Chapter Twelve: Wildly Earning Heartbreak Points
When the two of them reached the door of Qin Jiu and Jiang Nanxing’s private room, they could already hear voices from inside.
Sheng Ting wanted to burst in immediately, but Yao Xinyue held him back.
Yao Xinyue thought it would be even better if they could eavesdrop on something that would make Sheng Ting despise Jiang Nanxing even more.
Coincidentally, Sheng Ting heard his own name mentioned inside, so with a grim expression, he didn’t push the door open.
Qin Jiu’s deep, husky voice said, “Everyone says you’re really into Sheng Ting, always clinging to him.”
Jiang Nanxing’s clipped tone replied, “How could I possibly like a disgusting man like Sheng Ting? Of course, I like President Qin.”
“He’s not even worth a finger of yours, President Qin.”
Qin Jiu teased exaggeratedly, with a playful tone, “Oh? What do you think would happen if President Sheng found out about us?”
Jiang Nanxing put on an affected voice, “Ugh, he’s seen us being more intimate before. What reaction could he possibly have?”
“Just impotent rage, some anger, a few harsh words.”
“Actually, he’s just a coward.”
[Heartbreak level +3, total heartbreak: 53]
Sheng Ting’s face turned livid with fury as he kicked open the door.
Jiang Nanxing and Qin Jiu still kept up their act, playing their roles.
She frowned in dissatisfaction and asked the system, “Waiter, why did it only add three heartbreak points this time?”
The system responded with a small “Ah,” saying, “I don’t know either.”
“Maybe it’s because the previous shocks were too intense, and now there’s some immunity?”
That actually made some sense.
Tsk, well, even mosquito bites count as flesh.
Jiang Nanxing feigned surprise and leaned into Qin Jiu’s arms, “President Sheng… what are you doing here?”
Qin Jiu wrapped an arm around Jiang Nanxing’s waist, looking at Sheng Ting lazily and arrogantly. “Got business?”
Sheng Ting’s face darkened with hatred. “You two, you despicable lovers!”
Qin Jiu chuckled softly, then whispered to Jiang Nanxing, “Looks like you were right after all.”
“But an impotent dog is like this—just barks, can’t bite.”
Sheng Ting was never a calm man, and Qin Jiu’s words completely drove him mad.
His chest heaved violently as he rushed forward, aiming to land two punches on Qin Jiu.
Qin Jiu was ready to counterattack, but Sheng Ting froze in pain the moment he clenched his fist, his face contorted.
Because Qin Jiu’s dislocated hand, caused by Jiang Nanxing, had not yet healed.
Jiang Nanxing laughed aloud, feigning concern, “President Sheng, are you alright?”
Qin Jiu raised an eyebrow skeptically, “President Sheng, have you really stooped to faking injuries now?”
“I didn’t even touch President Sheng.”
Then he suddenly understood, “Could it be a hidden ailment acting up?”
“Do you want me to arrange for someone to take President Sheng to a men’s health clinic?”
Sheng Ting was so provoked that he no longer cared about whether his hand could fight. He charged at Qin Jiu again.
[Heartbreak level +5, total heartbreak: 58]
Qin Jiu held Jiang Nanxing close and easily dodged Sheng Ting’s attack.
But Sheng Ting’s momentum was too strong, and he crashed onto the table, shattering many bowls and plates, looking utterly humiliated.
He was far from that charming, domineering CEO depicted in stories.
But it made sense.
Behind the male lead’s aura, Sheng Ting was just a repulsive, pathetic man.
Yao Xinyue hadn’t expected Sheng Ting to be so... so pitiful.
Her feet instinctively shifted back, but she stopped herself and stepped forward to support him.
Sheng Ting was still furious, brushing off Yao Xinyue’s help, trying to strike at Qin Jiu again.
Unsurprisingly, he missed once more.
Jiang Nanxing mocked deliberately, “Oh my, President Sheng looks like a clown.”
She and Qin Jiu looked down on him as if he were a joke.
Their tone and expression stabbed at Sheng Ting’s pride.
Panting heavily, his eyes bloodshot, he shouted, “You two scoundrels, just wait! I won’t let you off!”
Jiang Nanxing and Qin Jiu laughed together.
[Heartbreak level +5, total heartbreak: 63]
Jiang Nanxing thought Sheng Ting’s mental resilience was really poor.
In the story, Jiang Nanxing had been treated like this by him and Yao Xinyue more than once.
Yao Xinyue helped Sheng Ting out.
Although the heartbreak points were low at first, the final result was satisfying.
Thirteen points of heartbreak in total.
Once they left, the performance was over.
Qin Jiu released Jiang Nanxing and said, “Miss Jiang, this little act we put on came at quite a cost.”
Jiang Nanxing sat back at the table, feeling a bit regretful.
She hadn’t even eaten much of these dishes yet. “What do you mean?”
Qin Jiu noticed her regret and had someone clear the table and bring new dishes. “After humiliating Sheng Ting like this today, he might recklessly retaliate against my company.”
Jiang Nanxing curled her lip, “Since President Qin is willing to play along with me, doesn’t that mean you’re looking forward to it as well?”
Qin Jiu smiled ambiguously. “Indeed, when people aren’t calm, their intelligence drops and their defenses lower.”
Jiang Nanxing picked up his cue, “They’re easy to trap, right?”
Qin Jiu snapped his fingers, wearing a smile of complete control. “Correct.”
One had to admit, Qin Jiu was truly decisive.
She had thought his business moves would start only when she reported Sheng Ting.
But unexpectedly, he was already making his move.
Jiang Nanxing leaned back leisurely in her chair. “I don’t understand much about business.”
“But I’ll help make sure he looks after his head but neglects his tail.”
Qin Jiu reached for a wine glass. “Hope we can cooperate smoothly.”
Jiang Nanxing raised her glass and clinked it with his.
Now that Qin Jiu had taken action, Jiang Nanxing didn’t wait any longer.
She returned to Sheng Ting’s company.
After all, she was still Sheng Ting’s personal secretary.
Though in reality, at the company, everyone bullied her.
No choice—being the heroine in a tragic romance meant this was her fate.
So miserable, even passing dogs might snap at her.
When she arrived, some employees were whispering and pointing fingers at her.
They had heard rumors from the banquet and were mocking her with slurs.
Jiang Nanxing used to be meek and silently endured it.
So these people always whispered loudly right in front of her.
She recorded everything.
After quickly gathering some proof that she was indeed Sheng Ting’s secretary, she boldly confronted them.
Snatching the coffee cups from their hands, she figuratively washed their faces, “Slander and defamation are crimes.”
At first, a few of them sneered aggressively, demanding Jiang Nanxing apologize.
But when she played the recordings and pressed the numbers "1-1-0" on her phone, they realized she was serious.
One colleague hurriedly grabbed Jiang Nanxing’s hand, forcing a weak smile. “We’re all colleagues. Is it really necessary to make this so uncomfortable?”
Jiang Nanxing smiled sweetly and retorted, “Hasn’t our relationship always been pretty uncomfortable?”
The atmosphere turned awkward.
Some colleagues stood their ground defiantly. “Call the police then! Haven’t you done those things before? We’re just telling the truth, not slandering.”
Jiang Nanxing played another recording from that night at the banquet—Sheng Ting denying he ever touched her.
She grinned bitterly. “Truthful, huh?”
