Chapter 104: Perhaps It Is Talent
Chapter 104: Perhaps It’s Talent
When Ge Xiaolun heard Yun Yang mention Wang Jian, he immediately realized that such a precious treasure would no longer be his to keep. After a fierce internal struggle, he finally sighed and said, “Meeting adjourned. You can have it.”
The others fell silent, turning their full attention to Lian Feng and A Zhui’s explanations.
Twenty main flagship ships of the Taotie fleet were indeed formidable, but they were not the greatest concern. It was the “Heaven’s Dregs”—the elite second-generation super warriors—that truly worried everyone.
Though only numbering a hundred, these were all second-generation super soldiers. To put it into perspective, Qilin was herself second-generation, so this was like facing a hundred Qilins.
The exact number of these “Heaven’s Dregs” was unknown to the Earth forces; it was only certain that this Taotie fleet included them.
Ultimately, the task of sniping these “Heaven’s Dregs” was assigned to the Angel Warriors, along with Ge Xiaolun, Yun Yang, and Qilin.
The others were chosen mainly due to their wings, which allowed flight, while Qilin was selected as a sniper because the God-Slayer One rifle she wielded could severely wound or even kill these super warriors.
Yun Yang’s mission was straightforward: to provide support buffs to the team and to protect Qilin as needed.
He decided to stay by Qilin’s side the entire time, as he had a flying sword for ranged attacks. Notably, Qilin’s physical constitution, despite being a second-generation super warrior, was not superior to that of a first-generation Angel Warrior.
Another crucial point was that Yun Yang’s wings were white with subtle patterns, which, under the extreme tension of battle, could easily lead to a fatal mistake—being mistaken for an enemy and struck down by comrades.
Meanwhile, the others were tasked with resisting the ground invasion of the Taotie. If they could hold the first wave, the warriors, armed with high-tech weapons created by Ge Xiaolun using the Xiong Core, should be able to fight the Taotie to a stalemate.
After that, the plan was to stabilize the front line and await reinforcements from the Xiong Soldiers and the first-generation Angel Vanguard. If all went smoothly, victory in this battle was within reach.
With the plan set, there was little more for Yun Yang and the others to concern themselves with. Predicting the exact landing points was beyond Yun Yang’s understanding anyway.
The Heavenly Blades would not be used unless absolutely necessary, as they consumed enormous stellar energy and were too precious to waste.
After the meeting, Yun Yang grabbed Ge Xiaolun and held out his hand, signaling for the Wang Sword.
Having been in the meeting for some time, Ge Xiaolun had completely forgotten about this and looked at him in confusion. “Yangzi, what are you doing?”
Yun Yang’s mind churned. Did that mean he didn’t want to hand it over? Playing dumb? He hadn’t expected Ge Xiaolun’s broad-faced, thick-browed expression to turn so sour. He said, “What? My weapon? You want me to fight the ‘Heaven’s Dregs’ empty-handed?”
Ge Xiaolun suddenly realized and exclaimed, “Oh! But don’t you have a flying sword? How is that empty-handed?”
Yun Yang’s face flushed slightly—he had forgotten but couldn’t admit it. Regaining his composure, he replied, “That sword is too small, it lacks the overwhelming momentum to intimidate the enemy. You get what I mean, right?”
Ge Xiaolun chuckled and teased, “I remember some fellow named Yun once wanted to be a sword immortal.”
“Ha ha, that’s just your imagination. Yeah, just an illusion,” Yun Yang said, taking the Wang Sword and laughing it off, trying to brush it aside.
After Yun Yang walked away with the Wang Sword, Ge Xiaolun felt a wave of melancholy wash over him. The Wang Sword had never killed a single enemy in his hands.
Now, with the enemy approaching and himself ready to carve a path through them, Yun Yang had come back and taken it. What kind of nonsense was this?
Thinking this over, Ge Xiaolun took out the newly repaired Void Greatsword, feeling its heavy blade, and spoke sincerely, “Old friend, looks like you’re still the one who treats me best.”
He even rubbed it with his foot.
This scene was witnessed by Zhao Xin, who was holding his wife’s hand. In Zhao Xin’s eyes, Ge Xiaolun had been without a girlfriend for too long and had become a weirdo who treated his weapons like wives.
He shivered involuntarily and gripped Zhixin’s hand a little tighter.
Zhixin noticed and asked with a puzzled expression, “Zhao Xin, what’s wrong?”
Zhao Xin turned his head, face serious, and said, “Wife, from now on, call me husband.”
“But…” Zhixin began, only to be interrupted by Zhao Xin.
“No buts. You’re my wife, I’m your husband. If you don’t obey, I’ll—heh heh—resort to sticks and rods.”
Zhixin’s cheeks flushed slightly, her silvery shoulder-length hair making her look even more radiant and captivating. Zhao Xin’s eyes brightened; he suddenly felt his silver-haired wife had never looked more beautiful.
As Zhao Xin wrapped his arm around Zhixin’s waist and passed by, Ge Xiaolun noticed. He glanced at the Void Greatsword in his hand, then at Zhixin in Zhao Xin’s embrace.
