Chapter Twenty-Six: The World's Acknowledgment
Chapter Twenty-Six: The Recognition of the World
Rose took Xiao Yi out from the shadow realm, stared at her for a while. Xiao Yi seemed to sense something as well, greeted Rose through the screen and asked, “Sister Rose, is something wrong? Did you need me for something?”
“No, just checking the time,” Rose replied, her gaze fixed on Xiao Yi. Unconsciously, her thoughts drifted towards Yun Yang, and she gave a perfunctory excuse.
Xiao Yi sensed Rose’s indifference, reported the current time, and then disappeared from the screen.
Now, Yun Yang had been taken away by Pan Zhen, whereabouts unknown; Rose couldn’t reach Reina, and even less so Pan Zhen, so she had no idea whether Yun Yang—the only boy who ever tucked her in—had woken up.
As for Yun Yang, whom Rose missed, he was already nearing North Star. That last battle had forced the Gluttonous Commander to change tactics, no longer deliberately provoking the super warriors. Old Li, eager to support North Star, didn’t bother to seek trouble with the Gluttonous either, so their journey was swift.
Meanwhile, Ge Xiaolun, now equipped with the Void Controller, was contemplating a decapitation operation.
After a night writhing in pain on his bed, Ge Xiaolun finally recovered and immediately began upgrading his weaponry. The Chinese forces had suffered too many losses due to inferior equipment—take the War of Resistance against Japan, or the Korean War, for example; each victory came from steadfast will despite crude weapons.
But now, with spirit intact and equipment ready for improvement, why not upgrade? Unlike Yun Yang, Ge Xiaolun’s upgrade involved designing an entirely new model, while Yun Yang strengthened his existing weapons. Yun Yang’s version was potent but impossible to mass-produce, whereas Ge Xiaolun’s, once the technology was mastered, could be manufactured on a large scale.
After discussions and preparations, Ge Xiaolun’s team was ready to depart.
Yun Yang, too, had arrived at North Star. They weren’t the first unit to enter, but theirs was the most complete formation—forty thousand soldiers, with over thirty-four thousand more in the ranks. Other units, to even get here, needed at least half to two-thirds of their numbers, so it was something to be proud of.
Following the convoy into North Star, Yun Yang received a system task.
Task Name: Recognition of the World
Task Description: Gain the approval of the national will.
Explanation: As an outsider stepping onto this land, you need the endorsement of its masters. Fight for your kin and compatriots.
Task Reward: 1 Destiny Point
Yun Yang already knew what a Destiny Point was—just a password, really, dressed up with a grand name to fool people.
This was the first time a complete unit arrived at North Star. Old Li and Yun Yang received a warm welcome from the Supreme Command, though there was no banquet, just a simple meal in a courtyard. After all, it was wartime, and everything was kept simple.
Moreover, the Supreme Command now recognized Yun Yang as a new super warrior, officially transferring him from Old Li’s command to the Xiongbing Company, directly under the Supreme Command’s orders.
After dinner, the Elder learned that a new super warrior had emerged and showed great interest. Yun Yang was granted an audience, as he had hoped.
Upon meeting the Elder, Yun Yang found him to be a kind, handsome middle-aged gentleman. After Yun Yang’s passionate speech, the Elder was impressed by Yun Yang’s support from the masses and love for his homeland, and thus recognized him, completing Yun Yang’s task. When Yun Yang left, the Elder told his secretary, “Little Yun is a promising seed. We’re getting old. The great ideals of the masses must be passed on to young people like him. I sense his love for the people and the country. Very good, I’m very satisfied.”
The secretary silently swallowed his words. He had intended to report Yun Yang’s odd background—only what the unit had submitted, and no record of him in Shandong. But since the Elder had spoken, declaring him excellent, then he must indeed be excellent.
He quietly went to fill in Yun Yang’s identity, even assigning him deceased parents. Yun Yang knew nothing of this. He was happily back in his assigned courtyard, lying in bed, ready to unlock the next layer of genetic permissions.
He sat up, wasted no time, and used the Destiny Point he had just earned. Suddenly, his body froze, his mind went blank, and he fainted.
Within Yun Yang’s shadow realm, a flurry of activity erupted.
Requesting permission to activate Genetic Engine...
Genetic Engine permission activating, matching genetic key...
Genetic key detected...
Genetic key matching...
Genetic key matched successfully...
Unlocking Genetic Engine permission...
Requesting permission to unlock Destiny Lever...
