Chapter 155: Preparing for Action
Chapter 155 Preparing for Action
Hearing the reports from the snipers, Willis realized that this matter could not end peacefully and that he would likely be hunted down in the future.
At this thought, Willis turned back and positioned himself directly above one of the snipers.
Under the cover of the dark night, he snapped the sniper's neck and took his weapon.
Watching the armed police officers coming down from upstairs, the receptionist could not help asking, "How is the girl inside?"
"I'm sorry, we couldn't find the girl you mentioned in the room. She might have already..."
"Be, been eaten?"
The receptionist was somewhat spooked by her own thought, her speech stuttering.
"We cannot rule out that possibility, though the chance is very slim. Now we need to check the surveillance footage."
The captain of the armed police comforted the receptionist and stated his request.
After asking the boss for permission, the receptionist opened the surveillance footage for the captain. In the footage watched by both of them, the girl brought by Willis came in a rush and left in a rush, to the point that even her appearance could not be discerned.
Without paying it any further mind, the captain simply copied a video file and left directly, because in his view, this girl was probably just a paid companion. Since there was no immediate danger to her life, she was not worth paying special attention to.
By the following day, the video had been seen by virtually everyone. By noon, the parade that was supposed to take place was cancelled.
Instead, discussions were held regarding Willis's actions. People grew skeptical of his claims about Morgana's traitor and the inaction of the Xiongbing Lian.
After all, since Willis had already transformed into a demon, the truthfulness of his words was highly questionable.
Following deliberations, they determined the slogans for the next day's protest, replacing Morgana's name with Willis while maintaining that the Xiongbing Lian should still heed the will of the people.
No matter how they managed it, almost simultaneously, all the protest processions changed their slogans to these two themes.
As the protests escalated, Willis merely watched coldly from the shadows, maintaining an attitude of detachment.
Only the anger flashing intermittently in his eyes revealed that his mood was far from calm.
Looking down at the people denouncing him, Willis gave himself frantic mental pep talks.
He was now a demon, on a completely different level of existence from those people below. They were merely bugs, and there was no need for him to lower himself to their level.
Yet, listening to the increasingly harsh curses, he found himself struggling to restrain his temper. Since they were mere bugs, why should he endure this?
For offending a higher lifeform like himself, wouldn't it be simplest to just kill them on a whim?
As an extreme demon, controlling his emotions was a nearly impossible task, so he pulled out two grenades he had obtained from the snipers.
With a chilling gaze, he scanned the gathered crowd in the square, as if searching for something.
Shortly after, with a low shout, Willis threw one of the grenades directly into the densest part of the crowd using his formidable muscle strength.
Before even a single scream could ring out, the grenade detonated with a deafening roar, instantly freezing the atmosphere of the scene. Before the crowd could even begin to shriek, a second grenade exploded.
By now, everyone's nerves had snapped. Screaming at the top of their lungs, they began pushing and shoving frantically in a desperate bid to escape the square.
Watching the chaos below, a smile spread across Willis's face, as he rather enjoyed the feeling of holding life and death in his hands.
For the next period, the protest marches were intermittently targeted by terrorist attacks, after which Willis would proudly claim responsibility for them online.
Furthermore, he began escalating his actions. Starting from mere bombings, actual demons now began appearing in person, even abducting young women.
As the terrorist attacks multiplied, the protest marches completely ceased. People were now too terrified to even utter the words "demon" or "Willis," dreading that they might be struck down at any moment.
In the span of a single week, the Earth, which had only just regained its peace, was thrown back into utter turmoil by Willis and the transformed demons he led.
As Willis's self-confidence swelled, he even attempted to seize control of a small nation, though the attempt failed.
When the president of this small country was assassinated, the news could no longer be suppressed and spread globally overnight.
All the nations that had suffered terrorist attacks jointly approached China with proposals for cooperation. In their eyes, Willis was attempting to replicate the old North Oath incident—no, even worse, because the North Oath had only involved military strikes, whereas Willis aimed to subvert entire political regimes, something they considered utterly unforgivable.
The proposed cooperation involved China dispatching the Xiongbing Lian to strike the Willis syndicate, while they would deploy special forces as scouts to provide the Xiongbing Lian with the demons' coordinates.
After an afternoon of bargaining over interests, the Xiongbing Lian officially sortied: one man and one woman. That's right, you read that correct.
Just two people: Yun Yang and Qi Lin. The rationale was that a small team operation would be more covert, and both of them possessed prior experience in fighting the North Oath group.
With their backs against the wall, these foreign representatives had to swallow their pride and agree, since the combat records of these two individuals sounded undeniably impressive.
Subsequently, Yun Yang rejected their offer of a private plane escort and directly asked for the coordinates of the first suspected stronghold of Willis.
Upon obtaining the location, Yun Yang and Qi Lin armed themselves and materialized amidst a stretch of mountain forests.
Before Yun Yang could even speak, Qi Lin deployed her scanning equipment. A minute later, Qi Lin shook her head at Yun Yang.
