"Alright, coming right up."

Xiao Li trotted over to Lin Ye, holding a palm-sized device. "Secretary Lin, which finger would you like to register?"

The images in his mind shattered into nothingness. Lin Ye stared blankly at Xiao Li, making the young woman feel somewhat self-conscious.

"The index finger will do." As he spoke, Lin Ye placed his right index finger on the device.

After capturing the fingerprint, Xiao Li flitted away like a gust of wind.

"That’s all for now. If you have any questions, you can ask me, or go to the front desk and ask Xiao Li; she’s considered one of the company's veteran employees." Zhao Zhi patted Lin Ye on the shoulder, a strange glint in his eyes. "Oh, and keep an eye on your email."

Only after watching Zhao Zhi step into the elevator and leave did Lin Ye finally return to his senses. He headed back to his office and sank into the plush, incredibly comfortable executive chair.

The small notebook containing the General Manager’s phone number had somehow already been placed by Zhao Zhi in front of the computer screen on Lin Ye’s desk.

His right hand, as if acting on its own accord, picked up the small black leather-bound notebook embossed with the company logo and flipped to the only page with writing on it.

Could it really be such a coincidence? He had no connections, no background, yet he was selected for a position with such generous benefits.

Is it possible, he wondered, that this "General Manager Su" is Su Qing, who was just discharged from the hospital? The timing matches up quite well... The photograph on Zhang Wen’s phone flashed through his mind. The new company executive’s silhouette also looked remarkably like Su Qing.

Although these conjectures sounded far-fetched—and Lin Ye knew they were—he couldn't help but lean toward the possibility of it being her.

Fortunately, he hadn't forgotten his actual duties. The computer on his desk boasted top-tier specs; it booted up several times faster than the one he used in college. He pressed the power button, and in the brief moment he spent lost in thought, the system was already up and running.

What do guys do when they get a new computer? Naturally, they check the specs. He launched the hardware diagnostic tool immediately.

Wow! The configuration was impressive. Even a computer novice would understand the value of a full ROG build powered by an RTX 4090 graphics card.

Recalling Zhao Zhi’s parting instructions, Lin Ye logged into his work email and then scoured the computer for files. He wanted to see if the previous secretary had left any handover documents, but unfortunately, the machine had been wiped clean. If he hadn't seen the activation date of the system, he would have suspected it was a brand-new machine prepared specifically for him.

Sighing, Lin Ye took out his phone, opened the ChuiChui app, found Zhao Zhi in the company’s organizational chart, and dialed.

Seeing "Lin Ye" on the caller ID, Zhao Zhi was slightly surprised. He had just left, and the man was calling him already?

"Secretary Lin? What’s the matter? Is there something you don't understand?" His tone remained professional and patient. After all, who wouldn't want to maintain a good relationship with the General Manager’s secretary? That was, after all, the closest position to the General Manager.

"Nothing, Manager Zhao. I just wanted to ask if there were any handover files or materials left by the previous secretary..." Lin Ye felt a bit embarrassed.

To his surprise, Zhao Zhi fell silent at the question, making Lin Ye wonder if his phone was malfunctioning. Zhao Zhi had been caught off guard by the seemingly casual question; in his ears, he seemed to hear the warnings of that woman.

Composing himself, Zhao Zhi replied, "The previous secretary did not leave any handover materials. Due to the unique nature of this position, you will need to spend some time learning from each department in the company." After a few seconds of hesitation, he added, "You should receive the detailed arrangements in your company email shortly."

The call ended, and within two minutes, Lin Ye heard the notification chime for a new email. However, he hadn't been to the restroom all morning, and his bladder was signaling an urgent protest. Abandoning all thought, he let instinct take over and headed for the restroom.

Young men are certainly in good health; if Lin Ye hadn't consciously held back, the high-pressure stream would have at least splashed onto the toilet lid. The relief seemed to drain the heat from his body, ending with that final involuntary shudder—the sign of true satisfaction.

He hadn't even pulled up his pants when his phone started ringing. Thinking it was something urgent, he quickly zipped up, washed his hands, and answered without even looking at the screen.

"Damn it! Old Lin, did you see it? Did you check the company-wide email? The new General Manager’s secretary actually has the same name as you!"

Lin Ye was about to say something, but Zhang Wen, still in shock, continued, "If I hadn't just been to the admin department looking at photos of girls with you, I would've thought you’d really hit the big time!"

Lin Ye’s mouth twitched. He opened and closed his mouth several times, but what could he say? Zhang Wen had already laid it all out.

"Hey? Wait a minute, something’s wrong! How could the company not pick you to be the secretary? Damn it! Our Old Lin has the build, the looks, and the talent. The company leader must be some old crone who doesn't know how to appreciate your handsomeness."

Zhang Wen rambled on for a while before realizing that Lin Ye hadn't said a single word since answering. Squinting, he finally sensed that something was slightly off. He tentatively asked, "Old Lin? Why aren't you saying anything? Blink if you've been kidnapped."

Five seconds later, he finally heard Lin Ye’s voice.

"Old Zhang, let's just say, is it possible that I am the only person named Lin Ye in this company? Why don't you open ChuiChui and search for my name?"

Zhang Wen’s eyes widened. He pulled the phone away from his ear without hanging up and searched for "Lin Ye" on the app. He received a piece of news that was half-good.

There was indeed only one Lin Ye in the company, and their chat history was still there. The small line of text under Lin Ye’s name was blindingly clear: *Position: General Manager’s Secretary.*

Even though Lin Ye had anticipated this and held the phone well away from his ear once Zhang Wen stopped talking, the sound from the other end was still deafening.

"Holy crap! Where the hell are you right now?!"
