Chapter 130: I Do
Chapter 130: I Am Willing
Before long, Rose, who had only just finished lighting the fire, saw Yun Yang flying back. A flying sword followed behind him, with two gray wild rabbits impaled upon it.
Yun Yang did not land at once. Instead, he stopped some distance away and circled once, as though he had noticed something.
To light the fire, Rose had arranged wormhole corridors all around them to block the fierce winds raging across the mountaintop.
She had originally wanted to watch Yun Yang run into them and take a little revenge, but she had not expected his senses to be so sharp. Yun Yang did not possess a spacetime gene, and she had arranged everything so carefully. He should not have been able to detect it.
Yun Yang had indeed failed to notice the wormhole corridors. However, after he approached the area, he discovered that the raging wind had suddenly vanished, and that a fire had even been lit ahead of him. He therefore assumed that Rose must have set something up.
Afraid that advancing any farther might disrupt Rose’s arrangement and cause a mountain fire, he stopped and looked toward her with a pleading expression.
“Come on, come on. Let’s roast the rabbits.”
Once Yun Yang entered, Rose immediately let the matter drop.
Hearing her, Yun Yang did not think much of it. He swiftly cleaned the rabbits and began roasting them.
Half an hour later, the two of them were eating fragrant roasted rabbit meat, sitting back-to-back beside the fire and enjoying the warmth and quiet of the moment.
Yun Yang felt that this was the happiest time he had experienced since coming to this world. For once, he did not have to think about the invaders.
Although he had not been terribly busy since arriving here, he still felt extremely tired. If not for some inexplicable obsession supporting him, Yun Yang would have found some remote corner long ago and resigned himself to living off whatever came his way.
It was simply his nature. Even after obtaining a gene engine with such immense potential, Yun Yang had never tried to develop it on his own. After he and Kaisha parted ways, he had not looked through the information she had given him again, because he felt that he was already formidable enough. At the very least, he had no trouble preserving his life.
Even after Ato had beaten him, he had never considered honing his combat skills and making himself stronger.
As for Rose, although he had initially thought that he liked her, it had been the sort of affection one might feel for a fictional character.
But later, Yun Yang realized that his feelings had changed. What had begun as liking her in the literal sense had gradually deepened after they experienced various things together—such as Rose helping him find Pan Zhen for treatment.
“Rose.”
“Hmm?”
“I’m… truly very happy right now.”
At first, Yun Yang had wanted to ask what was so good about him that she would be willing to entrust her entire life to him. Her words had affected him deeply, after all.
Ultimately, Yun Yang was still an unmarried man. He had even once thought that he would not marry before the age of twenty-five.
“Is that so? There won’t be many moments like this in the future, so enjoy yourself while you can.”
The corners of Rose’s lips curved upward as she spoke with her usual proud air.
“Then I’ll make sure there are more of them. No one is allowed to disturb us.” Yun Yang clenched his fist and spoke solemnly.
When he heard the soft sound of assent from the beauty behind him, Yun Yang felt that he now had one more person for whom he was willing to make sacrifices.
He took out the flying sword again. Silver specks of light rose from it and slowly gathered in the air, forming two silver-white rings. One bore a rose pattern, while the other was engraved with drifting clouds.
The glimmering silver light naturally caught Rose’s attention. She leaned over Yun Yang’s shoulder and watched him until the two rings were complete.
“Silver Blade-level rings. I estimate that these may be the only two in the known universe.”
A trace of delight flashed through Rose’s eyes when she heard this, but she said nothing. Instead, she reached for the ring engraved with clouds.
Yun Yang caught her hand, eliciting a puzzled murmur from her.
“Wait. They’re not finished yet. Do you remember the watch I gave you?”
Yun Yang meant that he wanted to attach a special ability to the ring. Rose, however, thought he was asking where the watch had gone, so she hurriedly explained.
“I gave that watch to Pan Zhen of the Sun-Ku star as repayment for my revenge. I’m sorry.”
With that, she pulled her hand free and hugged Yun Yang tightly, rubbing her cheek against his face like a spoiled child.
Hearing this, Yun Yang froze for a moment before replying with some irritation.
“What are you talking about? What’s mine is yours. I support you no matter how you use it—especially when you used it for my sake.”
As he spoke, Yun Yang reached up and rubbed the tuft of red hair beside his ear, prompting Rose to mischievously pinch the soft flesh at his waist.
Since both Yun Yang and his gene engine judged that this did not count as an attack, a hiss of pain escaped his lips.
“A big sister’s head isn’t something just any little brother can touch.”
Only then did Rose’s lazy voice drift into his ear.
The corner of Yun Yang’s mouth twitched. He quickly withdrew his hand, but then felt that doing so made him look too cowardly. He vigorously rubbed the red tuft twice more before continuing.
“I was talking about the watch’s ability. Do you remember?”
“Hmph. Of course I remember. It was added by your gene engine, wasn’t it?”
“Exactly. I’m going to add an ability to the ring.”
Yun Yang nodded, then directly invested the life points he had obtained from rescuing the angel into the cloud-patterned ring.
