Chapter Twenty-Eight: A Prickling Sensation on the Scalp
Lin Ye was remarkably efficient when it came to cleaning.
However, physical labor inevitably led to sweating, and his white shirt, dampened by perspiration, clung tightly to the contours of his muscles. As he made his rounds with a bucket to change the water, beautiful female colleagues would always manage to catch a glimpse of his chiseled eight-pack abs from the most cunning of angles.
Lin Ye simply thought the company atmosphere was wonderful. His colleagues were all kind people, and beautiful ones at that; whenever they saw sweat on his face, they would walk over to offer him tissues. Some even went as far as wanting to wipe his brow themselves, which left Lin Ye feeling quite embarrassed.
Politely declining the kind gestures of the lovely ladies, Lin Ye finished his cleaning duties with speed. Once everything was in order, he returned to the office.
At ten o’clock sharp, he called President Su. He wanted to leave a good impression on this woman he had yet to meet. After all, he was her secretary; if she deemed him unsuitable, this high-paying job he had just landed would vanish before he could even settle into it.
Lin Ye dialed the number on his phone. On the fourth ring, a rather cold and detached voice answered from the other end.
"Hello? Who is this?"
"Good morning, President Su. This is Lin Ye."
"I know. Lin Ye, right? You’re quite punctual."
Upon realizing it was Lin Ye on the line, the coldness in President Su’s voice vanished, seemingly replaced by a hint of a smile.
"Lin Ye, my situation is a bit unique, so I won’t be able to make it into the office for the time being. You can start by familiarizing yourself with the various departments in the company. I will email you the personnel list shortly."
"Understood, President Su."
"Very well. That will be all. We shall meet later for a brief chat. Wait for my notification; I will send you the time and place in advance."
The call with his direct superior ended just as abruptly as it had begun. As for her mention of a later meeting, Lin Ye instinctively viewed it as an interview of sorts. He figured that whether or not he could truly establish his footing in this company would depend on the outcome of that meeting.
...
The message that arrived sooner than President Su’s was from Jiang Qingge in the Design Department. It was short, but it seemed to carry a wealth of implication.
"Little brother Lin Ye, you can come over now. Don’t keep your sister waiting too long, okay?"
Two minutes later, Lin Ye appeared in Jiang Qingge’s office.
"Little brother Lin Ye, I’ve been waiting and wishing, and you’ve finally arrived."
As she spoke, Jiang Qingge gave him a playful, teasing wink.
Lin Ye kept telling himself that she was a top-tier designer; it was only natural for designers to have lively, eccentric personalities. It was harmless.
"Take your clothes off, little brother Lin Ye," Jiang Qingge said, raising an eyebrow with a smile that seemed ready to spill over.
"Right here in your office?" Lin Ye instinctively clutched his collar.
"Goodness, you certainly have a vivid imagination. There is a hidden dressing room to the back right. Go inside and change into the clothes I’ve prepared for you."
Jiang Qingge covered her cherry lips with a hand, her long, narrow eyes curving into crescents. It was clear she was growing increasingly fond of teasing him.
Lin Ye breathed a small sigh of relief. Although he had agreed to be a model for the Design Department, he had stipulated that he would not wear anything bizarre, and that all undergarments would be modest. As for the pay, Jiang Qingge had offered five thousand per session!
Once inside the dressing room, Lin Ye picked up the garments and checked them. Everything was fine—they were indeed standard men’s undergarments, including undershirts and trousers, all made of high-quality materials.
However, he had no idea what was waiting for him outside the dressing room.
