Volume One, Chapter Six: No One Is More Handsome Than Him
Seeing the Mercedes G-Class signal, Zhou Cong immediately turned back and jumped into the passenger seat.
Before he had even settled, he heard Mo Lingcheng’s cold voice: "Find a reason to transfer five million to her account."
Zhou Cong looked at Mo Lingcheng, puzzled. Was he no longer offering her a choice between the two?
Mo Lingcheng’s expression was dark, his black eyes filled with obvious sarcasm and self-mockery. Zhou Cong understood immediately. Mo Lingcheng had sharp hearing; he must have heard what Shen Qingqing said earlier. The boss had gone out of his way to offer her a chance to choose, yet she hadn't given him a second thought, intent only on going to the Mo Corporation to find someone younger.
Although their boss was twenty-nine—not exactly young—and his personality was indeed a bit rigid, let alone "interesting," this kind of precise strike from Shen Qingqing was going too far.
As the G-Class sped past the hospital entrance, Shen Qingqing’s call continued: "Sister Qin, actually, after the engagement is annulled, I want to spend some time at the border of the Republic of Li."
In her previous life, she had revolved entirely around Xu Mingxuan, leaving many things undone and unconsidered. Living again, aside from staying away from that scumbag, she wanted to uncover her past. The old director of the orphanage said she had been found by peacekeepers in the southern part of the Republic of Li. After being brought back to the country, she had remained silent, answering no questions, leading everyone to believe she was mute. With no other options, the military had sent her to the orphanage. On her first night there, she had suffered from a high fever, crying out for her mother. When she woke up the next day, she had lost all memories prior to that night.
She had always wanted to know if her parents had died in that military conflict or if they had intentionally abandoned her. Were they still alive? If so, how were they living now?
—
One week after returning to the capital, Shen Qingqing received her employment offer from the Mo Corporation. Following the instructions, she arrived at Jiudui Village in Han City on time to begin her probationary period as a new employee on the new project.
The Jiudui Village project was a key initiative for the Mo Corporation’s Cultural Relics Division. If she could pass the practical assessment here and successfully secure a permanent position, she would be able to enter the headquarters as she wished and search for information regarding the "Lian Cang Jing."
The project team had arranged a private shuttle to pick up new employees from the high-speed rail station. When the shuttle arrived at the hotel where the project department was based, the new hires praised the Mo Corporation. "The Mo Corporation is truly wealthy; they’ve actually arranged for us to stay in a five-star hotel."
"Exactly, I was fully prepared to stay in a prefab house."
"I heard the quota for becoming a permanent employee is three out of six, so we’ll be competing against each other..."
"It’s two out of five. I heard someone has already been internally selected."
"No way?" Shen Qingqing, who had been listening silently, spoke up in doubt. The Mo Corporation was too powerful to need to curry favor with anyone through backroom deals.
The girl who got off behind her lowered her voice and replied: "Haven't you noticed? There are only five of us new employees on the bus."
This girl was Xiao Meimei. She had sat next to Shen Qingqing on the bus and was warm and outgoing. Although her voice was soft, it was loud enough for everyone to hear. The five new employees instinctively looked at one another.
Just then, a blue long-wheelbase Porsche Panamera pulled up to the hotel entrance. Shen Qingqing frowned; she recognized the car—it was Xu Mingxuan’s.
Xu Mingxuan, dressed in a black motorcycle jacket, stepped out of the driver's seat with flair. His newly dyed chestnut short hair was dazzling under the white streetlights. He walked gentlemanly to the passenger side to welcome a slender, long-haired woman in white. The woman wore a shy, affectionate smile on her exquisitely made-up face. It was Xu Minyu.
A new employee nearby recognized Xu Mingxuan: "That’s the only son of the Xu family, Xu Mingxuan." Xu Mingxuan was always high-profile and frequently appeared in the public eye.
"Then is that beautiful woman his beloved fiancée?" Shen Qingqing rarely attended banquets in the capital's social circles, and when she was occasionally photographed, Xu Mingxuan would demand the media blur her face. Therefore, it wasn't the first time passersby had mistaken Xu Minyu for her.
"It seems the internal selection is real. Xu Mingxuan is the new president’s nephew. Of course his girlfriend would be internally selected."
Xu Minyu walked toward the hotel entrance, arm-in-arm with Xu Mingxuan. When they saw Shen Qingqing, their steps faltered. Xu Mingxuan’s brow furrowed, his eyes locked on Shen Qingqing. Xu Minyu tugged his arm gently, reminding him, "Little Uncle is still waiting for us." Xu Mingxuan glared at Shen Qingqing before pulling Xu Minyu into the hotel.
"Little Uncle? You mean our president?" The new employees were buzzing.
"Then we’re in for a treat," Xiao Meimei said excitedly.
"What? You dare to covet our president?" a male colleague laughed.
Xiao Meimei widened her eyes and jokingly scolded, "You’re brave! The Mo family is the top lineage in the capital. It’s a blessing for us working-class people just to catch a glimpse of him."
"As if you’ve actually seen him..." a tall girl retorted sourly.
"Hey! I actually have," Xiao Meimei countered, unwilling to back down.
"Tell us, what does he look like?" the boy asked curiously. "In case we run into him one day, we’ll know..."
Xiao Meimei thought for a moment, looking helpless. "My vocabulary is too limited; no words seem enough to describe him. In short, the moment you see him, you’ll realize that no one is better looking than him."
The tall girl gave a contemptuous smile. "I think you’re just bragging."
Xiao Meimei frowned, wanting to say more, but Shen Qingqing reminded her, "It’s time to go in and report."
Shen Qingqing knew Xiao Meimei wasn't lying. Although she hadn't met this mysterious young master of the capital, she had heard Xu Mingxuan say that he didn't submit to anyone except this "Little Uncle." Both in terms of looks and ability, he was far superior to him.
Shen Qingqing suddenly remembered the man in the camouflage gear in the valley. If she were to describe his appearance, she would also find herself at a loss for words. Apart from "good-looking" and "charismatic," no other words seemed appropriate.
Shen Qingqing glanced at the hotel lobby, thinking: If Mo Lingcheng was really here, her plan to "hug his thigh" could be advanced. Xiao Meimei was right; the Mo family was not something one could easily climb, and she had to have a meticulous plan.
Subsequently, the five new employees, led by the HR department, entered the hotel lobby. The person in charge of HR led them toward the conference room, sternly admonishing them as they walked: "I’m sure you all understand the importance of this project to the Mo Corporation. Headquarters has specifically arranged for a senior leader to oversee the site. Once we enter the conference room, be mindful of your words and actions. For this probationary assessment, he has the power of absolute veto."
The new employees looked at each other, wondering if this senior leader was Mo Lingcheng.
Technical staff were already waiting at the entrance of the conference room. Once everyone had arrived, the doors were slowly pushed open. A dozen people filed in silently, and the room fell deathly quiet.
Out of curiosity, Shen Qingqing lifted her gaze slightly toward the man sitting at the head of the table. He was dressed very formally in a high-end black suit with a light-colored striped shirt underneath. He was tall, with broad shoulders and a narrow waist; even while sitting, his posture was upright, and his proportions were perfect.
Shen Qingqing couldn't help but look up, her gaze landing on his face. Upon seeing his features, she was stunned. His features were three-dimensional, his facial contours sharp and angular, and his bronze skin was smooth and textured. His sword-like eyebrows were sharp and imposing, and his thin lips were a deep, rich red.
He was the man in the camouflage gear from the valley!
