Volume One, Chapter 19: The Taste of Snake Meat
After all, they hadn’t eaten meat for three days.
If they didn’t look at the snake, the aroma of the meat was still quite strong.
But the moment they saw it was snake, their desire vanished without a trace.
Yet they also knew there was no telling when they would be able to leave.
The rescue team had not arrived, and this delay was slowly breaking their spirits, inching them toward despair.
So they had to survive on their own, learn how to survive.
To endure on this deserted island, they had to overcome their fears.
“This is pure wild game. If someone reported it outside, it would be illegal. But truly, it must taste delicious. Don’t think of it as snake meat—just imagine it’s chicken. Want a piece?”
Ye Feng said this, then cut a piece of meat with his small knife and handed it to Lin Yao.
In that instant, Lin Yao recoiled, her delicate frame retreating, her face full of refusal.
“I’ll try it!”
At that moment, Gao Fei’er took it from her.
Her expression was a fierce struggle, but like drinking bitter medicine, she closed her eyes and stuffed it into her mouth.
As she chewed, the nervousness and fear that had been etched on her face quickly eased.
Soon after, she wore the satisfied look of someone enjoying chicken.
“Not bad. You all should try it too!”
Eventually, under Gao Fei’er’s coaxing, the entire snake was quickly devoured.
The only one who didn’t eat was Lin Yao.
Even Lin Xiaoxiao, the youngest, had eaten a small piece.
Lin Yao’s fear still held her back.
“Ye Feng, your barbecue skills are really impressive. To cook something this delicious in this kind of environment is quite a feat. It tastes good. Too bad it’s all gone.”
Gao Fei’er licked her alluring red lips, her face still craving more.
This scene made Ye Feng’s heart skip a beat.
Especially when he saw Gao Fei’er’s intense gaze fixed on him and her lip-licking gesture—it was pure seduction!
Though Gao Fei’er wasn’t the most beautiful among the women, her figure was undeniably the best.
More importantly, she was the most mature and enchanting.
A mature woman’s temptation, especially for a pure, inexperienced young man like him, was absolutely devastating.
He had just recovered and wasn’t yet at his peak.
That little gesture from Gao Fei’er instantly sent his body back to full strength.
He wasn’t sure if it was because of Gao Fei’er or the snake meat.
Either way, he felt some discomfort, a swelling sensation.
“Wh-what’s that?”
At that moment, Lin Yao suddenly trembled and spoke.
Following her words, everyone’s gaze immediately turned toward the source.
The dense, black forms were slowly moving in their direction.
This scene caused all their faces to change drastically, their hearts pounding faster.
“Gao Fei’er, you jinxed us!”
As the black shapes approached, they could clearly see the intruders were banded kraits—this time in a swarm.
Estimating from the dense mass, there were over a dozen.
At this moment, Lin Yao was on the verge of tears.
Gao Fei’er’s face had turned deathly pale; she dared not speak.
“Ye Feng, wh-what do we do?”
Chen Jing, who was closest to him, instinctively grabbed his arm, her voice trembling fiercely.
Before, she hadn’t been so afraid because Ye Feng was unconscious; she had to keep up morale for everyone.
Now that Ye Feng was awake, her mental defenses immediately collapsed.
No matter what, she was still a girl—a girl who could be scared.
Though Ye Feng wasn’t afraid of snakes, having so many all at once, and with defenseless girls like Lin Yao around, he couldn’t be careless.
“Looks like the smell from the grilled snake attracted them. I just don’t know if they’re coming for revenge or for food.”
Ye Feng slowly lifted his baseball bat, eyes wary of the approaching banded kraits.
They were sizable snakes, all adults, highly aggressive.
More dangerous still was their venom.
“Now’s not the time for nonsense. Ye Feng, think of a way, hurry!!!”
Lin Yao was so frightened she was close to tears.
“Miss, I’m human, not a god. Coming at us all at once, I don’t have a perfect plan either!”
Hearing Lin Yao’s urging, Ye Feng had to retort.
“I’m most afraid of snakes. Even if I got killed by wolves, I don’t want to die from venomous snakes. Ye Feng, please, I beg you—I don’t want to die!”
Lin Yao’s inner defenses completely collapsed at that moment.
Because one krait had taken a shortcut and was now less than three meters away from her.
At this close range, if the snake wanted to strike, it could do so at any moment.
“Do words spoken in the daytime count?”
Ye Feng suddenly stood up and said.
“Wh-what words?”
“Didn’t you say you were my girlfriend? Have you forgotten?”
“At a time like this, stop saying that. If you help me drive them away, I’ll be your girlfriend.”
At this moment, Lin Yao’s mind had no capacity for thought; she blurted it out immediately.
No one responded.
Because their feelings were similar to Lin Yao’s—they were surrounded by banded kraits.
“Deal! Don’t move, even if a snake crawls onto you, don’t move. Little darlings, come with me!”
Ye Feng said this, then lifted the baseball bat and slowly walked in another direction.
As he stood, a faint whistle sounded.
The whistle was eerie, but as soon as it blew, all the banded kraits froze in place.
They were poised to strike.
At that instant, all the women trembled.
“Don’t move, do you hear me? If anything happens, don’t blame me!!!”
Ye Feng immediately warned again.
Then the whistle sounded once more.
And grew louder.
As the sound grew, the banded kraits, originally frozen, began to move, twisting their bodies as they advanced toward Ye Feng.
Those snakes on Ye Feng’s side were manageable, but those behind the women were a different story.
The banded kraits took a shortcut, slithering right past the women.
Seeing this work, the women remembered Ye Feng’s words. Though terrified, they endured.
They watched helplessly as all the banded kraits followed Ye Feng’s footsteps.
But at that moment, a thinner banded krait stopped on Lin Yao’s shoulder.
No matter how loud Ye Feng whistled, it wouldn’t move.
Lin Yao, clearly sensing this, had turned as pale as death, her delicate body trembling violently.
“Don’t speak, don’t move!!!”
Ye Feng grew anxious and hurried to remind them.
He hadn’t expected an odd one among the snake swarm; this irritated him.
But despite his frustration, he could not ignore the immediate danger.
Because the banded kraits he had attracted were now close to him.
As a child, though not an expert, snakes often sought him out whenever they appeared in the house.
He had a natural affinity for snakes, so this whistle was something he had researched online in middle school and practiced.
Later, he tested it—and it truly worked.
Facing so many snakes, this was his only tactic.
Still, he was somewhat nervous trying it here.
After all, this island was different; the plants and animals were unlike those he knew.
So he couldn’t be certain it would work.
But fortunately, it did.
“Wuu~”
At that moment, Lin Yao suddenly started crying.
Ye Feng looked up sharply; his scalp tingled.
The banded krait had slithered from her chest into her clothing.
Damn it—wolves are lustful, but snakes too?