Estimated unlock time: 6 hours...
When Yun Yang awoke, it was early the next morning. He hurried into the shadow realm to check what new permissions he had unlocked, but found nothing seemed different. He asked, “What new permissions have been unlocked? Tell me.”
“Greetings, Quantum Master. The third-level permission, Destiny Lever, is now active.”
“What is that? What can it do?”
“It significantly reduces the energy consumption when using engine abilities...”
After listening to the explanation, Yun Yang understood the third-level permission: Destiny Lever—change fate through knowledge, hence the name. The more he understood, the less energy he’d use, essentially forcing him to become a scholar.
After fully grasping the third-level permission, Yun Yang was about to go out for a walk when Angel Qingxue arrived and said, “Yun Yang, there are several angels stationed here at North Star. I want to find them; can you help me?”
Yun Yang had no tasks at the moment, so he agreed, curious to see North Star’s current condition.
Walking along the pothole-ridden road, all he saw on either side were buildings ruined by shelling, and luggage and cars abandoned during emergency evacuations.
Finally, the two spotted a dazzling firework—the explosion of a Gluttonous escort ship. Yun Yang was the only super warrior at North Star, so it couldn’t be his doing; it must have been the angels.
Angel Qingxue spread her wings, carrying Yun Yang to the scene. Sure enough, atop the highest roof, four angels were chatting. Sensing someone approaching, they all looked up at Qingxue and Yun Yang.
Once the two landed, one angel rushed forward, grabbed Qingxue’s hand, and exclaimed, “Qingxue, is it really you? You’re alive, that’s wonderful! I saw three demons chasing you last time.”
Qingxue replied proudly, “Breeze, I killed those demons instead! Impressive, isn’t it?”
Then, a ponytailed angel spoke up, “Hey, Qingxue, is this your dream guy? He’s pretty handsome!”
Yun Yang knew full well what the angels meant by ‘dream guy.’ He quickly waved his hands and said, “Don’t misunderstand—I’m not, just a comrade.”
The angel looked at Qingxue, and seeing Qingxue turn her head slightly, grew interested, circling Yun Yang and asking, “I’m Angel Cold. Since you’re not Qingxue’s dream guy, what do you think of me?”
Yun Yang was a bit confused—was this angel really so bold? But he shook his head, indicating he wasn’t interested.
“Are you sure? I feel your Genetic Engine has great potential, and you fit my requirements for a dream guy.” She stretched her waist, showing off her perfect figure.
Yun Yang shook his head again.
Seeing Yun Yang’s firm refusal, Angel Cold wasn’t angry, but instead playfully turned to a shoulder-length-haired angel girl, “This is Angel Lingxi, a second-generation angel. What do you think of her?”
Yun Yang stared blankly at her, and Angel Cold didn’t explain, instead pulling over another braided angel, “This is Angel Yitian, also a second-generation angel. What do you think?”
Angel Cold saw Yun Yang still hadn’t reacted, so she nudged him. The push jolted Yun Yang, who quickly shook his head, indicating no. He still hadn’t figured out what was going on—this angel was pitching girls to him, surely there was some hidden agenda. He dared not speak carelessly.
Just as Angel Cold was about to push the last angel at Yun Yang, the bun-haired angel jumped over, stretched out her hand to Yun Yang, and said, “Hello, dream guy. I’m Angel Breeze. Nice to meet you. What do you think of me?”
Looking at Angel Breeze’s outstretched hand, Yun Yang concluded she was quite mischievous. He shook hands and replied, “I’m Yun Yang. Nice to meet you, and you’re very beautiful.”
Angel Breeze stuck out her tongue, turned to Angel Cold, and said, “Cold Sister, dream guy thinks I’m beautiful!”
“Good, you’ll be his guardian angel from now on. Do your best!” Angel Cold calmly delivered a bombshell, leaving Angel Breeze utterly shocked.
“What… what? I… I’m still young, it’s too soon for a dream guy.” Angel Breeze’s face flushed crimson, and she stammered.
“Hmm, four hundred years old—by Earth standards, that’s not young.” Angel Cold continued to calmly jab at Breeze.
“I-I-I haven’t matched my data yet, Cold Sister, you can’t pick my dream guy for me. That’s against the rules, yes, against the rules.” Angel Breeze clung to this lifeline; she didn’t want to marry a dream guy she’d just met. If their data matched, she’d pretend she never said it.
This chapter was just blocked, so I revised it and reposted. Maybe some words were a bit sensitive.
