Chapter 152: She Slandered Ranran, She Must Die
Mu Ran felt dazed, and suddenly, she was enveloped in a warm embrace.
A split second later, a sharp pain pierced her head. She knew instantly that the person holding her from behind was Gu Beicheng.
Mu Ran placed her hands over the man’s large palms. Her voice was a soft, delicate murmur, tinged with a sense of lost grievance. "Gu Beicheng, why doesn't my mother recognize me?"
Gu Beicheng’s body stiffened. Following her gaze, his cold, emotionless eyes fell upon the "devoted mother and daughter" below the stage.
At that moment, Ye Ran was clutching the hand of Mrs. Mu, Feng Yue, in a panic. Pointing toward Mu Ran, she shrieked hysterically, "Godmother, it was her! She pushed me down! My baby, Godmother, what should I do!"
Feng Yue’s sharp, fiery gaze landed on the pair on stage. When she saw the face of the woman looking so forlorn in the man’s arms, she was momentarily stunned. Then, she slowly released Ye Ran’s hand, stood up, and approached the stage with an imposing aura.
Feng Yue was the twin sister of Mrs. Qin, Feng Si. Not long ago, her sister had mentioned a young girl named Mu Ran during a chat. Feng Si had said that the Qin family felt they had wronged Mu Ran, but were too embarrassed to apologize in person.
Seeing her up close, Feng Yue felt a genuine shock; Mu Ran’s features bore a striking resemblance to both her and her sister. However, Mu Ran was not the Qin family’s youngest daughter; DNA tests could not be faked.
"Beicheng, this is your girlfriend, Mu Ran, I presume?" Although Feng Yue was looking up at the couple on stage, her presence was no less commanding. As the matriarch of the Mu family, every expression and gesture she made carried an air of authority.
"Aunt Feng, this is my girlfriend, Mu Ran." Gu Beicheng pulled Mu Ran tightly into his arms.
In the air, Mu Ran’s gaze collided with Feng Yue’s. Feng Yue was the first to look away. A smile curled on her lips, but her eyes swept over the man on stage with indifference. Even though her expression appeared calm, it could not hide the displeasure in her tone. "Beicheng, Ye Ran is practically your sister. Why couldn't you protect her well?"
"How could you let her fall from the stage? You know she is carrying a child..." As Feng Yue spoke, she cast occasional glances of contempt at Mu Ran, who was staring at her unblinkingly.
Mu Ran’s vision swam; in the eyes of the woman below, she actually saw detachment and disgust. Is this woman not my mother? Why is she looking at me as if I am a stranger?
Suddenly, the man’s cold, deep voice pulled Mu Ran from her trance.
"Aunt Feng, I have never known anyone by the name of Ye Ran, nor did I know she was pregnant. As for her being a 'sister'... do Mu Lang and the others even acknowledge her?" Gu Beicheng’s lips curled up, but his black eyes held no warmth, only mockery and impatience. A sister? Since when did he have a sister? A "sister" whom the three Mu brothers didn't even recognize, worthy of being his sister? Ridiculous.
Gu Beicheng sneered, his eyes shifting past the seething Feng Yue to rest on Ye Ran, who lay on the floor, trembling in feigned terror. This woman dared to slander Ranran?
"Lock the door to the live-streaming studio."
The man’s commanding, icy decree shook everyone in the room to their core.
Lock the door? The employee standing by the door gripped the handle, his hands trembling. He looked blankly toward his own president, Mu Ran, but she wasn't looking at him. He then turned to An Lan, who had just returned, seeking help. "President An, President Gu said to lock the door, but... that Ye Ran..."
An Lan and the employee both looked at Ye Ran, who was surrounded by medical staff on the floor. The woman’s cries were shrill, and her verbal abuse was laced with slanders against Mu Ran. The studio had only one entrance; if it were locked, Ye Ran could not be taken to the hospital in time.
An Lan let out a cold snort, pushed the employee’s hand aside, slammed the door shut, and locked it. The door to the studio was designed with a dual-sided lock, capable of being secured from both inside and out.
"Beicheng! What are you doing! I need to take Ranran to the hospital! If you lock the door, how will my Ranran get proper treatment!" Feng Yue panicked. She hurried to Ye Ran’s side and looked at the medical staff, who shook their heads at her regretfully. She knelt slightly, stroking Ye Ran’s sweat-drenched forehead. "Ranran, don't worry, Godmother is here."
"Gu Beicheng, she doesn't recognize me anymore. Why?" On the stage, Mu Ran stared at the face that so closely mirrored her own, clutching the corner of Gu Beicheng’s coat in despair.
"Hush, she will remember you." Gu Beicheng could not bear to see her looking so wronged. He cradled her head, stroking it gently, and bowed his head to press kiss after kiss upon her smooth forehead.
"Mu Ran! Tell Gu Beicheng to open the door! I need to take Ranran to the hospital! How can you stand by and watch her die! Ranran said it was you who pushed her!" Feng Yue shouted sternly at the woman hiding in Gu Beicheng’s arms. She had known all along that Mu Ran was no good. Even if her sister Feng Si said the girl was wonderful, she simply detested her! So what if her three sons acknowledged this Mu Ran as a god-sister? She, Feng Yue, had only one goddaughter, and that was Ye Ran!
Mu Ran was suddenly at a loss. Why did her mother believe Ye Ran’s words? She hadn't pushed that woman! The woman tugged at Gu Beicheng’s coat, tears welling in her cold, beautiful fox-like eyes.
"Hush, Ranran, it has nothing to do with you." The man bowed his head to kiss her eyes. A moment later, he looked up, his gaze filled with murderous intent, his cold black eyes pinning Feng Yue and her daughter. "Who dares to open the door? Ye Ran slandered Ranran, so she can just die."