Climbing down from a tree branch, they asked for another location, and a foreign diplomat eagerly rattled off the coordinates of a possible site within his country.
Upon arriving, the two did not encounter any demons at first, but instead ran into a band of robbers, though neither of them paid the outlaws any mind.
Just as the duo finished searching the area and found no trace of demons, preparing to leave, the robbers spotted them.
With a few shouts, a mob of bandits surrounded them. Initially, they closed in so quickly because they mistook the two for enemies.
However, after surrounding the pair, the bandits began loudly conversing among themselves, their eyes all locked fixedly on Qi Lin.
Yun Yang could roughly guess what was going through the bandits' minds, as one of them had already made a lewd gesture.
Today, Qi Lin was wearing a midriff-baring short-sleeve shirt and shorts, highlighting her youthful and vibrant charm, which fully explained why these bandits harbored malicious intentions.
As the noise from the crowd grew louder, Qi Lin's expression darkened by the second, and several gun barrels were leveled directly at them. Yun Yang quickly consulted the diplomat through their comms, asking whether these bandits could be eliminated. Without a moment's hesitation, the diplomat replied in the affirmative.
Qi Lin, overhearing their exchange, tossed down a flashbang, leaving the pack of bandits disoriented and reeling.
Just as Qi Lin reached for a regular grenade, the bandits below opened fire indiscriminately. The rat-a-tat of gunfire filled the air, with the general direction concentrated entirely on the pair.
Knowing Qi Lin's physical capabilities, Yun Yang directly wrapped an arm around her waist and leaped into the sky. Qi Lin, paying no mind to the sudden embrace, quickly pulled the pin and hurled a grenade downwards.
Leveraging her formidable dynamic visual enhancement, Qi Lin dropped the grenade precisely into the center of the cluster of bandits.
With a thunderous explosion, not a single bandit remained standing.
Landing back on the ground, Qi Lin swatted Yun Yang's hand away.
Yun Yang smiled awkwardly and waved his hands in defense.
"The situation was critical, and I was worried stray bullets wouldn't have eyes."
"I know. If not for that reason, sister here would feed you a grenade right now."
Qi Lin rolled her eyes, twirling a newly manifested grenade in her hand.
Watching Qi Lin's charming appearance, and then glancing at the grenade in her hand, Yun Yang suddenly felt an urge to tease her.
"Does eating a grenade mean we can keep going? I think I might want to try that."
With that, he even pretended to inhale deeply with an infatuated expression, smelling the hand that had just held her waist.
Yun Yang then looked expectantly at Qi Lin, but the shyness or anger he imagined did not appear on her face.
Instead, maintaining a completely calm expression, she pressed a finger to her ear and spoke into her comms.
"Hello, command? This is Qi Lin. Yun Yang is harboring illicit intentions toward me in the field. I request permission to terminate him."
"Holy crap! You're actually reporting this to command? Stop messing around, sis!"
Yun Yang instantly materialized beside Qi Lin, prying her hand away from her ear.
"Know your place now? Still dare to tease your big sis?"
Qi Lin turned her head with a smile, locking her eyes onto Yun Yang's.
"Not anymore. You win."
With this farcical episode concluded, the two arrived at their next target location.
This time, it was deep within a remote mountain wilderness. After Qi Lin deployed her scanning equipment, the feedback indicated a heat source inside a cave.
"Places like caves restrict your mobility. I'll go."
With that, Yun Yang spread his wings and flew toward the cave entrance. The moment he reached the mouth of the cave, he caught the rich aroma of roasted meat.
A surge of joy washed over him; he figured they must have found the right target this time. Brandishing the King's Sword, he stepped into the cave.
The cavern was exceptionally spacious, with the faint flicker of firelight emanating from behind a large rock boulder.
Quickly approaching, he spotted two transformed demons roasting the thigh of some unidentified beast.
One of the transformed demons glanced up at Yun Yang, continued turning the spit, and then suddenly snapped his head back up, staring at Yun Yang in sheer disbelief.
"A human? How the hell did you get in here?"
His shock was hardly unjustified, as this was a valley surrounded on all sides by steep mountains; without the ability to fly, getting in would have been an astronomical challenge.
Yun Yang shrugged, unfurling his wings once more to make his method abundantly clear: he had flown in.
"An Angel?"
This time, the transformed demon's voice cracked with panic.
Just as Yun Yang was about to clarify that he wasn't an Angel, a cry for help echoed from deep within the cave. At the very least, a simple English phrase like "help me" was well within his ability to comprehend.
At that moment, the two transformed demons violently lunged forward. In their minds, this Angel must have been distracted by the noise from inside.
Their coordinated sneak attack was bound to succeed, and then they could use the Angel's corpse to exchange for a reward from Queen Morgana.
It was a pity this Angel was male—weren't Angels supposed to be beautiful women? Not even being able to take him while he was warm was such a waste.
Just as the transformed demons' razor-sharp claws were about to reach Yun Yang's throat, a cold flash of light swept across the dark, and both demons clutched their severed hands, letting out blood-curdling screams.