Without hesitation, he put the greatsword away. Suddenly, the Void Greatsword didn’t seem so appealing anymore. He wasn’t sure why, but it just lost its allure all of a sudden.
Meanwhile, Yun Yang wandered over to Qing Xue and slyly pulled out some tea leaves he had stealthily taken from He Xi, saying, “Guess where I got this tea leaves from.”
Qing Xue gave Yun Yang a sidelong glance, as if looking at a fool, and said, “Tian City.”
“Uh, yeah, I did go to Tian City,” Yun Yang admitted awkwardly, having forgotten Qing Xue knew about his trip.
“That’s not it. Tian City has too many items of this style. I have plenty in my room,” Qing Xue said, pointing to the pale golden patterns on the tea container.
“Well, then guess again where I got it from,” Yun Yang, undeterred by Qing Xue’s surprised expression, tried another approach.
“Did Zhixin give it to you?” Qing Xue asked uncertainly.
“Sort of related,” Yun Yang replied with an encouraging look.
“Could it be Queen Yan?” Qing Xue asked, astonished.
“No, no, no, I stole it—cough—your Heavenly Base King gave it to me,” Yun Yang nearly slipped but quickly corrected himself, afraid it would tarnish his honest and trustworthy image.
“You mean you stole it, right? Definitely,” Qing Xue smiled slyly.
“What stealing? Stealing what? You must have misheard,” Yun Yang defended himself with a perfectly innocent expression.
“You definitely said stealing. Hmph, you’re finished,” Qing Xue shrugged.
“Chuanzi? Where’s Chuanzi?” Yun Yang exclaimed, as if he had lost control. He looked around dramatically and shouted.
Qing Xue, indifferent, gestured for Yun Yang to keep shouting and even lifted her chin slightly, encouraging him to be louder.
Seeing this, Yun Yang realized his words were useless here. He returned to a normal expression and said, “Never mind how I got it. Let’s go see old Li. I’ll give him this tea. I don’t know much about tea, but this one’s really good.”
Qing Xue’s eyes brightened, then she hesitated, saying, “You’re bringing a gift. Should I bring something too?”
“No, no, no, you just bring back a big grandson for him,” Yun Yang teased.
At this, Qing Xue’s smooth forehead immediately filled with black lines. Her small hand slowly reached for Yun Yang’s ear, who was completely unaware.
“Ouch, ouch, ouch! Where did you learn to pull ears like that? Let go!” Yun Yang wanted to say he learned it from Kaisa but stopped himself in time, instead replying, “Maybe it’s a talent.”
Qing Xue spoke uncertainly.
Yun Yang was speechless and rubbed the itchy spot on his hand caused by some angel’s ticklish touch.
Accompanied by a tinkling laugh, Yun Yang’s ear was finally freed. Don’t ask why he didn’t tickle Kaisa back—just ask if he dared.
That evening, at mealtime in the military camp, Yun Yang and Qing Xue met old Li, who was holding the tea leaves Yun Yang had brought and the teapot Qing Xue had gifted.
Old Li brewed a pot of tea, took a sip, and said, “Hmm, not bad. The teapot Qing Xue gave is really good. The tea brewed in it smells wonderful.”
Yun Yang and Qing Xue exchanged confused looks.
Yun Yang’s mind was racing wildly. Was this even human language? He risked his life stealing those tea leaves, yet they couldn’t compare to the tea brewed in a teapot Qing Xue bought casually from a shop.
“Uncle, why don’t you try brewing the tea with another teapot?” Yun Yang suggested cautiously, not wanting his tea leaves to be overshadowed.
Old Li raised an eyelid, took another small sip, and said, “Besides the teapot my grandson gave me, no other teapot brews tea this good.”
Yun Yang felt life was unbearable. Without children, he probably had no standing in front of old Li. Thinking this, he stood up and left without hesitation.
“Hey, Yun Yang, where are you going?” Qing Xue asked.
“Can’t talk anymore. Every sentence ends with ‘grandson,’” Yun Yang’s voice echoed from the tent.
Qing Xue looked anxiously at old Li, feeling uneasy. How did such a good rapport between two people suddenly sour with just a few words?
“Uncle, should I go after him?” Qing Xue asked, seeing old Li still leisurely sipping tea without a hint of reaction.
“Don’t bother with that little rascal. Qing Xue, tell me—any boys chasing after you?” Old Li frowned, glancing toward the door, then softened and looked at Qing Xue.
After Yun Yang left, he headed straight to the dining hall. Using his Xiong Soldiers badge, he ordered several large plates of food. Then, after some thought, he used teleportation to the supermarket and bought several bottles of white wine before leisurely returning to the tent.
He paid no attention to the conversation inside, placed the food and wine on the table, and said, “Are you two hungry? If not, I’m just going to eat by myself.”
Though Yun Yang could now survive on energy alone, he still felt hunger occasionally. It wasn’t severe, but it was quite uncomfortable, so he maintained the habit of three meals a day.
Old Li saw the wine on the table and swallowed hard. “Drinking is forbidden in the military camp.”
