Chapter 14: Determined to Kill Qi Yan

“It’s nothing,” Qi Yan pressed against the door. “You don’t need to come in.”
His voice sounded weak. Yun Zhao grew anxious. “Are you hurt? Should I go find Master Lu? Don’t try to tough it out alone.”
“I’m fine,” Qi Yan gasped. “My cultivation was sealed for several days. As soon as it was unsealed, my body just couldn’t handle it.”
“I’ll just regulate my breath for a while.”
Yun Zhao heard his voice becoming steadier and reluctantly believed him. “I’ll stay outside. Call me if you need anything.”
Qi Yan touched his fuzzy ears on his head. “Okay.”

The watch was endless, and Yun Zhao estimated it would last until the next day. During this time, Xiaotong wanted to switch shifts with her, but she refused.
Since she was here, if Qi Yan had any problems, she could ask the system for help to save his life.
“System, can it save him?”
“…Yes, it can.”
Yun Zhao breathed a sigh of relief.
Having a safety net was comforting.
“Go to sleep quickly,” Yun Zhao patted Xiaotong’s little head. “Children need enough rest, or you might not grow tall later.”
Xiaotong was amused but helpless, so she went back.
“I’m not a child! I’m way older than you.”
Yun Zhao didn’t hear her muttering. With nothing else to do, she crossed her legs and began cultivating.
The original owner had an exceptional Fire Spirit Root, so cultivation should have been as simple as eating and drinking, but she had been chasing after Song Zhiyuan and hardly had any time to cultivate.
Following the cultivation method in her memory, Yun Zhao absorbed the spiritual energy of heaven and earth and immersed herself in cultivation. When she opened her eyes again, it was already the next day.
“Foundation establishment, sixth layer? No one can match my cultivation speed!”
Yun Zhao indulged in a little vanity, then got up and knocked on the door. “Qi Yan, how are you feeling now?”
She had sent a thread of her divine awareness while cultivating, so if Qi Yan called her, she would know immediately.
But during this time, she had not been disturbed.
Yun Zhao knocked twice, and when there was no answer, she panicked.
My target, please don’t have anything wrong!
She prepared to knock the door down, but it was pushed open from the inside.
Qi Yan had spent the whole night regulating his breath, barely putting the chaotic spiritual energy in his body in order. Before he could even see the sun outside, someone suddenly bumped into him.
“Ahem!”
Qi Yan struggled to steady himself, glared blackly at the bewildered Yun Zhao, and said, “Yun Zhao, with this bump, are you trying to keep me from seeing today’s sun?”

Yun Zhao: “…”
“Not that bad, not that bad,” she said, stepping out of Qi Yan’s embrace and circling him twice. “Your cultivation… has it fully unsealed?”
Eagerly, Yun Zhao asked, “Which realm are you at now? Why can’t I see through your cultivation?”
Qi Yan responded disdainfully, “Foundation establishment, near perfection. That’s decent enough.”
Yun Zhao: “…”
She took back what she said earlier!
Well, it made sense. In the future, a ruthless character capable of killing both the male and female leads would obviously have cultivation far beyond a mere cannon fodder like her.
Without comparing herself to the villain, she was still pretty impressive.
“Not bad, not bad,” Yun Zhao smiled, her eyes curved. “You worked hard all day and night. I’ll go get Xiaotong to prepare some food to properly nourish you.”
This kid was originally thin and had gotten even thinner after last night.
After eating and drinking well, Qi Yan returned to his room to cultivate, while Yun Zhao went back to check on her Fuguang Sword.
The Fuguang Sword looked the same as before — the blade was pitch black, with only the top of the hilt a faint red, faintly revealing its former glory.
Yun Zhao poked it. “How should I clean you? Should I melt you down and reforged you?”
She didn’t dare to ask anyone else, since to others, the sword was perfectly fine sitting in her storage pouch.
Sitting by the table for a long while, Yun Zhao even tried dripping some blood onto it.
Unfortunately, it was useless.
The blood was absorbed, but the Fuguang Sword showed no reaction.
Yun Zhao decided to temporarily put the sword back into her storage pouch and wait until she found a solution before taking it out again.
Before she could move, a sudden rumble of heavenly thunder came from outside. Startled, Yun Zhao was flung out of the house by the Fuguang Sword!
Yun Zhao: “!”
What was going on? That was heavenly thunder!
She didn’t dare let go, because in just one second, the sword had carried her from inside the house into midair!
The heavenly thunder was brewing above; she didn’t want a close encounter with it!
The Fuguang Sword darted around wildly, as if searching for a target. Yun Zhao controlled her fear and gently coaxed it to come down first.
“Good, good. What are you looking for? Let’s go down first, then I’ll help you find it, okay?”
The sword seemed to “understand” her and slowly descended to the ground. The moment its feet touched down, Yun Zhao quickly grabbed it with lightning speed.
“Damn! Sword, what are you going crazy for? That’s heavenly thunder! Are you trying to die?!”
Still shaken, Yun Zhao scolded the sword.
The Fuguang Sword hummed twice; she wasn’t sure if it understood. Yun Zhao patted it grumpily. “Alright, what are you looking for? I’ll help you find it.”

The sword wasn’t too bad after all — at least it hadn’t dragged her into the dark clouds.
— Mainly, the Fuguang Sword was a bit restless now, and she feared losing control of it.
The sword hummed repeatedly, but Yun Zhao couldn’t understand its meaning. Suddenly, Xiaotong appeared.
“Senior Sister Zhao Zhao, Junior Brother Qi is about to form his Core. He’s at the cliff.”
A red light flashed on the Fuguang Sword; Yun Zhao understood — it was looking for Qi Yan.
So she told Xiaotong and hurried toward the cliff with the Fuguang Sword in hand.
Worrying about protecting Qi Yan, and urged by the sword, Yun Zhao took only a quarter of an hour to reach the cliff.
Then, she saw a scene that left her dumbstruck.
Qi Yan sat cross-legged at the edge of the cliff, surrounded by a vortex of spiritual energy.
Above the vortex, heavenly thunder rumbled. Yun Zhao did not feel much pressure, but the wind was so strong she had to use her spiritual power to resist being blown away.
But…
Yun Zhao was puzzled. “This doesn’t seem like the thunder for Core Formation, does it?”
With this magnitude and power, if you said it was the tribulation thunder for the Nascent Soul stage, she would believe it!
Was this thunder trying to kill Qi Yan?!
“Zhao Zhao.”
Someone called her name from behind. Yun Zhao turned and saw Master Guiyuan and five peak masters.
Song Zhiyuan was not among them, so Yun Zhao sighed in relief.
Master Guiyuan used spiritual power to block the fierce wind and asked, “What’s going on here?”
Yun Zhao felt less pressured and quickly replied, “Sect Leader, Qi Yan is forming his Core…”
The Golden Peak Master interrupted loudly, “Forming Core? Impossible! Even my Nascent Soul tribulation thunder hasn’t been this strong!”
Yun Zhao shrugged. “Then I don’t know.”
Master Guiyuan’s expression grew solemn. “Never mind that for now. If Qi Yan can’t resist, we strike immediately.”
Before the peak masters could respond, the first bolt of heavenly thunder had already brewed and struck down fiercely toward Qi Yan!
Yun Zhao focused all her attention on Qi Yan. Her hands emptied, and she saw the Fuguang Sword madly charging toward him.
It looked as if it was ready to fight to the death with Qi Yan.
“Fuguang,” Yun Zhao’s face changed drastically. “Come back!”
