space Rose is my greatest creation. I know very well the extent of her potential."
"But—"
"No buts. This is an investment, just as the Angels invested in the Power of the Galaxy. I am doing this for the future of our Demon Civilization," Morgana declared, her tone both righteous and sincere.
Because of Yunyang, Rose had learned in advance that Liang Bing was actually the Demon Queen, depriving Morgana of the chance to bond with her. Now, Rose was using the demons to enhance herself, while Morgana sought to tie her to their cause through mutual interest.
With the Queen's words, the demons could only bow their heads and agree. She was, after all, the spiritual pillar and anchor of their entire civilization.
Morgana looked at Atto, her eyes filled with a hint of satisfaction. Her loyal warrior was finally beginning to think for himself, taking the first steps toward becoming a decision-maker, not just an executor. Though the odds were slim, Morgana was willing to wait and give him the chance. With Holy Kaisa gone, no more angelic swords hanging over their heads, the demons needed time to heal and more thinkers to lead them toward a brighter future.
Putting aside her thoughts, she turned to Rose, who was nervously waiting in the lab. "Rose, everything's ready here. How about your side?"
Hearing Morgana's words, Rose flashed an 'OK' sign to those outside.
With Rose's confirmation, the entire lab became ethereal. Tiny wormholes appeared throughout, bringing forth materials both familiar and unfamiliar to Rose. These were then broken down by energy into particles too small to see with the naked eye.
Next, they assembled into minuscule dark matter computers, integrating into every atom of Rose's body, transforming her into a divine being who could survive on energy alone. When this process was complete, the known universe would have a new god—a god of space.
As the man of this newly born deity, Yunyang was, at that moment, listening to Old Li’s endless chatter.
"Yun brat, listen to me. When you have a child, you must let me be the god-grandfather, understand?" Old Li said sternly.
Yunyang's face darkened. What was this about? There wasn’t even a shadow of such a thing yet!
But Old Li misread his expression, assuming Yunyang was unwilling. He stood up, his eyes wide with mock rage. "If you won’t let me acknowledge my god-grandchild, we’ll pretend we never met. We’ll be strangers!"
Sensing Old Li's irritation, Yunyang hurried to explain. "Uncle, don’t worry. I never said no!"
Hearing his agreement, Old Li’s angry face bloomed into a radiant smile, like a chrysanthemum in full flower.
Yunyang realized he'd been set up and could only sigh in resignation. Old Li hadn’t even asked why he’d turned into a being of blue light, only cared about the god-grandchild.
"Yun brat, when will you bring me my precious grandchild? I’ll name him myself—I’ve already thought of a few. Give him my name, and he’ll grow up to be a real man," Old Li said, beaming.
At that moment, a soft voice interjected, "What if it’s a girl?"
At once, Old Li’s radiant face turned awkward. He hadn’t considered a girl’s name—he had already mapped out his grandchild’s path: a military career. But how could a girl join the army? Because of his age, Old Li still clung to some old-fashioned notions.
