Chapter 70: The Astonished Senior Brothers
The people of the Golden Light Sect were on the verge of madness.
Never before had they collectively hated someone so much; at this moment, Bai Feiyu’s very existence had become a thorn in their side, something they desperately wished to eradicate. Yet, Bai Feiyu was swift as lightning, and for now, they simply couldn’t catch up with him...
Leading these pursuers, Bai Feiyu swept through several nearby sects, leaving chaos in his wake. Taking advantage of the disorder, and with the spirit puppets’ attention diverted elsewhere, he slipped into a hidden corner and managed to shake them off.
As for the remaining people? Well, let them suffer through their own headaches for now. After all, they weren’t from the Returning Void Sect, and Bai Feiyu saw no reason to concern himself with their fate. Whatever reckoning awaited the Golden Light Sect from the other sects after this, it was none of his business.
He then released the rabbit and began to explore the surroundings. Nearby stood a military encampment, evidently a site where ancient foreign tribes trained their warriors. Bai Feiyu meticulously searched the place with his compass, discovering no spiritual formations within. Turning the camp upside down, he found not a single treasure—indeed, not even a single weapon remained.
With no other choice, Bai Feiyu left with the rabbit.
On his way back, he used a transmission jade to inform Liu Guang and the others, asking them to notify the sect that he had descended safely.
As he retraced his steps, he calculated that by now, elders from various sects would be arriving soon. Bai Feiyu had no desire to search for treasures on another sect’s territory. The reason was simple: he had offended too many people. If someone like him managed to shake off the spirit puppets and ran into him unexpectedly, what then? Old grudges and new resentments would combine, and they’d all come for him at once.
Soon, Bai Feiyu returned to the territory of the Returning Void Sect. There, he saw Liu Guang and the others.
The disciples of the sect were gathered before a palace, anxiously waiting. Seeing Bai Feiyu return alive, they were elated.
“Junior Brother Bai, you’re finally back! You have no idea how worried we all were.”
“Brother Bai, the sect’s people will be here soon. Word is, not only the sect master is coming, but he’s bringing nearly all of the outstanding core disciples.”
“Don’t worry, Junior Brother Bai. I know you’ve offended quite a few people, but once the sect master arrives, nobody will dare lay a finger on you.”
Many disciples comforted Bai Feiyu, convinced he must have been traumatized. Why else would he seem so uninterested in the treasures within the palace? What they didn’t know was that Bai Feiyu’s absent-mindedness came from pondering what excuse he might use to leave this place. He had no wish to remain among these burdensome companions.
He now understood that their arrival had merely been a reconnaissance mission. The ancient glory of the Toba Ruins would not be ignored by any sect; none would allow such a rich prize to slip away. Once the main forces arrived, the Toba Ruins would be thoroughly scoured.
Bai Feiyu gazed at the palace. It was magnificent and solemn, clearly an important structure in its time. Surely, treasures lay within.
With this in mind, Bai Feiyu inquired, “Is there a way inside this palace? Has anyone found anything within?”
Upon hearing his question, Liu Guang and the others sighed.
“Brother Feiyu, you don’t know—the formation here is extremely powerful. A single misstep could mean death.”
“We’ve carefully investigated. Though there are indeed many valuable items inside, we likely aren’t fortunate enough to enjoy them.”
“We were just discussing whether to rest for a while and shift our focus elsewhere.”
Hearing their complaints, Bai Feiyu pondered for a moment, then covertly took out his compass to locate the exit of the formation.
Without consulting or notifying anyone, he strode directly into the formation.
“Brother Feiyu, don’t!”
“Be careful, Brother Feiyu, it’s dangerous in there!”
“Damn it, why is he always up to something unexpected?”
Many senior brothers of the Returning Void Sect felt their hearts leap into their throats, fearful for Bai Feiyu’s safety. They were all brothers of the same sect and naturally did not wish to see him come to harm.
But what happened next left them utterly dumbfounded.
For they watched as Bai Feiyu, entering a formation they believed impossible to traverse, emerged unscathed.
What did this mean? It meant Bai Feiyu had truly found the correct entrance.
For a moment, the group was thrown into confusion.
When they had first arrived, the senior brothers of the sect had examined the site and determined it was nearly impossible to enter—the formation was far too powerful, and no one could guarantee finding its entrance. A reckless attempt would surely risk one’s life.
Now, Bai Feiyu had led them to the correct entrance.
At that moment, Liu Qing was stunned by Bai Feiyu’s actions. Memories of the initial opening of the Toba Ruins and Bai Feiyu’s whispered words resurfaced in his mind. Coupled with Bai Feiyu’s strange behavior these past days, Liu Qing suddenly understood: Bai Feiyu must have found some opportunity, but it wasn’t convenient to share—or perhaps he simply didn’t want to share—so he wanted to leave the group.
Though Bai Feiyu said nothing, he had at least contributed to their cause.
All at once, Liu Qing resolved to keep Bai Feiyu’s secret. This young man was destined for greatness; if he didn’t want his secret discovered, and Liu Qing exposed it, Bai Feiyu would surely resent him. Then, he’d lose his chance to rely on such a powerful ally.
Smiling, Liu Qing followed Bai Feiyu into the formation.
Instantly, the Returning Void Sect erupted in excitement. Though the disciples did not know how Bai Feiyu had found the correct entrance, it mattered little. What mattered was the treasure within the palace.
“Everyone, be careful! There may be other formations within.”
“Besides, Brother Feiyu was attacked by battle puppets before; if anything happens inside, everyone must stay calm and retreat in an orderly fashion.”
Liu Guang shouted instructions to the group.
One by one, the disciples of the Returning Void Sect began to enter the formation...