As the ring began to glow faintly, Yun Yang spoke again.
“This additional ability isn’t under my control, so I don’t know what it will be.”
“I’ll like it no matter what.”
Five minutes later, the voice of Yun Yang’s mysterious advantage sounded in his mind.
Ding. Life Leap failed…
A trace of disappointment flashed through Yun Yang’s eyes. Every attempt to upgrade something with life points had failed. This ring carried his feelings for Rose, and he had wanted to give her the very best.
Unfortunately, that was beyond his control. With no other choice, Yun Yang could only inspect the ring’s ability.
Name: Ring of Mercy
Seeing the name, Yun Yang guessed that the ring would be a defensive item. He felt that was not bad at all. It would give Rose another layer of protection, after all. Unlike him, she did not have an exceptionally tough body.
With that thought, Yun Yang continued reading.
Ability: Merciful Heart
Description: This is the Ring of Mercy. Each time its wearer attacks, it forcibly drains fifty percent of the target’s vitality. The merciful shall never take a life.
After reading the description, Yun Yang decided that the system was spouting nonsense. Mercy, my foot. If this were a game, it would simply be an ability that forcibly removed half an enemy’s health.
With such a vicious ability, you call it merciful? Was he the fool, or was the system?
Yun Yang then explained the ring’s ability to Rose. After thinking for a moment, she asked, “Does it forcibly remove fifty percent of their health every time?”
“I’m not sure. We can test it.”
As he spoke, Yun Yang picked up the ring, dropped to one knee, and gazed into Rose’s eyes.
“I will defy my nature, reject my instincts, and love you forever. Rose, will you marry me?”
This was a line Yun Yang had encountered at least once before crossing into this world. He had thought it both meaningful and sincere, so he used it here.
Rose did not entirely understand his declaration, but she felt that it sounded wonderfully profound. Following his example, she said softly, “I will defy my nature, reject my instincts, and love you forever. Yun Yang, will you marry me?”
The two looked at each other and smiled, then declared firmly in unison:
“I will!”
Yun Yang gently slipped the cloud-patterned ring onto the beauty’s ring finger, then kissed it lightly.
Rose raised a hand as well, summoning the other ring into her palm. She took Yun Yang’s hand, carefully placed it on his finger, then pressed it against her cheek and rubbed against it.
At that moment, both of their hearts were filled with happiness.
Rose felt that she had gained a family once more—a person worthy of entrusting her life to.
Yun Yang felt the same. In this world, he now had a family and someone worth protecting with his life. He was no longer an outsider adrift beyond everything.
This scene was also witnessed by Morgana from Demon One. This time, she showed no anger. She merely sighed and muttered,
“Spacetime Rose, my beloved. The little cabbage from my household is about to be trampled by a pig. My heart aches.”
Hearing this, Black Wind silently drifted over to Ato and whispered, “Ato, the queen has been dumped. Your chance has arrived.”
The corners of Ato’s mouth rose almost imperceptibly, only to be replaced by indifference when he saw the queen’s demonic claw shoot straight toward Black Wind beside him.
A tremendous crash rang out. Black Wind was hammered into the wall of the command room, embedded so firmly that even digging him out would be impossible.
After sending Black Wind flying, Morgana turned around and shouted, “All right! We demons have a vow of protection now too. It’s the one those two just made. Did everyone hear it?”
Atai stroked his chin and offered Morgana a suggestion.
“Defy their nature, reject their instincts—that vow is truly perfect for demons, Your Majesty. I suggest that we engrave it into the foundational genes of the demon race, just as the angels have done.”
With that, every demon in the command hall turned to look at their queen, waiting for her decision.
“Good. Atai, I’ll leave this matter to you. If the angels have it, then we demons must have it too. After all, we are the evolution of angels.”
Morgana slapped her palm with her fist and issued the order at once.
Only then did Black Wind manage to pry himself from the wall. He lay sprawled on the floor and murmured, “This will become the only promise in a demon’s entire life. It sounds so beautiful.”
“I will defy my nature, reject my instincts, and never eat you. Hahahaha!”
Just as every demon in the room fell silent, a foolishly adorable voice rang out, drawing everyone’s attention.
Suton, who had still been laughing uproariously, found his laughter caught in his throat beneath the demons’ stares. He stopped at once, shrank his neck timidly, and whispered,
“I—I was only talking about myself. I didn’t mean any of you.”
The demons all covered their faces. Why had they bothered trying to reason with this brainless crocodile? It only made them look brainless too.
Although that was what the demons were thinking, Morgana did not hesitate. She used her demonic claw to hoist Suton out of the command hall and shouted as the doors closed,
“Eat, eat, eat! That’s all you ever think about! Didn’t you hear me announcing the code of conduct for our civilization?”
Suton was thrown directly into the wall outside, nearly crashing into Wei Qi, who happened to be passing by.
“Hey, big crocodile. What happened?”
“I don’t know either. I only said two words, and Big Sis threw me out.”
Suton sat on the ground, an aggrieved expression on his crocodile face as he scratched his head in confusion.
