Chapter Sixty-Two: Am I Beautiful?
Chapter Sixty-Two: Am I Beautiful?
“Tomboy, could it be that you’re experiencing the stirrings of spring? You seem awfully invested in this.”
Watching Keisha busying herself in the laboratory for two days straight, He Xi couldn’t help but ask.
“Hm? He Xi, you’re here. Come, help me with this. The genetic engineering in Heaven City was always your specialty.”
Hearing someone enter, and realizing it was He Xi, Keisha ignored her latter words, turning instead with a request for assistance.
“Hah? That won’t work. He’s not an angel; without angel genes, there’s no way to attach these wings.”
Covering her face, He Xi felt certain that Keisha was lovesick for that man.
“How would we know if we don’t try?” Keisha wasn’t bothered at all by He Xi’s objection, responding instead with a question.
“You’re hopeless. Don’t you think he’s too young?”
He Xi walked to Keisha’s side, pursing her lips before suddenly speaking.
Turning, Keisha looked at He Xi, who seemed a bit conflicted, and for a moment didn’t know what to say. She reached out and tapped He Xi lightly on the head.
Rubbing her little head, He Xi glared at Keisha with puffed cheeks.
“This body was remade for me by him. Maybe I did take over a nest that wasn’t mine, but a favor is a favor—it must be repaid.”
Looking at her friend of thirty thousand years, now deliberately acting cute, Keisha felt a slight chill, but explained helplessly.
He Xi gave her a look that said, “You’re always right, but I don’t believe you,” tilting her head and pouting: “Hmph.”
“Be good, just help me this once.”
Keisha pulled her petulant friend over to the workstation, coaxing her like a child.
“I already gave him the King’s Sword. Isn’t that enough? I don’t buy it.”
Despite her words, He Xi obediently began working at the console.
They toiled for an entire day. As He Xi gazed at the pair of pristine wings floating above the printer, she stretched lazily, her flat stomach exposed.
If a man were present, he would surely fantasize about a wonderful future with her, perhaps even naming their children already.
But unfortunately, only Keisha was present—and she was a woman.
“All done?” Keisha asked expectantly, watching He Xi adjust her clothes.
“Am I beautiful?” He Xi replied, answering a question with a question, full of anticipation.
“Beautiful,” Keisha affirmed without hesitation.
“Not even a little tempted?” He Xi struck a pose, her expression inviting, gently adjusting her clothes to reveal her rounded shoulder, looking at Keisha expectantly.
Keisha stared blankly at He Xi, surprised by her words. After working together for over twenty thousand years, Keisha knew He Xi liked being close to her.
She had always thought it was just the deep affection between sisters. Given her own dominant personality and style, it was understandable that she might attract admiration from women—hence the nickname “tomboy.”
But now, faced with He Xi’s sudden display, Keisha realized He Xi’s feelings might not be what she’d thought. She needed to set things straight.
Regaining her composure, Keisha’s expression remained unchanged as she replied calmly, “No.”
This simple, flat answer immediately snapped He Xi out of her emotional state. She hastily adjusted her clothes, coughing twice to cover her embarrassment.
By now, He Xi was furiously pounding a certain silver-haired plushie in her mind. How had she lost control all of a sudden? Ah! How embarrassing!
Could it be that Keisha’s previous absence had saddened her so much that, upon seeing this tomboy again, she couldn’t contain her feelings?
But it was truly mortifying. Would Keisha avoid her from now on? She had to remedy this.
“I was only joking. Look, the wings are finished.”
He Xi didn’t dare meet Keisha’s eyes, shifting the topic to her latest accomplishment.
Seeing He Xi’s downcast demeanor, Keisha shook her head in amusement. She could guess what He Xi was thinking—just trying to avoid further embarrassment by changing the subject.
“Let me see. Tell me about it,” Keisha said considerately, following He Xi’s lead for the sake of her dignity.
Relieved that Keisha wasn’t upset, He Xi put on a serious scientist’s expression.
“Based on our Wings of Spacetime, I re-encoded and modified the permissions so they can be re-equipped without altering their effect. However, angel genes are still required to use them.
This is a low-level permission. Modifying the core would be too troublesome—the base code dates back to the days of the Celestial Palace, and changing it would be a massive undertaking.”
Listening to her, Keisha considered for a moment before responding.
“It’s fine. Angel genes are easy to obtain. Doesn’t Earth have backups of the Gene of Galactic Force? We can use those.”
He Xi casually collected the Wings of Spacetime that didn’t yet belong to Yun Yang, transforming them into a transparent diamond-shaped crystal, inside which a chibi pair of wings slowly rotated.
