Lin Ye obediently stood in front of Uncle Ning this time, cooperating fully throughout the fitting. After taking his measurements, Uncle Ning thought for a moment before walking over to a row of cabinets.

He took out a pure black suit, then retrieved a black leather belt from the top of the cabinet. Turning around, he handed them to Lin Ye and said, “The fitting room is on your left.”

Lin Ye accepted the suit and went into the fitting room.

The white shirt fit quite well, as did the vest, which hugged Lin Ye’s figure comfortably. The suit trousers were also just the right length and size.

The jacket, however, was a little small. After buttoning it up and moving around a bit, Lin Ye discovered that he could not make any particularly large movements. Still, the fabric felt exceptionally smooth and delicate, and the stitching was neat and precise. It clearly looked like a high-quality garment.

Leaving the buttons undone made things somewhat better. For now, he could only make do with it. The one piece of good news was that Lin Ye had broad enough shoulders to carry the suit without shoulder pads.

After coming out, Lin Ye asked how much the suit cost. Uncle Ning exchanged a subtle glance with Zhang Wen before saying, “This suit was ordered by a customer, but he paid for it and then decided he didn’t want it. Just give me thirteen thousand.”

Thirteen thousand.

Lin Ye gritted his teeth and paid by card. He did not know much about suits, but the quality of the one he was wearing now was comparable to the suit he had worn when he married Su Qing. It was clearly no cheap garment.

Even so, his heart was bleeding. Thirteen thousand yuan had vanished just like that. When had he ever made such a huge purchase? He would probably lie awake all night.

Having settled the matter weighing on his mind, he invited Zhang Wen to dinner after work. Since he had something to do the next day, neither of them drank. They simply ate a meal and then went home.

That night, Lin Ye had a dream. He dreamed that when he met President Su the next day, the woman who appeared in the café was Su Qing. Her lips moved repeatedly, as though she wanted to tell him something.

Unfortunately, before he could hear a word, he woke up.

It was exactly one minute before the alarm he had set for the morning. After putting on the new suit he had bought—the one that was slightly too small—Lin Ye realized he would have to give up his usual steamed buns that morning.

If he stained the suit, washing it would be a minor issue. But if he left a bad impression on the general manager, all his previous efforts would be wasted.

When Lin Ye arrived at the company in his suit, he once again gave his female colleagues a fresh visual shock. Although the suit was a little tight on him, that very snugness brought out a sense of strength.

Lin Ye had no idea what the others were thinking. All he wanted was to hurry back to the office and take off his jacket. Not that the suit was uncomfortable to wear.

He was simply accustomed to wearing clothes that were loose and casual. He truly was not used to suits.

Emerald Manor was nearly forty minutes away from their company by car. After finally making it to around nine o’clock, Lin Ye drove the Mercedes provided by the company to the café for his appointment.

The car came to a steady stop at the entrance of Emerald Manor, and Lin Ye immediately spotted Encounter Café, which occupied the space of several shops.

Emerald Manor looked extremely upscale from the outside. There were no buildings higher than five stories anywhere in the area, and the entire place had the appearance of a collection of large and small villas.

Even the security personnel at the entrance were completely different from those at ordinary residential communities. If he had to describe the difference, the guards at Emerald Manor looked more like active-duty soldiers. Their eyes and movements were unmistakably military.

After parking, Lin Ye straightened his tie and collar before striding toward the café.

When he pushed open the door, the faint fragrance of freshly ground coffee beans drifted into his nose. Lin Ye knew little about coffee beans, but he felt that coffee made from beans like these must surely be fragrant.

The sunlight approaching noon was not particularly strong. Passing through the glass that covered half the wall, it spread evenly across the café’s wooden floor.

Apart from the server behind the counter, the only person in the café was a girl sitting by the window, visible to Lin Ye only from behind.

She wore a simple yet elegant white dress. Her hair, dark as the night sky, shimmered beneath the sunlight with a faintly dazzling luster.

Surprise filled Lin Ye’s eyes. He slowly backed away, wanting to leave the café called Encounter.

At that moment, the girl by the window turned her head. Her glossy black hair swayed and spilled outward with the motion, becoming a unique and captivating sight in Lin Ye’s eyes.

“Lin Ye, why do you keep trying to hide from me?”

The girl’s gentle voice circled softly beside Lin Ye’s ear. It seemed to possess a magical power capable of controlling him, making him stop retreating.

At that moment, Lin Ye felt his heart beating faster and faster. The surrounding world seemed to fade away until only he and the girl before him remained.

There was no need to deceive himself any longer. Su Qing had recognized him long ago.

He simply had never known how to face her.

“Do you have time to sit down and talk?” Su Qing twirled a strand of her long hair around one finger.

Lin Ye slowly walked over and sat down opposite her, but he kept his eyes turned toward the window, as if he did not dare look into hers.

“Is there anything interesting to look at outside? Could it possibly be more beautiful than me?” Su Qing rested her arms on the table, propped her chin in both hands, and gazed at Lin Ye with an amused smile.

“No. There’s nothing more beautiful than you.” Perhaps influenced by the ill-fitting suit he was wearing, Lin Ye’s tone had become stiff as well—almost stammering.

“You weren’t like this when you were in the hospital, you know. I remember someone saying that once I woke up, he would go see the ocean with me and take me to many different places.”

Su Qing’s jewel-like, crystal-clear eyes never left Lin Ye’s profile for even an instant, and there was a hint of laughter in her voice.

The restless heart in Lin Ye’s chest gradually calmed beneath Su Qing’s words. It seemed that as long as he stayed by her side and heard her voice, he could slowly find peace.

“Lin Ye, you said you would always stay by my side. Have you forgotten?”

A flush appeared on Su Qing’s fair cheeks. When Lin Ye turned to her and saw the shy expression on the girl before him, he froze completely.

At that moment, he seemed to understand something. All this time, he had been retreating. But now, he no longer wanted to take another step backward. Compared with him, the girl before him seemed to possess even greater courage.

The feelings that had been suppressed and buried for so long erupted in an instant, like a volcano that had been building pressure for years.

Lin Ye abruptly rose to his feet and caught the delicate hand that was already almost within reach of him. A familiar sensation surged through his heart.
