Chapter Fifteen: Running into Each Other Again at the Cafeteria

Duan Jinyan’s dark eyes fixed on the departing figures of the two, his brow slightly furrowed, as if he did not quite understand.
He couldn’t comprehend how someone like Jiang Wuyang, with such a personality, could have friends…
Unable to come to a conclusion, he turned to glance at Ruan An’an, who was already sitting upright in class.
A trace of softness spilled into his gaze.
If it weren’t for An’an back then, he probably would have already…
Thinking this, his eyes returned to Jiang Wuyang’s retreating back.
That softness instantly hardened into a cold, merciless glare, like a sharp blade capable of piercing through the person before him.
He stared fixedly for several seconds. Only after Jiang Wuyang disappeared around the corner did Duan Jinyan take a step forward, heading toward the teaching building for the senior year classes.
Jiang Wuyang returned to Science Class A with a cheerful smile.
She arrived just in time for the next lesson.
Coincidentally, this class was led by the dean of discipline.
The dean had long known about Jiang Wuyang’s transfer and was very much in favor of it.
Thus, throughout the lesson, the dean’s gaze was filled with satisfaction and pleasure.
This left the usually anxious students of Science Class A feeling unexpectedly honored.
Yet everyone knew it was because of Jiang Wuyang, and their joy at her joining their class deepened.
However, the happiest was likely the math class representative.
After all, when Jiang Wuyang was in the liberal arts class, she had long held the top spot in math.
This meant the math representative had always been secretly competing with her but never managed to surpass her.
Now that Jiang Wuyang was in their class, there was no need to compete; they could even ask her for help with difficult problems.
The math class representative’s cheeks were now tinged with pink as he kept sneaking glances at Jiang Wuyang.
Why had no one told him she looked like this?
She probably didn’t even know about his past secret competitions with her, right? Probably not.
Mu Ziye sat bored at his desk, spinning a pen, his gaze fixed on Jiang Wuyang listening attentively.
A faint smile curved his lips, and a quiet anticipation for their shared lunch grew in his heart.
The morning classes passed quickly.
It was time for lunch.
Jiang Wuyang waved at Mu Ziye, signaling him to join her.
Mu Ziye leisurely followed behind Jiang Wuyang to the cafeteria.
Only upon arriving did he realize that the anticipated intimate lunch for two had somehow become a gathering of several people.
Mu Ziye stared expressionlessly at the five people standing behind Jiang Wuyang.

Utterly speechless, he couldn’t help but let out a soft chuckle.
Jiang Wuyang, unusually sheepish, cleared her throat twice.
“Well, since everyone helped me out, and since I’m treating, then everyone should eat together.”
Mu Ziye remained silent, but Sang Wan was delighted.
“Mu Ziye, come on, come on, sit with us!”
Mu Ziye was quite the mystery in their class.
Apart from attending lessons, no one knew what he did.
He was rebellious all day but never talked back to teachers; some said he was polite yet liked to retort others; others said he was rude but would apologize if he stepped on someone’s toes.
In short, he was a walking contradiction.
Sang Wan, eager to get to know him, had noticed he seemed uninterested in mingling with classmates, always aloof.
So it was surprising that today he would take the initiative to help Jiang Wuyang.
Indeed! Their Yangyang was just so likable!
After everyone got their meals, they sat together.
They ate while chatting.
Jiang Wuyang was cold by nature, and Mu Ziye was taciturn, so the conversation was mostly carried by Sang Wan and a few others.
“Hey Yangyang, the school sports meet registration is coming up. Are you going to participate in any events?”
“I remember the rules say no one can sign up for more than three events, and each event must have someone from the class signed up. If spots aren’t filled, they’ll probably draw lots.”
Sang Wan wore a worried expression.
Since there were so few girls in their science class, this rule practically meant all the girls had to participate, leaving only a few who truly lacked athletic talent out.
It was quite a dilemma.
Jiang Wuyang nodded slightly.
“Yes, I’ll sign up. I’ll decide on the events later.”
To Sang Wan’s ears, Jiang Wuyang’s words sounded like heavenly music.
“That’s great! I was worried I wouldn’t find enough people!”
Mu Ziye paused mid-bite, glanced at Jiang Wuyang, and snorted lightly.
“With your tiny frame? Hardly impressive.”
Jiang Wuyang smiled and repressed her anger, softly uttering one word: “Go.”
Everyone burst into laughter at Jiang Wuyang’s teasing.
Seeing Mu Ziye lose face made it even funnier.
Mu Ziye curled his lips but said nothing, lowering his head to eat quietly.
Yet as he lowered his head, the faint curve of his mouth betrayed his true feelings.

The atmosphere here was warm and harmonious.
Elsewhere,
Although Jiang Yiran’s group was also eating, their gazes instinctively fell on Jiang Wuyang’s group not far away.
They didn’t know what was being said, but Jiang Wuyang smiled slightly, her eyes sparkling.
Watching them laugh and chat, Jiang Yiran felt an inexplicable ache.
It seemed things shouldn’t be this way. Jiang Wuyang should be on their side, the ones sharing such joyful smiles.
He lowered his head, eating without taste.
Wen Mubai was still eating with them today.
But his expression was less than pleasant.
He hadn’t expected the cafeteria at Yun City No. 1 High School to be so expensive.
Twelve yuan for one meat and one vegetable dish.
Before, Jiang Wuyang always got the food, and he just sat at the table waiting, so he never had to spend money.
After all, if Jiang Wuyang wanted to eat with them, she had to contribute somehow.
Usually, after evening tutoring, they would eat together at Jiang’s home.
But now, for some unknown reason, Jiang Wuyang had gone mad and actually transferred to Science Class A. That was bad enough, but she didn’t even eat with them anymore.
Seeing Jiang Wuyang paying for all their meals only made Wen Mubai’s face darken further.
What on earth was wrong with Jiang Wuyang’s mind?!
Not eating with them, yet inviting a bunch of new acquaintances to dinner—was she really that starved for affection?!
Noticing Jiang Yiran and Wen Mubai’s gazes fixed on Jiang Wuyang’s table, Ruan An’an felt a pang of worry.
She hadn’t expected Jiang Wuyang’s transfer to attract the seniors’ attention.
Clearing her throat, she spoke with a tone of envy.
“I didn’t expect Sister Yangyang to make so many friends right after transferring—she’s so lucky.”
“But it looks like Sister Yangyang is paying for all their meals. Aren’t they taking advantage of her?”
“Does Sister Yangyang have to please them like this?”
Ruan An’an’s words seemed to defend Jiang Wuyang.
Jiang Yiran and Wen Mubai’s eyes remained locked on that table.
