Chapter 64: Striking It Rich

My Cultivation Relies on Picking Things Up A single sword severs the distant horizon. 2456 words 2026-03-04 22:41:58

Bai Feiyu descended into the passageway, the rabbit following closely behind, its eyes darting about anxiously. As Bai Feiyu made his way down, in the next instant, his eyes sparkled with excitement.

Inside the basement, there was everything one could imagine: heaps of spirit stones piled like small hills, mountains of gold, silver, and jewels, an array of weapons, and a collection of cultivation manuals that looked rather valuable.

It seemed the owner of this place had deliberately stored these treasures here, likely fearing discovery. Whether it was to guard against future intruders or to prevent old enemies from finding them, Bai Feiyu could not tell.

Gazing at the vast trove of spirit stones, Bai Feiyu had only one thought in his mind: fortune had smiled upon him. With so many spirit stones amassed together, it was as if a small mountain had appeared before him. This haul alone was enough to sustain his cultivation without restraint for a whole year.

Luckily, he had ventured out alone. If he had brought Liu Guang and the others, he would have had to split the spoils and hand over a significant portion to the sect.

Without hesitation, Bai Feiyu retrieved a shovel from his storage pouch and began filling it with treasure. His storage pouch could even hold other storage pouches, and this time Bai Feiyu had come well-prepared, so he had no worries about running out of space.

Ecstatic, Bai Feiyu spent several hours transporting his newfound wealth. By the time he was finished, only the cultivation manuals remained in the basement.

He walked over and casually opened one, only to find that he could not recognize a single character written within.

In the end, though he had obtained these manuals, he had no way to cultivate from them.

But Bai Feiyu cared little for such things. His character dictated he would never leave anything behind, even if it was worthless—at the very least, it was a trophy of his own. Perhaps, someday, should he meet someone from another race who did him a great favor, he could offer these as a token of gratitude.

Indeed, Bai Feiyu was always one to think far ahead.

This venture had brought him an immense fortune; at that moment, Bai Feiyu felt so elated that he even considered changing his moniker, resolving that others should henceforth call him Boss Bai.

However, that thought was quickly dismissed. He needed to remain low-key, absolutely low-key.

The main concern was not to let his wealth show. If others saw him flaunting his riches, the sect might send someone to investigate. If that happened, his vast fortune would be exposed.

After a brief tidying up, Bai Feiyu prepared to leave the manor with the rabbit, planning to search other manors for more treasures.

“Hey, keep your voices down. Whatever you do, don’t let the people from the Void Return Sect find out.”
“This time, we’ve snuck onto their turf. Let’s gather as much as we can.”
“Those Void Return Sect bastards are insufferable, especially that youngest one. He actually humiliated our people. We must get our revenge, no matter what.”
“Calm down. Let’s wait a bit. When we spot that brat, it won’t be too late to settle the score!”
“You’re right. That brat is only at the Bright Qi stage, while you, Senior Brother, have already reached the first tier of the Shackled Realm.”

Just as Bai Feiyu was about to leave the basement, he heard voices from afar. In the next moment, he saw that several members of the Golden Light Sect were rummaging through things on the first floor. They had yet to discover the passageway.

Listening to their conversation, Bai Feiyu felt a surge of anger. Did these people truly wish for his demise over such a trivial matter? They had held a grudge against him for so long over such petty incidents. What was worse, after finally striking it rich, he now risked being exposed by them.

No doubt, once these fellows saw both floors stripped bare, they would assume he had taken everything.

Fuming, Bai Feiyu sprang out of hiding.

A loud bang echoed as Bai Feiyu landed, his foot striking the ground with such force that the Golden Light Sect members were nearly frightened out of their wits.

In the next instant, all their eyes fixed on Bai Feiyu. When they recognized his face, sneers twisted across their lips:

“Well, well, didn’t expect to run into you here, kid.”
“What luck! No wonder this place was empty—you packed it all away like a thieving rodent.”
“Now, brat, you actually dared to come here alone. This is the end for you!”

There were three members of the Golden Light Sect present, each dispatched here by their sect. Similar teams had been sent by all the sects.

“Hmph, you’re right. There were plenty of good things here, spirit stones piled like mountains,” Bai Feiyu retorted with a cold smile. “But do you really think you’ll get your hands on them?”

“You’re asking for death!”

Infuriated by Bai Feiyu’s provocation, the three Golden Light Sect members glared at him. Never before had they encountered such an arrogant disciple of the Void Return Sect. After all, for someone at the Bright Qi stage to speak to them like this was an affront in itself. And to actually brag about his haul!

With hostility written on their faces, the three began advancing on Bai Feiyu, each step deliberate and menacing.

“Kid, before coming here, we checked—the nearest Void Return Sect disciples are far away.”
“In other words, if we kill you, no one will ever know.”
“You probably never imagined your end would come so soon. But such is fate—if you’re not one of us, you don’t belong. Your sect cannot allow someone like you to exist.”

The three members sneered coldly. Among them, two were at the ninth layer of the Bright Qi stage, and one had reached the first tier of the Shackled Realm. Such cultivation was enough to establish a small sect of their own; anyone facing such a lineup would feel their scalp tingle with dread.

Yet Bai Feiyu showed not the slightest fear. He could see that their cultivation was by no means insurmountable.

In other words, they posed no real challenge to him and did not push him to a life-or-death struggle. With his ability to fight across realms, Bai Feiyu was confident he could deal with them easily.

With that thought, Bai Feiyu instantly drew the War God Spear. A dragon’s roar resounded to the heavens, and in the next heartbeat, a spectral dragon coiled around his spear.

He had already decided: whatever the case, he would claim their heads first.

The only regret was that these fellows likely had nothing of value on them. He couldn’t even profit from robbing them, which was a true pity.

With this in mind, Bai Feiyu looked at the three with an expression of deep sympathy, so much so that the trio was left utterly baffled.

They couldn’t understand—why was this fellow looking at them like that?
