Chapter 57 Tomorrow You Will Be Well-Behaved
Xiang Yu wore a disdainful expression and said, "Of course you can't just untie me directly. Go get a small blade and I will cut myself loose. That way, Mom and Dad will think I managed to reach the blade myself and it will have nothing to do with you."
Xiang Hao nodded hastily, agreeing that this made sense, and turned to look for a blade.
Xiang Yu hurriedly stopped him, "On the floor, there is one in my pencil box."
Watching Xiang Hao retrieve the small blade she used for sharpening pencils, Xiang Yu felt her heart race and grew involuntarily tense, terrified that all her efforts would fall short at the final hurdle.
As expected, Xiang Hao started acting up again, "Then when are you going to give me the five hundred yuan? What if you run away just like the eldest sister, and I end up with nothing?"
Xiang Yu gritted her teeth, instantly returning to an indifferent demeanor, "Suit yourself then. I still have ten yuan hidden away. If you untie me, I can give you ten yuan as a deposit first. I'll give you the remaining 490 next time, otherwise you won't get a single penny."
At the dining table, Xiang Fuqiang chewed his food and said somewhat indistinctly, "What time is Reverend Mother Liu arriving tomorrow? Keeping her tied up like this isn't right, her blood circulation is going to get cut off."
Li Meilan's mouth was full of food as she spoke through it, "Why worry about her? Do you feel sorry for her, and did she ever feel sorry for us? Just an ungrateful wretch. Reverend Mother Liu said she'll rent a motorcycle to get here in the morning, and after finishing the ritual, she'll have lunch at our house."
Xiang Fuqiang nodded, "Alright then. Later on, go have Xiang Yu use the bathroom, and then we'll go to sleep early. Rest up well, so we can smoothly drive the unclean spirit away tomorrow."
Li Meilan nodded unhappily.
Xiang Hao hesitated for a moment. Hearing footsteps approaching, he panicked and shoved the small blade directly into Xiang Yu's hand.
Xiang Yu nonchalantly concealed the finger-length blade within her palm.
Li Meilan walked in and, seeing Xiang Hao, frowned, "What are you doing here? Go outside and play."
The terrifying ferocity Li Meilan had displayed while beating Xiang Yu still lingered. Startled, Xiang Hao quickly explained, "I was just talking to Xiang Yu, telling her to hand over her money to Mom and Dad, and to listen to them."
Li Meilan's expression softened, and she broke into a smile at her precious son, "My Haohao is still the good one. Girls always lean outward; they're just not as considerate and filial as my youngest son."
Xiang Hao murmured assent and quickly scurried outside.
Because Xiang Hao had been pestering Xiang Yu about money the whole time, he had missed his parents discussing Reverend Mother Liu at the dinner table and naturally remained unaware of their plans for the next day.
Turning her attention back to Xiang Yu, Li Meilan resumed her fierce and vicious demeanor, shouting, "Wretched girl, do you need to pee or not?"
Filled with hatred, Xiang Yu replied coldly, "No. As soon as I came back, I was put to work, didn't get a single bite of food or a drop of water, and then got severely beaten. There's nothing in me."
Li Meilan was so infuriated that her teeth itched. Thinking of the matters scheduled for the following day, she suppressed her anger and pointed at Xiang Yu, "You just wait, wretched girl. Tomorrow you'll be well-behaved."
Xiang Yu desperately wanted to retort with a few more barbs, but she was worried about complicating matters and failing to escape later.
Choosing to ignore her, she closed her eyes.
Seeing this, Li Meilan cursed as she walked out, turning off the light before she left, plunging the room into pitch darkness.
Just as Xiang Yu had severed the nylon rope on her hands, Xiang Hao sneaked back in under the pretext of needing to pee, "Xiang Yu..."
Seeing Xiang Yu's unfriendly glare, he immediately changed his tune, "Second Sister, where's the money? Give it to me now, or I'll call Mom and Dad."
Xiang Yu shot him a sharp glare, sat up, and swiftly cut through the nylon rope on the bed as well.
She said in an eerie tone, "If you want the money, come back after Mom and Dad are asleep. Don't worry, I wouldn't dare walk the dark road at night; I have to wait until dawn breaks tomorrow before I can leave."
Xiang Hao thought for a moment and nodded, "Alright then. I'll sneak back later. If you don't give it to me, I'll wake Mom and Dad up and have them tie you back up."
Xiang Yu nodded and waved her hand, signaling him to get lost.
In the dead of night, the snoring of Xiang Fuqiang and Li Meilan gradually grew louder. The house's only clock pointed to eleven o'clock, and Xiang Hao bolted awake with a start.