Then, with anticipation, she suggested, “No rush—let’s go have some tea.”
“Wait, let me contact Yun Yang.”
Putting down his gun, Yun Yang gestured to Old Li, who was showing off his skills nearby, to indicate he was taking a call, and stepped aside.
“Hello? Who is this?”
Yun Yang’s secret communication was nothing fancy—just a voice call.
“Kid, it’s me.”
Though the caller didn’t give a name, Yun Yang instantly recognized the familiar voice.
“Keisha? The Heaven’s Blade has already arrived on Earth, don’t worry.”
“Do you think I don’t know the Heaven’s Blade has landed safely?” Keisha replied, exasperated.
“Hm? Then why are you calling me? I’m telling you, I just got to Earth and I’m not here to sightsee.”
Yun Yang feared she’d ask him to look for resources again; on the way back, he’d encountered many materials rare for the God-making civilization.
There was even a fair amount of Obsidian Ore—Keisha had once instructed him to take the angels to mine it.
Yun Yang remembered that very clearly, though he really didn’t want to go.
Keisha, hearing his words, fell silent, then decided to get straight to the point.
“Do you want the wings or not? If not, I’ll throw them out.”
“Wings? Of course I want them! Sis—no, Queen, love you to death. If you ever want to travel, just call me—your personal chauffeur, villa included.”
The moment he heard he’d get wings, Yun Yang shamelessly laid it on thick.
As a ground unit, space environments were just too unfriendly for him.
Ignoring Yun Yang’s flattery, Keisha replied evenly, “Get a backup of the Gene of Galactic Force and come to Heaven City to have the wings installed.”
“Got it!”
As soon as Yun Yang agreed, Keisha hung up, silently remarking that he never did anything without expecting something in return.
Left staring at his communicator, Yun Yang blinked in confusion. Backup of the Gene of Galactic Force? What’s that? Could I just draw some of Ge Xiao Lun’s blood?
He’d have to ask Xiao Lun tomorrow. As the bearer of the Galactic Force, he should know. Having made up his mind, Yun Yang stopped worrying about the gene backup.
Returning to Old Li’s side, Yun Yang heard him speak.
“Yun, and Qingxue—how about a target shooting contest, the three of us?”
Before Yun Yang, who was hopeless at shooting, could speak, Qingxue cut in.
“Uncle Li, I’m afraid I can’t. Defending the nation isn’t my calling—angels uphold justice and order.”
“No problem, no problem. Anyone with a heart for justice can use one. You angels may not be human, but you’re close enough—it’ll work.”
Old Li, playfully insistent, wasn’t about to let her back out.
“Uncle, are you insulting us now?” Yun Yang seized on his words, teasingly.
“Ahem, Qingxue, that’s not what I meant.” Reminded by Yun Yang, Old Li realized his words might have sounded offensive and explained awkwardly.
“I know what you meant, Uncle Li.” Qingxue nodded sweetly, shooting Yun Yang a glare.
“You rascal, you’re asking for it.” Annoyed, Old Li gave Yun Yang a kick.
“Trying to silence me, are you!” Yun Yang yelped dramatically, rubbing his—completely unhurt—backside.
Half an hour later, both Yun Yang and Old Li were staring in disbelief at Qingxue. After missing her first few shots, she hit bullseye with every following round, and the wooden targets remained unbroken.
“You’re using a cheat, aren’t you?” Yun Yang declared, convinced.
“There’s no such thing,” Qingxue retorted, pouting.
“Angels really are impressive,” Old Li remarked, part surprised, part resigned.
After thinking it over, Old Li accepted it—Qingxue was an angel, after all; it was only natural she’d be exceptional.
Having confirmed her denial, Yun Yang glanced at her target, each bullseye pierced by a single hole, then at Old Li’s pile of shattered targets.
Finally, he looked at his own, where the sandbags behind were riddled with holes and only one target was broken. He concluded that this wasn’t for him.
Looking defeated, Yun Yang tossed the gun onto the table. “This just isn’t for me.”
“A soldier who can’t shoot? I, Old Li, can’t afford that disgrace. Come here, I’ll teach you.”
Seeing Yun Yang so dejected, Old Li barked in frustration.
He picked up the gun Yun Yang had just set down and called him over, ready to give a demonstration.
Patiently, he explained the basics of aiming.
But Yun Yang insisted he already knew—all the theory, just couldn’t hit the mark. Not his fault.
Old Li was nearly driven to fury. What, it’s not your problem but the gun’s?
Incensed, Old Li decided to show Yun Yang how it was done, calming himself for the best performance.
He handled the rifle with the precision of a sniper, leaving both Yun Yang and Qingxue watching in awe.
