Chapter 16: The Stolen Fiancé

Fu Chen felt a pang of sourness. Strictly speaking, he had known Jing Yunluo longer, but the amount of time they had spent together...
“Later, Gu Ning went abroad to study, so we hardly saw each other. He only returned three or four years ago.”
“You two seem quite close.”
Jing Yunluo nodded. “Mm.”
Fu Chen fell silent.
Only then did Jing Yunluo realize something was wrong. She turned to him. “Wait a minute. You’re not jealous again, are you?”
Fu Chen remained silent, and his silence was as good as an admission.
Jing Yunluo found it rather amusing. “Didn’t I already explain it to you? Gu Ning and I really have nothing going on.”
Fu Chen sighed. “I’m only angry with myself. Why wasn’t I by your side whenever you needed me?”
“Fu Chen, don’t dwell on the past. Look at the present! As long as we’re together now and in the future, isn’t that enough?”
“Mm!”
[Host, the target’s affection has increased by five percent. Current affection: seventy-five percent. Please keep up the good work!]
Jing Yunluo could hardly believe it. Why did Fu Chen suddenly seem so much easier to win over? Was it just her imagination?
“Second Uncle and Wanwan’s wedding should be settled soon.”
Jing Yunluo deliberately changed the subject, worried that Fu Chen would become fixated on the past.
“Then once that happens, can we put our wedding on the agenda too?”
Fu Chen’s eyes lit up at once.
Jing Yunluo pursed her lips. “I told you, my second uncle has to agree first!”
“Don’t worry. I’ll find a way to get his approval!”
Fu Chen looked utterly confident.
However, judging from the current situation, Jing Yan probably would not have the time to concern himself with their affairs anytime soon.
After all, now that his legs had recovered, he ought to start thinking about the major matter of marriage.
“Second Uncle, you’ve handed all the company’s affairs over to me. Isn’t that a little unfair?”
Jing Yunluo stared at the mountain of documents before her and suddenly felt as though she were reviewing memorials from court.
Jing Yunluo: Why do I suddenly sympathize with the emperor?
“I need to undergo rehabilitation, and I also have to prepare for the wedding. I’ll have to trouble you for a while,” Jing Yan said as though it were the most natural thing in the world.
Jing Yunluo wore an expression of utter despair. “Second Uncle, is this how you repay the person who cured you?”

Jing Yan smiled and nodded. “How about this? When you get married, I’ll give you three months of wedding leave. You won’t have to concern yourself with anything at the company. How does that sound?”
Jing Yunluo shrugged. “My wedding is still a long way off.”
“Are you not afraid Fu Chen will cry when he hears you say that?”
“Oh, what’s the harm? I’m just putting him to the test!”
Jing Yunluo thought of that seventy-five-percent affection rating, and her heart sank a little.
Meanwhile, Su Wanwan was having a meal with Fu Chen.
“Brother Chen, this is my sincerity. Take a look... Is it enough?”
Su Wanwan pushed a document envelope across the table toward Fu Chen.
Fu Chen did not even look at it. He simply flung it back. “Su Wanwan, I told you. Don’t appear in front of me again.”
“Fu Chen, these are thirty percent of the Su family’s shares! Are you sure you don’t want them?”
Su Wanwan was growing impatient as well.
Fu Chen smiled, his tone laced with mockery. “Is that so? As far as I remember, the Su family’s shares aren’t worth much. You think thirty percent of the shares can buy you the position of Mrs. Fu? Su Wanwan, you must be dreaming.”
The moment Su Wanwan heard the words “Mrs. Fu,” she suddenly calmed down. “Brother Chen, think carefully. Between me and Jing Yunluo, who are you really going to choose?”
“What makes you think I would choose you?”
Fu Chen was genuinely curious.
“Because my mother still holds ten percent of the Jing family’s shares.”
Fu Chen’s hand paused as he reached for a dish.
Su Wanwan noticed and assumed that he had been tempted by the shares. “I know how much you value the company’s development, and I also know that the Fu family has been doing very well lately. But... no one ever complains about having too much money, right? To be honest, I don’t believe Jing Yunluo can bring you any good fortune. You don’t believe it either, do you?”
Su Wanwan believed she understood Fu Chen well enough to speak with complete confidence.
“How do you know I don’t believe it?”
Fu Chen threw the question back at her.
Su Wanwan was stunned. “You... But don’t you find that kind of talk ridiculous?”
“Our ancestors said that one should marry a virtuous wife. With a virtuous wife at home, everything will naturally go smoothly.”
Seeing how serious Fu Chen looked, Su Wanwan began to panic.
“What exactly has Jing Yunluo done to bewitch you? How can you trust her so completely?”
“Miss Su, you would do well not to appear in front of me so casually in the future. My fiancée doesn’t like it.”

“What fiancée? The two of you clearly called off your engagement!”
“Did we? Did either the Fu family or the Jing family publicly acknowledge it? No, did they?”
Fu Chen smiled smugly.
Only then did Su Wanwan realize that it was true. Although everyone in their circles knew that the Jing and Fu families had called off the engagement, neither family had publicly acknowledged it. They had never even answered the question.
They had neither confirmed nor denied it.
But as long as they had not confirmed it, no one could claim that the engagement had been called off. Wasn’t that so?
“Fu Chen, you clearly said that I was better than Jing Yunluo!”
“Did I? I don’t remember. Even if I really said it, that was the Fu Chen of the past—the blind Fu Chen. But I’ve recovered now. I’m no longer blind, so what does that have to do with the person I am today?”
Fu Chen looked shamelessly carefree. Su Wanwan had never seen this side of him before.
“Hmph! Just you wait! Fu Chen, I’m telling you, anything that belongs to Jing Yunluo, I’ll snatch it away from her, no matter what it is! Including you!”
With that, Su Wanwan turned and walked away.
Fu Chen finally understood why Su Wanwan had opposed Jing Yunluo all these years. It turned out that she simply enjoyed taking things that belonged to other people.
After Su Wanwan left, Fu Chen called Jing Yunluo.
“Did you know that Liu Yueru holds ten percent of the Jing family’s shares?”
Jing Yunluo had barely answered the phone when she heard those words. She did not quite react at first. Then she thought back over the plot.
“Oh, I know. She holds shares in the jewelry company, but over the years I’ve gradually bought back quite a lot of them. I can guarantee that Liu Yueru has no more than two percent left now.”
“That’s good.”
Fu Chen knew how much Jing Yunluo treasured the Jing family’s company. After all, it represented the hard work of her grandfather and father. And now that her father was gone, she cherished it all the more.
“But how did you find out about this?”
Jing Yunluo was puzzled.
“Oh, your cousin came to see me just now. She wanted to trade those ten percent of the shares for the position of Mrs. Fu.”
“And then?”
“Then I laughed at her for a while and sent her away. How was that? I was obedient, wasn’t I?”
That tone of Fu Chen’s could only make Jing Yunluo think of a large dog eagerly seeking praise.
